  1. We've had a couple of meals at the Rising Sun in recent months, once on Thunder and more recently when taking Mum home to Holt, both have been really excellent.
  2. Well the survey was postponed until the lift was available yesterday. When I got there Ian (the surveyor) had already had a good poke about and found a few small problems and then it was time for the river trial. Then the lift. We left Ian poking around at the hull and now I'm biting my fingernails waiting for the result :) Here's a small taster. PS I've fallen in love with the engines, old, over-engineered and a bit agricultural. Just like me! VID_20190621_112222.mp4

  4. Survey booked for Thursday 20th :) Sent from the Norfolk Broads Network mobile app
  5. Well this one was planned for a while, Freya was a bit of an accident, I only stopped for a pint :)
  6. Thanks for that Malcolm :)
  7. Well I've put an offer in on our 'forever'* boat, subject to survey etc. Anyone recommend a surveyor? *not literally forever, just a long time :)
  8. Time to start a new thread I think. Sent from the Norfolk Broads Network mobile app
  9. This is why I need help Malcolm lol Sent from the Norfolk Broads Network mobile app
  10. You are a gentleman Chris, I am on Moonlight Shadow at Brundall at the moment but I'm on Thunder (Horning) for a week from the 15th. I will probably go and collect the mast later that week. Our neighbour at Brundall had also offered to help so there would be three of us. Would the weekend of the 22nd be ok for you? Steve Sent from the Norfolk Broads Network mobile app
  11. I'm rather hoping that when I have picked the mast and fittings up some kind person (that knows what they are doing) will come and give me a hand. This will of course involve a nice lunch or dinner in the New Inn :) Sent from the Norfolk Broads Network mobile app
  12. Hah. First I need to get all the rigging fitted right :) Sent from the Norfolk Broads Network mobile app
  13. Mooring all sorted now thanks to Jason and Clive at Richardsons, Horning. Sent from the Norfolk Broads Network mobile app
  14. I have the rags and the stick is awaiting collection from Brundall :) I blame Debs, I'm working In Norwich as I said earlier and I'm going to use this as a floating bed, albeit a very cosy one. It needs a bit of TLC but the outboard is as sweet as a nut and I can see it staying as a toy after we get our proper boat. Yes it is the one that was outside the Nelson. All I need is a mooring with a shower block and electricity and I will be sorted for now. I've slept in worse places, it is clean and dry and has the basics but getting her back to a nice shiny, sailing condition will be fun and keep me out of trouble. I just need to remember how to sail. I'm hoping it's one of those things you don't forget, like riding a bike, but the last time was 40 odd years ago. We are moored at Acle at the moment, in a couple of hours I will find out if I have a mooring at Horning. Worst case I will have to find somewhere else for her but I always travel hopefully :) Ps Sue, we are selling our share in Thunder and our two week share in Shadow but keeping the full share we bought off you. Chris has been bitten by the bug and he will be using that more :) Sent from the Norfolk Broads Network mobile app
  15. Bu66er me I bought a boat lol Not he one we are going to live on but just a project. Although I will be kipping on it while I'm working in Norwich. It's got a sink and a toilet, what more could you want? Sent from the Norfolk Broads Network mobile app
  16. Exactly. Even if people dropped the skin on the floor it wouldn't last long. Last time we were aboard we found a black rubbish bag floating just above Wroxham Bridge, pushed it to the side and after we moored I went back to try and retrieve it. A guy was already trying but it split and we had to fish all the stuff out individually. All plastic posh nosh (Waitrose) wrappers :( Sent from the Norfolk Broads Network mobile app
  17. Banning single use plastics would be a good first step. If people were sensible there would be no need but they are not. How lazy is this? Sent from the Norfolk Broads Network mobile app
  18. As part of our quest to buy a boat and live onboard we have taken the first step. I am going to be working in Norwich. I am looking for accommodation in the area for up to six months (realistically until the end of October at least). I am looking for a double room or bedsit to rent, Debs will be coming up for some weekends, until we find and buy the right boat. Ideally it will be a place that is happy for two well behaved little dogs to visit (they won't be there full time and never on their own) If you know of anywhere please let me know :)
  19. One step closer........ As from next week I will be working for an agency in Norwich. Busy in the summer and Nov to Jan with a quiet couple of months until Easter, sounds perfect. I'll stay in Norwich during the week and then either return home at weekends or Debs will come up there if we have boats to look at. It really feels like it is happening now :)
  20. Maybe we need to look at what motivates them to do this in the first place but try as I might I can't think what it is. :( Failing that get medieval on their asses.
  21. We've looked at quite a few boats now (see https://forum.norfolkbroadsnetwork.com/topic/16610-semi-liveaboard) and one question I have is about changing the boats name. Well more than one actually How? By this I mean the procedure, not physically marking the new name on her. When? OK we've paid our money, the boat is ours. We now need to get it from wherever we bought it to our chosen moorings so we need insurance, breakdown cover and to pay the toll. At what point is the name changed? Basically I'm asking for a 'Dummies' guide
  22. I always did. I made a point of it
  23. Hire boater to Ranger: I can't it's raining too hard/ foggy etc. i.e lawful excuse
  24. Is it in their remit though, or would it be Broadsbeat's job?
