  1. This brought a smile to my face....
  2. Glad to see the back of 2014,things can only improve! In 2014 i abandoned one project boat and acquired another lesser one, less length, less old and a lot less work! 2015 will bring a lot more sailing and hopefully a lot less boat maintenance. The remains of winter and the spring will be spent getting the boat ready for a long-planned trip up the coast from Essex to the Broads for an extended water based 'glamping' holiday( could hardly be anything else on a Leisure17!),probably 3 or 4 weeks. Hopefully I'll some other forum members on my trip and put faces to names! Happy New Year to you all
  3. Thanks,i thought that would be the case but always worth checking! While on the subject of mud weighting, what would be an appropriate size of mud weight for a 17' sailing boat? Thanks again
  4. Hi all Am currently getting my Leisure17 ready for the spring and hopefully a week or six on the Broads in the summer. Am currently( no pun intended!) sorting the electrics and wondered if an anchor(all-round white) light is required when mud weighting/wild mooring? I have all the other navigation lights in the highly unlikely event of wishing to cruise at night. Thanks
  5. As Noddy used to sing/shout/holler 'It's CHRISTMAS!!!!' have a good 'un you lot and let's all make a New Years resolution to get out on the(any!) water more often.
  6. Yeah, and the shops are full of Christmas goodies already!
  7. Well done,Gracie, you did(IMHO) the right thing. It can/could be any of us in that situation with the wrong circumstances in our lives. Although I'd have bought rum not wine. Happy Christmas to you all
  8. Hi. If,like me,you occasionally creep above(or blatantly ignore) speed limits, this site will tell you of any tickets coming your way. www.speedcheck.co.uk Happy Christmas.
  9. His last post he was off to hospital,is he OK? Never met the man but he's a real character and his 'boot yard tales' never fail to raise a smile. Hope all is well.
  10. My late father in law would paint around furniture rather than move it. But even worse, carpet would also be cut around the same furniture. Nothing was ever done to a good standard, and always at the lowest price. His kitchen had 7 different styles and sizes of wall tiles because he would buy end of lines cheap and never enough to do the whole job.
  11. Part of the reason for pubs going out of business is the cheap alcohol from the supermarkets.quite ironic really....
  12. 'Promised' not in the strictly literal sense but the forthcoming fortnights rotas were given, including the overtime for those who wanted it.There is no premium for overtime. Then at the drop of a hat,all the rotas were changed, cancelling all overtime.
  13. Call me boring/sad/a creature of habit etc but I have never had a holiday anywhere other than Norfolk.I love the place!
  14. And how exactly does wasting time and money training temps equate to good business when you have experienced fully trained staff available?
  15. On the day Morrison's supermarket gave the first airing of their Christmas advert (prime time, middle of corrie, complete with Ant and Dec) they slashed all promised overtime for their staff. Locally at least, anyway, don't know about nationally. This after taking on a batch of temps(8 hours a week) for shifts existing staff were prepared to cover. Glad i don't work for them!
  16. As previously posted,i think on reflection we may possibly be seeing a cause for concern where none exists. However,a little more info won't go amiss. There are locking stair gates, top and bottom and a working smoke alarm. The lock is a barrel bolt,as used on toilet doors. The child is toilet trained but does need help with the paperwork! The reason for the lock is to prevent him disturbing other family members(inc mum and dad) in the night. Our concerns were based on the possibility of the child being unwell/getting distressed in the night and being unable to summon help/comfort. I apologise to all those that feel i should not have posted this on this particular forum,i was under the impression 'the lounge' was anything goes. Thanks
  17. Help! I've locked my grubby fenders in my stern locker and mislaid the key,how can i get them out to clean them? Lol
  18. Thanks for all your opinions/advice. Now realise perhaps we are seeing a problem where none exists. Bit sensitive when it comes to child abuse, I had the classic 'wicked stepmother' so have first hand experience! And no,I've not got a 'downer' on step-parents,I'm one myself.
  19. So what will your reaction be this evening when i have every confidence that our suspicions will be confirmed?
  20. Are you really condoning locking up a 4 year old? Nice.
  21. My wife and i have(as yet unconfirmed) suspicions that a friend has fitted a lock to the outside of her 4 year old son's bedroom door, apparently because he wakes in the night. We are not happy and very concerned about this. If our suspicions are proved correct, what should we do? Is it illegal? should we get social services involved? In all other respects, the child is happy, healthy, well fed and clothed. Advice/opinions welcome Thanks
