  1. It's good to have a mix. The Yare Inn, The Coldham Hall bar area and Sonia's are all dog friendly I believe. Due to the location and lack of a community around it The Waters Edge needs to be a destination that the people of Norwich want to head out to all year round. Drink drive laws mean a destination pub / restaurant is more likely to work if food, rather than drink focussed and then the food needs to stand out. I read somewhere the other day that Benedicts Norwich, a restaurant I used to go to under the previous ownership quite a lot has just been awarded three AA Rosettes.
  2. The lager lout image is probably more closely related to The Broads than any of the National Parks. More effort should be spent on trying to correct that image and controlling the behaviour of some of those parties than worrying about trying to be something they are not. If the executive want to work in a National Park and help shape the future of a National Park, why don't they move to a proper National Park. Simple really.
  3. Off course any such competition would also help bring the other National Parks to peoples attention and therefore possibly divert peoples interests to other areas of the country, to the disadvantage of The Broads. It's a double edged sword that one. I'm now thinking of a summer break in Snowdonia, which I wasn't until I saw the video.
  4. I think since Lee first moved in there he has found it a lot more difficult to recruit and keep good staff than expected due to the remote location. It has also been quite an uphill struggle in other ways to. Intentions have a habit of changing. There are other issues as well, but not for me to say in open forum or any where really. Hope he finds a buyer soon and moves onto what ever he wants to do. Hopefully this is also not the start of an unsteady future with multiple landlords for what has become not everyone's cup of tea, think more marmite, but still a very good destination restaurant.
  5. I shall also be sad to see Lee go, but I suspect the rewards are why he is selling up. Having spent a lot on the refurbishment and improved the annual turnover tremendously there is probably little scope for further improvement. As the building is om a lease he can either maintain the current level of turnover, but each year as the lease becomes shorter the business would be worth less to sell as a going concern, or sell now when it is probably worth the most. Give it five years or so and with the shorter lease and probably a growing list of items that need replacement / refurbishing / redecorating etc. it is surprising how quickly a flourishing business can become almost worthless again. Having said all that, for what he is asking, anyone going in there faces exactly the same difficulties and is very unlikely to make the maths work.
  6. Speaking of which, it would appear it is still up for sale sadly. https://rightbiz.co.uk/buy_business/for_sale/198116_norfolk.html
  7. The problem is The Highway Code is not keeping up with current design thinking. Another problem is design changes over the years since people have taken their driving test. In many areas now they are introducing the concept of shared space where the kerbs are removed to bring the pavement and road level. Often road markings are also removed to create intentional uncertainty about who has the right of way, which is meant to slow everyone down and therefore be safer. Studies have shown however that where traffic flow is below 90 car per hour it seems to work. Once traffic flow is above this then people revert to type and create a virtual pavement fronting any property, and traffic starts to move faster again and segregation occurs again.
  8. Seems a very fair policy. It must be hard to do a price match type policy such as high street retailers use, due to the difference in internal fit out of similar boats and also the quality of fit out etc.
  9. That's strange, a post from Vaughan seems to have disappeared from this thread. It was the second post on the thread, how bizarre.
  10. Thanks, just checked and I have used 10 in the last 19 hrs, so maybe it works on a rolling 24hr clock? Do you know when / if the limit gets raised?
  11. Good spot, was available at the handsome cover price of ÂŁ2.50. I would assume it is now out of print. Seems to be a few available on Amazon used, some rated as like new.
  12. The attached also suggests it is unusual to see a wherry in a lock with the mast up,
  13. I have seen that before and I believe the thinking is that should there be a coming together between a vehicle and a cyclist, the cyclist nearest to the traffic is heading in the same direction and therefore the combined impact speed lower.
  14. Thank you, again I tried to use the Thank reaction, but it is still saying daily limit reached. There's a couple of posts on The Horsey Mere and Wherries threads I'd like to acknowledge but cannot at the moment. Not to worry I'm sure it will resolve itself in the next few hours / days. Hopefully one of the mods may spot this thread when they are less busy.
  15. Does anyone know what the daily limit is for reactions / likes? I tried to like a couple of posts late last night and it said I had reached the daily limit. I was still online at the stroke of midnight and tried again and it still said the same. Have tried again this morning and still the same. I'm assuming the daily limit must be a rolling 24hr limit?

That map also appears to show the second windmill referred to here, https://www.horseyvillage.com/1816-Award-Map.html I'm guessing that due to lack of dredging by Ye Olde Broade Authoritye back in the 1800s that corner of the Mere has silted up and the old staithe become disused. Just as well we have a more forward thinking Authority now!!!
  17. Johnk made this very astute observation on another thread which I have borrowed, "Funny how so many threads go this way later on an evening isn’t it? " Lets hope this thread returns to normal service very quickly.
  18. The lock has had some much needed work done this year to stop the walls from falling in. I wonder what the building just behind the cross bars was? There's a lot more trees there now, but no building from memory. The pub looks a lot smaller without it's extensions. Lovely picture.
  19. I had a similar problem the other day, not sure what the limit is, but there does appear to be a daily limit.
  20. Some more pictures can be viewed here, does look very high and more to come apparently, http://anyportinastorm.proboards.com/thread/7740/high-water-paris?page=4

Interesting piece about that staithe about halfway down this page, https://horseyvillage.com/1816-Award-Map.html
  22. Does Pru come along to fill in the paperwork for him?

The following interesting website has a piece about Horsey staithe. https://horseyvillage.com/Horsey-Staithe.html

Looking at the attached map and satellite image you can see the difference in the edge of the Broad and the length of the dyke. I wonder if the staithe was originally in the area I have marked in Red? The drainage channels don't appear to have moved much as a reference.
