  1. Fraid not John, although having used Swancraft many times summer and winter can't recall ever having any particular problems getting on and off the boat.
  2. I really hate to be pedantic (hide behind sofa) but as this thread keeps cropping up, is there any chance someone could correct the typo in the title pretty please?
  3. Just to update members on the latest developments from Swancraft. The excavation of the new basin is pretty much complete, site cleared and new quay headings all put in. You can see from the photo which I took in early December, the new layout of the yard. Basically the original basin remains with the addition of new moorings formed from excavating the former grassed area between the office and stores and the main dyke. This will provide more mooring spaces with berths available for long and short term as well as visitor moorings. I should stress the photo was taken whilst works were underway, it has all have been tidied now. Security will be well catered for as I understand CCTV is to be installed along with the existing boatyard lighting. The yard remains a working yard and staff will be around to keep an eye on your pride and joy. In addition the yard has its own private driveway and the main road access to the riverside estate is protected by a barrier and its own CCTV. Brundall is an excellent base with not only all the boatyard facilities but local shops and pubs close by as well as good road and rail access. Swancraft will continue to offer full boatyard facilities including slipway, repairs, maintenance, engineering and a specialist service for Mikuni heating systems. They will also continue to build the luxury Shadow range of craft, one of which is under construction as we speak. The moorings will also have the benefit of water, electricity, pump outs and diesel available which I understand will be a very reasonable 99p per litre at current prices. There is a large car parking area which has been raised slightly to avoid possible flooding. The new Swancraft website is under construction as the previous one had to be taken down as the yard wrere still getting a lot of enquires about hiring. In the meantime it is advised to contact via email at sales@swancraft.co.uk or contact Paul on 01603 712362 Swancraft welcome enquires regarding moorings using the above contacts. Many thanks
  4. Well I did my bit yesterday. Supported the pub lunchtime and evening. Slight headache this morning, I blame the cranberry sauce Keep supporting your local!!
  5. What better way to listen to the Queen than on a classic Bush DAC90A
  6. Looks like Fair Executive to me Monica. Lucky so and so,s Better to moor on the pontoon in winter tho (assuming there is room of course)
  7. You can definitely put me in the second category 'cheers Jeff and all our members have a good one. Down the pub in a couple of hours
  8. Don't forget that many pubs (including some on the Broads) open for drinks on Christmas Day lunchtime. Great way to socialise and work up an appetite for your Christmas dinner!
  9. Hi I do have quite a bit of experience re winter hire. I'm afraid the only yard which will definitely hire is Faircraft Loynes. If you can wait until February Herbert Woods start hiring then. Other yards may hire at their discretion but will only consider doIng this if you are very well known to them. Afraid my knowledge of fishing is zero but wonder if another option would be to hire a small dory type craft with an outboard and work from a cottage or apartment? Good luck!
  10. Well said Steve, my sentiments exactly Just got another T shirt too
  11. Well done indeed. See here also
  12. A very warm welcome Vaughan Good to have you on board, your knowledge and historical perspective will be invaluable. I believe you have given a lot of help to Carol too on her excellent site
  13. Shame we're not closer, Mrs Nog would have been happy to look after the cat! Doesn't look bad on the forecast so you shouldn't have problems with ice. Hope it works out, have a good one!
  14. Cheers, MM couldn't agree more, excellent sentiment
  15. The Scots are very wise people IMHO Iain!!!!! Excellent stuff.
  16. Hi Monica Lovely pictures, thanks for sharing with us. It looks to be a charity bash in aid of Nelson's Journey, a Norfolk based charity to help bereaved children. Well done Herbert Woods
  17. Lovely atmospheric photo Carol And may you have a very Adnams (and Old Chimneys) filled Christmas!
  18. Never one to miss an opportunity to give our pubs a shameless plug, I thought I'd post a photo of my new T Shirt which arrived today. I shall be wearing it with pride over the festive season It does have serious side though, many pubs will be doing well now, but think of the landlord when it's January and February. He still has to pay business rates and his (or her) pound of flesh to Punch and Co. Keep visiting the pub! This might be a bit contentious but I am very sceptical about this dry January malarky. It might be well intentioned but badly thought through IMHO. Pubs are struggling, 29 closing each week, this is the last thing they need. I've just posted this on Twitter too and it's seems to be going viral with loads of re-tweets
  19. That's brill Alan, does that mean you are going to be out for New Year? Glad you enjoyed it, hopefully you have now been bitten by the winter cruising bug I understand where you are coming from re lone mooring but I can't say we've ever had a problem or felt uneasy. I might think twice about mooring at Salhouse Broad for instance which is away from civilisation (and a risk of freezing) or possibly some of the so called wild moorings. Although conversely I don't think nefarious characters would bother venturing to remote spots. It's like most things in life, just excerise sensible precautions I think.
  20. Just catching up, great to hear about your trip and fantastic pictures, thanks for sharing. Hope you enjoyed the peace and quiet and empty moorings! It really is a great time to be out. There are plenty of places to get water, just needs a bit of planning.
  21. That's interesting, the link seems to have disappeared from Poppy's post It's still on Twitter though and it's been re-tweeted over 4,000 times, maybe Yodel have got the message.
  22. That's the one Poppy! Disgraceful behaviour, hope they get the tin tack!
  23. I think that's very much the point Strowager . The service is only as good as the agent or delivery person. I saw an appalling video posted on Twitter recently which showed a Yodell driver literally throwing parcels from one van to another. One of my hobbies is vintage radios and I have had several damaged by different couriers and others have arrived safely. I think it's luck of the draw whether you get the muppet or not!
