As my apprenticeship was in agricultural engineering Both Mechanical and Electrical. I was oft found working on the Horticultural side of the business. Everything from 12 foot Hydraulic park mowers down to push mowers. I used to be our mobile mechanic and some of the people I have met doing the job were a delight, Graham Hill and Damon although he was only 2 when I met him. Graham was a true gent and spent many an hour chatting to him  Spike Milligan, possibly one of the most disturbed people I have ever met. but, In his lucid times a raconteur and wit of the highest standing. He could literally stand in his garden and recall with all the voices, Goon show scripts. I even sat down to tea with him and heard the rough prose, from his wartime exploits soon to become "a dictator my part in his downfall.  Through sport I have also met lots of stars most outside of their profession. Joanna Lumley and Doreen Keogh (Concepta Hewitt from Corrie) preparing and serving tea at cricket in Rolvenden. Fielding at third man one day and a lady was leaning on a five bar gate at the bottom of her garden i struck up a conversation with her every other over It was Jan Francis from The two of us. All were absolutely wonderful to chat to.

I later had a job delivering cars for Ford fleet met loads of the motoring press through loan press cars usually new models. Met Clarkson, May and Hammond before they knew each other. Paddy Hopkirk. Jackie Stewart and hundreds more all a joy to meet. Even most of the Royal family I have met in two differing roles and apart from a couple, a joy when nobody else is around

So meet you heroes? I have and it was a blast.

Yes but your heroes were sober at the time.

for just moorings the staffing levels are a lot lower and running costs will just be to maintain the quay headings and facilities, no expensive boats to buy and maintain, probably a lower profit margin, but the income is consistent.

And you get weekends off which reducess the stress levels.

It’s a square thing with all the safety features. Auto shut off when tilted, flame behind glass, metal gauze heating and battery start.
It has a detachable fuel tank that allows remote refuelling.
coupled with the boats own carbon monoxide alarm and in built vents.
we use the boats own heater when moving and the paraffin when moored because it’s cheaper to run and of course, power free.

And does it smell of paraffin?

We did it but with lots of precautions.
safety factor. Ice on the decks.
we’ve got a flattie which is ideal because moving about and getting out for mooring is easy.

we’ve got a paraffin heater now so that we drain less from batteries.

Haven`t seen a paraffin heater in a long time, are they safe to use on a boat being a naked flame and a liquid or have you secured it to stop it moving around and do they still smell like I remember?

The Nogs are fine, many thanks. Just taking a bit of a break at the mo. December should be all go, barring accidents and another lockdown. Bridgecraft are really excellent, being a smaller, family run yard they are able to be more flexible and really look after their customers. :91_thumbsup:

    Roll on December!

Sometimes it is good to step back and recharge from forums. Good to hear both of you are ok none the less.

Just spotted it on the YBW forums, never heard of it before and been using and buying this size of bottle for 20 years, always worth checking your bottles just in case as it looks easy enough.

Seemed a good idea to share.

Agree it is good to share, I asked because nothing recent came up when I looked under 2021 recalls.
