    Loddon Staithe

No need to be sorry Speedy, my thinking is not "logical" You "shouldn't" pay more to moor at a staithe with electric posts BUT a case could be made for introducing a charge. Electric posts are few and popular, I'll leave it there.

    Loddon Staithe

Just my point of view.... I went to Loddon Staithe once and am in no rush to go back there. Now if they introduced a charge to moor there I might think about going there again. In fact I think a case could be made for making a charge at all BA moorings with electric posts. In my mind I like to think of it as forward thinking, you can make of it what you will.
  3. Indeed they are, as are Braintree Town, but WHU are Irons (plural) How far ahead or our time were we... The "I" rons.
  4. It's not the table that makes me unhappy it's that soulless athletics stadium, that's why I gave it up. I used to watch Billy Bonds when he played, always gave everything. Nice gesture to name a stand after him for sure.
  5. Glad you enjoyed it. You are right to recommend it. Going to a game as an away fan is so different, you are among a few, but those few all have a passion for their club and usually make themselves heard, when you win it's even better.
  6. I've been there many times as a West ham fan and if there is going to be any trouble it's when we visit. Believe it or not, when travelling by train it's one of the safest grounds to visit. A dedicated station, straight off the train and into the away end. No mixing at all with the home fans. Good atmosphere there, hope you enjoy it.
  7. This is an example of how the car industry have brainwashed people. Given that myself, my wife , my daughters, their partners, my sisters, etc and the many many people I have to queue behind when I fill up at the supermarket, all use supermarket fuel without any problem why should an additive be used? Rhetorical, no need to answer.
  8. and then said So we do agree??? no need to read anything...common sense
  9. Robin, you have over the past years had me glued to your blogs, you have inspired me to do things I never thought possible and have shared unselfishly information which has enhanced our holidays on the broads. Your passion for boating and the broads passed on for all to share is so appreciated. It would appear that this enthusiasm is now spilling over into cars, so now I'm going to repay you with my advice and experience in this area. Now, I know I struggle to get across the thoughts I'm thinking, but cars are a tool, everyone has one, they get us from A to B, we do not drive on loose gravel up mountain passes in sub zero temperatures, nor do we drive through muddy rivers in the outback and then go surfing. The car industry would like us to think we do. The car industry want your money and you see more than willing to hand it over, just slow down a bit. I throw my hands up in the air sometimes, it's just a car and I would bet good money you couldn't tell the difference between fuels or tyres and even if you could, where were you going today? London to Norwich, Mavis did that in her 2003 Ford Ka, it took her 10 mins longer than you, and she has saved a couple of Ks in her back pocket. I think / guess what I'm saying is cars are a waste of money, or rather, people waste money on cars.
  10. Agree V 100% All that is needed on the broads is common sense and common courtesy. No need at all to read and understand regs, byelaws etc.. It takes two to have a collision, if one has CS or CC then no collision. IMO of course.
  11. Lovely SR. 100 is the new 40

    Rats

Nothing to do with rats, but we did have an infestation once which probably cost us close to the OPs losses. We had a cat, not the healthiest of specimens at the best of times, but we went through a period of constantly taking her to the vets with some kind of stomach upset. The insurance was useless as they only pay out once per condition, so every time we picked up the tab. Then by accident we found the problem. That is a form of flour mite that had found it's way into the cats dried biscuit cupboard and causing the problem. These things are so small, you could fit 4 onto a grain of salt. I got the picture by getting them caught on sellotape and using a microscope from work to display onto a PC. You don't know you've got them, even if they were all over your kitchen worktops, wipe your hand across and you'd just think it was dusty. They are a nightmare to get rid of. Sleep well everyone.
  13. Their names all start "Swan" Swan Reflection, Swan Roamer, Swan Radiance, Swan Rapture, etc.
  14. I hear this said a lot. My Dad said it to me when I just learnt to drive as did my instructor. A possible problem though, and a serious one in regards to my Dad is that in taking that view you are subconsciously elevating yourself and believing you are better at driving than everyone else. That's not what the statement is meant to convey. Dad drove a lot, also had a spell on artics, but over the years his driving got worse, he had developed such a superiority complex that he just couldn't see when he was being the idiot, as such his driving skills went down. Not sure my message means anything to all the old drivers on this forum.....(tin hat time).... but I say, treat everyone like idiots, it'll keep you safe, but never forget that someone else is treating you as an idiot, because you are one, even though you can't see it.
  15. Welcome to the forum Dave. Nice to hear you enjoyed last year and have booked some more. Regarding you and Mrs Dave getting away together, we once looked at hiring Brinks Sonnet but ruled it out as it doesn't have a proper oven, don't know if you were aware of that or if it's important to you. IMO and I'm sure others will agree, the ex Swancraft boats from Richardsons are lovely for two and have a bow thruster too, and it'll be another holiday towards a discount.
  16. I had no idea that horn signals are used to communicate. We must have confused the hell out of some people in the summer when my Grandson found the horn button and what it did.
  17. A wise attitude. As I said elsewhere, I believe that 75% of Broads boats leak, chasing the leak is part of the fun, curing the leak is, well, pretty satisfying to put It mildly.
  18. Brilliant and fantastically written. I got to the end of the first paragraph, first post and was welling up. So much of what you write strikes a chord, as I'm pretty sure it does with others. My Dad would takes us to Cornwall, but the feelings were the same. Looking forward to reading more. Thanks
  19. I bet her hand didn't move from her chin and she walked away mumbling "don't patronise me, just get on Ebay and buy one"
