  1. Tide is very low this morning Good to meet up with Alan last night Now it's time for home
  2. We are the ones with the big furry friends! πŸ•πŸΆπŸΎ
  3. This morning travelled from our mooring down to Swancraft/Shadow Boats to refuel, pump out and ensure the water tanks were topped up. Huge thanks to Paul at Swancraft who was so helpful and we had a good chat, whilst he got on with the tasks required. If anybody is in the area and wants to use their visitor moorings of which he has a couple, he only charges Β£10 for overnighters and he has water, electric hookups, pump out facilities and fuel. First time I had ever navigated down that channel towards Swancraft and Silverline and what a lovely run it is with some wonderful moorings and boats on either side. Next job some lunch and then the task of packing, cleaning and generally getting ready for departure back to the sunny North West of England............(Well OK its probably pouring down!!) Tonight we are off to the Yare for some wholesome grub and a couple of pints before settling down for the night in readiness for the long drive home
  4. Not great in our opinion We have used Ali Spice at Coltishall many times and has always been superb. Acle Spice? It was Ok, but.... Julie had Chicken Bhuna with Pilau rice and the chicken was quite tough, albeit the sauce was nice, a little hot for her tastes I had chicken Madras and again I thought the chicken, which was in chunks was quite tough, the sauce was Ok, but nothing special We ordered poppadoms with Mango chutney and what we expected was spiced onions as starter The poppadoms were fine, the chutney watery and the onions...well I have chopped onions finer in a stew... and no, they didn't come with any spice So for us.. Acle Spice won't be used again, but we can't wait to try Ali Spice at Coltishall as they have always been first class for us
  5. So last night we had a choice for our evening meal Bridge Inn, Acle Fur and Feather, Woodbastwick Maltsters, Ranworth Swan, Horning We ummed and arred................. then drove to the Ferry House, Surlingham, because this is fast becoming our favourite pub on the broads. So welcoming, so dog friendly and is very big dog friendly, nothing is too much trouble for them, they do a fantastic breakfast and Sunday roast, so why not. We still love the many other venues but the Ferry House is definitely top of our list Julie had Lamb Shank and I had Beef and Ale pie and both of us loved our choice Today we had a drive to Roys of Wroxham and then went and parked at the village hall in Horning and had the dogs out on a Horning circular walk which lasted about an hour Back to the boat and tonight we are going to order and Acle Spice Indian Curry to be delivered which we will eat on board The weather was a little grim this morning, and it is pretty cold out, especially when the sun drops behind a cloud, but its fine when wrapped up and when the sub comes out it is glorious this time of year. We have certainly enjoyed our week to date.
  6. Looks like Reedham Ferry will be back on Friday
  7. I think we made a good call ..... Back on our home mooring and we have just been hit by a torrential hail storm!
  8. Thanks Alan, we only called in because our walk ended up near there It was fine, staff great, clientele welcoming and dog friendly...just a little cold We have been in the White Horse before and enjoyed it and we haven't been in the Swan as didn't know if it was dog friendly, but don't know the Queen's?
  9. Called in the King's Head at Loddon last night after taking the dogs on a good walk around Pye's Mill. The pub was very cold as the central heating wasn't on and they struggled to light the fire, albeit Roxy and Yogi didn't appear to mind We then had a Lims Chippy tea which was excellent as we ordered 2 standard size cod, portion of chips and a portion of peas which was as ample Left Loddon this morning and now having lunch at Langley dyke It's dry today, but definitely colder as the air has a real chill about it today Snow is forecast tomorrow, so heading back to base today to get tucked up on our home mooring I have attached some pictures taken in the King's Head, whilst travelling down the Chet and at our lunch time mooring at Langley Dyke
  10. Lovely morning on the river as we travelled from Rockland Staithe to Reedham village to give the dogs a good walk and visit the store before making our way down the Chet to Loddon where we are now moored for the next 24 hours We considered staying at Reedham, but the quay was so muddy as the tide had obviously recently gone over the quay and as there was still 3 hours to high tide and the water was lapping the top of the quay, we thought we would head to Loddon instead We also called at the public toilets behind the Ship public house at Reedham village, thinking they would be open, but there is a sign on the doors stating that they are only open at weekends in the winter months. Update from Dad is he has been diagnosed with an infection which requires him to be catheterised for 2 weeks whilst he is on a course of medication, so although the procedure was uncomfortable, he now is more comfortable and is feeling much better.
  11. Roxy and Yogi appear pretty relaxed in the New Inn
  12. At the New Inn Rockland St Mary tonight Dad got a train home today so it's just Julie and I with Roxy and Yogi Dad enjoyed the time on Moonlight Shadow, but he appears to have a "water infection" as been visiting the loo every 20 minutes and in some discomfort for the last 48 hours day and night!! Offered to take him to a local walk in centre, but he would rather go see his own GP
  13. Wonderful meal at the Ferry House Fred, Julie and I had Sunday roast with a mix of beef and pork, Lisa had the roast with chicken and dad had the lamb shank. All reported that the food was first class and highly recommended Roxy, Yogi and Alfie (2 Newfies and their shitzu mate) got lots of attention from the staff and other customers Back on Moonlight Shadow now and the wind has gone, the river is calm and we are extremely relaxed!
  14. The wind has dropped slightly and the sun is now out Meeting friends at the Ferry House, Surlingham for Sunday lunch This is our mooring for the evening and even though the signs state Stern on mooring only, we were kindly told we could side on due to the winds which are still quite strong (gusts of 45mph) but are due to slacken during the afternoon and evening
  15. Brooms marina has a visitor this morning
  16. First day complete and now on Moonlight Shadow chilling with the dogs, a glass of wine and watching nonsense Saturday TV as we chat Picked my dad up at 7am and by 9.30 we were at Ivy's Farm having breakfast. My dad and I had a small breakfast whilst Julie went for jam on toast. We arrived at Brooms around midday and by 1pm we had loaded the boat We then went for a drive, stopping at Latham's, Potter Heigham, Tesco at Stalham to fill the car and we picked up some brochures from Richardsons and Herbert Woods as Dad loves to research the boats. We got back to Moonlight Shadow around 4pm and after taking the dogs for a walk we went to the Yare for a few drinks and food We loved it, as Roxy and Yogi were welcomed, the food was wholesome and the staff and customers first class We then walked back to our moorings to settle down for the evening
  17. Wonderful topic but do difficult to choose due to the many different reasons why a mooring is good, but here goes Coltishall as I just love the run up there Salhouse as the place is idyllic Cockshoot is s wonderful spot which is quiet but close to so much Ludham Bridge due to the walks and area Neastished as this part of the broads is just stunning and the White horse brilliant Dilham..small, but worth it! Sutton Staithe as the green and pub is a must visit Acle as the Bridge Inn, Pedro's and the walks are well worth a visit Oulton Broad as the park is exceptional and the racing a great spectacle Ferry House, Surlingham as it's one of the very best Loddon, beautiful surroundings and village Beccles, great Suffolk Town
  18. Thanks Helen Really looking forward to the week First time taking my dad and I have no doubt he will love it
  19. Roxy is getting in the mood for Moonlight Shadow tomorrow!! πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ™ˆ
  20. Reading this thread really does get me down. I love the broads, the boats, the people, the area and most importantly those who wish to discuss or post photos or videos I subscribe to a number of forums, Facebook groups, websites and YouTube channels run by Captains, Admirals and Whitworths! I do it because it keeps me close to the place I love. I used to post regularly to what some call "the other forum" but stopped because it became nothing more than a site full of the same people bickering and regurgitating the same arguments until people sided with them or turned off. I turned off myself and stayed away from forums dropping into this one to read up on items of interest, and more recently dipping my toe in to add the odd comment again, but I now see this also going the same way with bickering being the norm and turning the likes of me away from what should be a site full of interesting articles, adventures and opinion. I therefore welcome moderators, administrators or whoever trying to take the forum back to some semblance of order before it's too late and it becomes a forum only used by a small group of members bickering with each other, oblivious to the world around them. This is my final comment on this particular thread and look forward to reading and adding value to many more threads in the future.
  21. Thanks for the update, which I personally don't think it was required, but understand why you felt it necessary in this scrutinised world we now live in.
  22. Get it sorted before we take her out.... πŸ˜‰ Please! πŸ™πŸ™
  23. I was going to say, you will have to move up to make room for Calypso... But looking at the pictures she may already be there. πŸ˜‰
