  1. Mooring stern on isn't an option for me ..... My Wavey Rider Wanderer only has access from mid -ships ( see pics )
  2. It's a real shame to see these smaller yards closing down , but I suppose you can't afford to run them if you're not making money ...... And how do you compete with the bigger yards
  3. It was a shame to see Alphacraft closing down . The marina was in a perfect spot , had friendly helpful staff , and they hired out some lovely boats ... We hired from them Tornado and Firefly , and they also used to let a house on Oulton Broad , called " Broadbank " , which we also rented from them ..... Going to be missed by quite a few people

    Tolls

I was lucky in that , when I bought my boat , she was already tolled
  5. Looks like car then John .....As I'm only down for a long weekend , to do a bit of " fettling " ...... Oh well , Loddon is only 5 minutes in the car
  6. OlliverDrake ...... I do believe the clubhouse you refer to , was across the main road , opposite Richardsons . It was on a chalet park ( Broadland, I think ) which also had an outdoor pool . As a Richardson's customer , you could use these facilities , but as to wether or not it was owned by Richo's , I could only hazard a guess at yes
  7. That's more or less exactly what I was looking for JohnK ..... Thank you
  8. HELLO ...... Is anybody there ? Or am I on my own with this question
  9. Jealous much ...... But I'll be back down to " My-Newt " over on the " Dark Side " ( Southern rivers ) in about 10 days time .... Really can't wait
  10. Thanks for all the positive vibes re getting the wife with me later this month ..... Hasn't worked, but what the hell , bit of "Solo" cruising for me then
  11. Just to add to the " Children in pubs " part of this thread ..... Yes I'm OK with well behaved children in pubs / restaurants ...... But , and here's the rub , I was in my local Wetherspoons not long ago , and had just been to the bar to buy my round . Turning away from the bar with a tray full of drinks , I failed to notice the 2 or 3 yr old that was under my feet , stumbled and dropped said tray , along with over £25 worth of drinks ...... This was greeted by rounds of applause , shouts of " Sack the juggler " etc , and a lot of effing and blinding from the child's mother , about the fact that I should watch where I'm going ...... Who had to buy a replacement round ? Me of course , no offer from child's mother or even an apology for the child being allowed to roam free and unsupervised
  12. Evening all , does anybody have any details on the dredging work on the Chet ..... I believe they're due to start very soon , and warnings have been issued , of up to 2 hour delays on the river ? I'm off down to my boat in Langley in a fortnight , and was going to have a little trundle round to Loddon to use showers etc . But , if it's going to take me over 3 hours , with delays , I may have to rethink my plans , or jump in the car
  13. I'll hold my hands up ...... Been guilty myself of not using pilot at Wroxham , but thankfully after gaining 15 years of hire boat experience , without incident
  14. I'm struggling to get my missus to come with me in a fortnight, never mind Christmas ...... " It will be too cold " she cried ....... I only bought my boat 6 weeks ago and want to spend as much time on her as I can , even if it means alone
  15. As a little extra info ...... I'm living in Runcorn ( just outside my original home town of Liverpool ) . I'm married to Cathy , have been for approaching 40 years , and we've been holidaying on the Broads for the last 30 of those years and always wanted a boat of my own , after hiring so many over the years , and when " MY-NEWT " came along at the right price , it was the done deal . Hoping for many more happy years boating. , and I'm back down in a fortnight to do a little " fettling " . So if you're up Cantley way , and you pass Langley Dyke , give me a wave ..... Cheers all DAVE
  16. Thanks for the welcome all
  17. Hi John , I'm moored at Langley along with family and friends " I'mtampingtoo " and " Fly Eagle "
  18. Hi all , just a few words to let you know who I am ..... My names Dave , and I've just bought my first boat , a Wavey Rider " Wanderer " 19ft ..... Her name is ( after renaming) " MY-NEWT " and she's based on the Southern rivers Keep an eye out for me and give a friendly wave if you pass me by ..... Cheers DAVE
