  1. What's the worst beer you've ever had in Norfolk ? For me of a certain age it had to be Norwich Bitter. This stuff was in a class of its own when it came to vileness.( is that a proper word ? ) But I wonder if any pub down there sells Tetley bitter ? fortunately I've not seen one. A worthy successor to Norwich bitter if there ever was one. yuk It seems to be popular in Yorkshire for some reason, maybe its cheap..
  2. This is all part of the pleasure of getting older, remembering all the things that have gone now. Things like polio, diptheria, rickets, Hitler etc.etc.
  3. Now that sums it up !!!!!
  4. What's your best scenic view on the Broads ? For me its a summer sunrise moored at Ranworth Staithe. (If you can get moored !). Standing outside the boat looking over a misty, still and quiet Malthouse Broad with the missus and a steaming cup of hot coffee.Nobody about, all the boats lined up and silent, dripping with dew, curtains drawn. Paradise or what !! wish I was there now but Septembers hols will come soon enough.
  5. We have hired a number of Royalls craft over the years, all were immaculate, you were always made to feel so welcome as well. A better boatyard I have yet to find. Yes, the sad end of an era.
  6. I thought the programme was a bit superficial too. I suppose that I was really hoping for an aerial tour of the Norfolk Broads, to see all the places I've visited over the years and some I haven't, but alas, it wasn't to be. I wish someone would could come up with one.
  7. Did anybody actually watch Macey & Co. apart from Macey and Hamidi? Was it even worse than I suspected ? Reminds me, I need to buy some more Huks and a few disgorgas for the Missus.
  8. Do you mean that the filming would just consist of an on-going selfie ?
  9. For all you Anglers out there, the Fish off ( turn off) returns on Thursday on BBC4. Hosted by professional loudmouth, self styled expert angler and general irritant Dean Macey and co-hosted by big-fish bore Ali Hamidi, Guaranteed to be full of high fives, babbling about P.B.'s, gurning, shouting and clomping about, no sane wildlife for miles, there will be no resemblance whatsoever to a quiet misty morning casting a line into a reedy swim on the Bure and of course there will be competition between various "celebraties" that nobody has heard of. I don't like to appear a moaner all the time but I really loved A passion for Angling with Chris Yates and the Compleat Angler with Geoffery Palmer and Ray Borass, Lovely stuff. This dross isn't fishing.

The carp dudes have also made some amazing changes to English grammar ! what exactly is chod for heavens sake ? have a look at Korda stuff, they can supply Klips, Rig bitz, Toolz, Extendas, Pullas, Strippas, Krimps and a Grinda that looks like an oversized cannabis grinder. I'll pass on that one. Fantastic. No wonder kids can't spell.

Thats great ! You are the queen of carp fishing ! If you're ecstatic with a 14 pounder that's what its all about I watched Gryff Ryffe Jones On Rivers today, a guy fished for one particular carp for 300 nights out of 365 last year and caught a total of 3 fish. But not the one he wanted. Presumably it was the biggest in the lake. Shame really.

    Fishing

I think that the close season on rivers should be retained for the sake of ALL the wildlife, and can't understand why canals are exempt. However the thought of spending the close season fishing for carp while sleeping in a tent behind a battery of buzzers, with everything covered in camo fills me with horror ! on the odd occasion when I fish for carp its with a fly rod or float tackle. Too many anglers come in to fishing with no watercraft skills and think all you need is a bolt rig, boilie and buzzer to succeed. The present carp culture is appalling to me, if ever there was a branch of angling that tries to solve problems when none exist its carping ! Rig of the month and the big chuck to the other side of the pond, not my scene, man. Still, the upside is it keeps them off the rivers so more room for me !

Unfortunately I've seen boats at this time of year with rods on the roof all too frequently.
  15. Got to be the Horning Ferry for me. We've been coming regularly down to the Broads now for 46 years and the great memories when we visit the Ferry keep flooding back, Its very different inside since the 70's, more's the pity, but its still a great place. When we went last year the bar staff were really nice, the service impeccable and the food was lovely. Its great sitting outside in the sun on the first Saturday with a pint of Woodfordes, waiting to either get on the boat or in the cottage !
  16. Thats an amazing fish ! Shows the Broads can still come up with goods. I totally agree that locations should be kept quiet as well.
  17. Aren't there any Pubs in Norfolk these days ?
  18. I worked in the NHS for 38 years ( no, not a Porter that's what people always ask ). I was led to understand that the tax income derived from smoking was something like 10 times what's actually spent on treating smoking related diseases, and another thing, why are E cigarettes banned from most pubs ? its only water vapour.
  19. Very well said ! Looks like its a resounding NO to creating a virtual experience. Things are fine as they are.
  20. No good to me mate ! Wouldn't have a "smart" phone as a gift. Never had an app and probably never will. I'd have to join the ranks of the living dead who walk about stroking their phones for hours on end. No facebook or twitter either for Troutman, he don't tweet . Don't like self promotion. These sort of technological ideas would ruin the Broads experience for me.
  21. Hear hear ! use it every time, never any traffic at half seven in the morning. Stress free !
  22. Ha Ha and maybe after eights to follow ? Seriously though I think you're right about the bait thats chucked in after the end of the days fishing.Wish I'd thought of trying one of those maggot rings that I used to use on the boring old carp fishing days, you can get a dozen maggots on one of those and use a trace as well ! too late was the cry, sob sob. Only a year to go before I get back, wish I was rich.. Back to the jolly Louth canal. Regards stefan
  23. Are Norfolk Pike becoming a bit particular over their meals ? The first three days of our holiday were spent trying unsuccesfully to catch pike at Wroxham with a variety of plugs, spoons, drop shotting, static dead baits, wobbled dead baits, trolling, fishing from the bank, from a rowboat, various times of the day, etc. etc. We won't use live baits but don't condemn those that do.After three days of blanking misery we decided to get the coarse gear out and give up Piking as a bad job. By the end of the week we had around 14 takes from Pike taking single or double maggot on 16 hooks tied to 3lb line ! Result - more misery as one by one they bit through the line, sometimes after 10 or 15 minutes playing them.I though I managed to land one of 11lbs 15ozs hooked in the scissors.Well chuffed with that . It got so frustrating we even tied size 12 hooks baited with maggots on to wire traces, but these Pike were too crafty for that, not a bite. Might try maggots cooked three ways with a cranberry jous next year....................
