  1. My apologies, I am not aware of this being discussed previously. So , if anyone can inform me, do they/ have they / can they hand out a fine for speeding on the river? of course I would take bad to being on holiday and being fined for going a couple of miles over the limit between for example Stracey arms and Yarmouth. I have however seen idiots ( as I'm sure we all have) who would benefit from a large deterrent.
  2. So is their a history of fines being handed out ?
  3. What exactly is the protocol should a hirer for example , be caught speeding? are they looking for aggressive speeding past moored craft , or is it tucked away somewhere as per our boys in blue? Considering one can never be sure what speed you are doing in a boat ( you only have revs for a guide) there surely must be a fair bit of leniency .
  4. Thanks for the kind words folk. Glad you have enjoyed it.
  5. Well folks, it's a long wait until July so l penned a wee poem of what the broads means to me!! im not sure what purpose it is meant to serve!! But thought I would share it anyway with like minded broads obsessed creatures. so, here goes. Don't worry I have a thick skin if you think it's a load o mince The clinking of sailies , and ducks in the morning The calmness of Horsey, the hustle in Horning The swans with their cygnets, so regal and proud Fishing at sunrise, the silence is loud Getting your boat legs, and feeling unsteady The joy when the boatyard says your boat is ready The long winding Ant, which takes you to Dilham The big puddle Barton, then sutton and Stalham Go see Roy in Wroxham, where the young hire a day boat With crew and beer cargo just how do they still float The racing at Oulton is well worth a shout The wee bridge at Ludham can catch many out The little gap at potter, which makes things hard to reach Kiss me quick hats and candy floss ,at the pleasure beach The memories flood back smelling diesel on water Hearing a cuckoo and seeing an otter Playing cards on a nighttime with wife son and daughter Stay within the posts, on the Breydon water Sail into Norwich , it's cool and it's trendy The last bit to Loddon , is narrow and bendy Cruising past a pub is just against the rules Tie up for a pint and a few games of pool I'm sure you have gathered , I do love the broads These foreign beach holidays are just full of frauds The people and places are close to my heart So roll on July, cause that's when I start!,
  6. This place has a first class games room. Pool tables , dartboards, tv and juke box. Good food and drink , what's not to like ! Mooring can be sparse , but I've always squeezed in somewhere.
  7. Your right there. So, to get it back on, if it gets a dartboard or pool table I will check it out for grub and beer when I'm back in July, so keep me informed all you lucky broadapudlians
  8. In simple terms, an A game would be against Man Utd and the likes . a D game could be against a lower league team in the cup etc. B & C on a sliding scale. It's all about demand, a bit like high season , low season.
  9. My iPad doing the same. HW camera seems fine though.
  10. from ibiza to the Norfolk broads. virtual coconut heading your way. i didn't say it was difficult or exciting
  11. He maybe did. But it's not the answer I was looking for.
  12. And what is his connection with the broads? im surprised nobody has mentioned it yet. and no googling
  13. O wad some power the giftie gie us to see ourself as others see us. never a truer word written.
  14. Each to their own of course, and it would be a very dull world if we all liked the same thing. But a couple of games of darts or and pool before and after a bit lunch or dinner is just dandy. It also helps the mix of the pub I think. Brings others together where otherwise they would unlikely crack up a conversation. And after being cooped up all day with Mrs and miss wonderwall, myself and the lad quite enjoy a distraction . The last thing the broads need is another empty pub. Although it must be hard in the winter months to say the least. I always do my best to boost their funds during my holiday. All from the goodness of my heart of course
  15. I hear on the great tinternet that this pubs owners are moving on. I've not visited this pub for a few years and it was on my visit list this year . Does anyone know if it is to carry on as a public house and my main question really!! Is does it have a games room , either to darts or pool? thanks folks
  16. It's not hard I agree. But humans do make mistakes. Maybe not you, but it does and will happen. i only asked in the scenario if you got your timings wrong. 10days is not a long a time to cram all you want to do in a broads holiday, and it is possible for mere humans to not be perfect I was wrong once☹️
  17. Hello folks, it's me again. This cold weather is stirring my summer broads need a fix mentality !! The family are coming round!!! Just checked the tides for early July and was just wondering about the following , all advice is greatly appreciated. So, my question is, if one is approaching Yarmouth from the North , with the tide and you want to moor up at Yarmouth where do you turn, so as to moor against the tide ? Especially if you could not get under the bridge? i appreciate it is not a scenario you should really be putting yourself in, and would like to think I would time it so I'm not in such a position but let's say I underestimated the height of the water . Do you attempt to moor with the tide or go for the turn , which if my memory serves me correctly it's a part of the river frought with danger I.e. Strong current , not very wide and a few obstacles around. It must happen quite regular with inexperienced pilots , what's the drill? folks, see you in July!!!!!!!
  18. Some of they Norfolk ales got me out my skull
  19. Beccles pub crawl there really isn't anywhere not worth visiting. Take your time and enjoy the lot
  20. I agree that broads cruising is appealing for the slow pace at which you take things. Never being in a rush is the beauty. But it's easy to let your guard down occasionally , say when you have tide and wind against you and you change course and river you can have both pushing you along and before you know it you are unaware you have doubled your speed. Not everyone is concentrating at all times on holiday, and it's even been known for a whisky, wine or ale to cloud your concentration for a bit! The latter does not apply to me of course
  21. I am either missing something here, or the whole case has holes in it. Surely to be clocked by a device for speeding the said device must have been through a calibration test that day with a certificate of proof? a mobile phone does not surely fall into that category? speeding on the broads is a bug bear for anyone who has a passion for the place, but it's not always obvious to know what speed you are travelling at. The rev counter is only a guide as I am sure you are all aware. fair enough, if folk are going double the speed limit and throwing common sense out with the tide then a fine is in order, and if you have been warned a couple of times then you have no complaint. But to be fined for a small break in the rules is totally unacceptable and certainly not a selling point for the broads. I'm sure we have all been in the position where for one reason or another we need to get to our destination sharpish and a little lean on the throttle is required.. going a bit fast, and reckless speeding are surely two different things ?
  22. I think the boat looks ok I would love to own it. ive got an ugly boat it sits on my shoulders
  23. That silence and calmness on a broads morning. What's all that about? All you can hear is the odd duck or cuckoo. The flop of a jumping fish and the silent flight of a heron going for breakfast. it drives me mad. And all that waving , smiling and general happiness. its just not normal
  24. It's been two months since I have been back from the absolutely rubbish broads. All that beauty, fresh air, chill time, sounds , smells , pubs with beer food pool and darts. Please tell,me in this thread , how busy , cold, wet and full of undesirables it is so that I don't crave it every day thanks in advance. that Salhouse broad should just be filled in with gravel, it's such a dump Don't you all agree ? And beccles is just slum with river isn't it ? totallysad.com
