  1. Welcome Sarah. I'll try to post you a bit more info later (got to go out) Probably best child friendly pub is arguably the Bridge Inn at Acle. How old are the children? Most places are easily accessible from the river. If it's your first time you might be better to stick to the 'Northern' rivers.
  2. Yes good point Jean, if you're not familiar with Norwich a map is a good idea. Fully endorse what others have said, I think you should have a few to go at there!
  3. Thinking about it, if you fancy somewhere to a bit more special for your lunch you could try the Maids Head Hotel in Tombland. Close to the cathedral and steeped in history it would make a very pleasant setting and although not cheap it shouldn't break the bank. Just a thought. There are plenty of good pubs too - the Murderers on Timberhill is near the main shopping areas and a pleasant old interior. There's the Sir Garnet right next to the Market too. . The Vine on Dove Street is renowned for its Thai food if that's your thing.
  4. Not sure how mobile your good lady is. There are loads of very nice little cafe type places in the Lanes area of Norwich. This is roughly between the Market/st Giles Street and St Bennedicts/St Andrews St. The area is quite compact but much is pedestrianised and there are some steep hills. You also have Wetherspoons at one end of the scale and there are some posh restaurants depending on how far you want to push the boat out! For cheap and cheerful the Wetherspoons Bell Hotel is very handily placed next to the Castle Mall and handy for the Market and major stores such as Debenhams and Marks and Spencers.
  5. Not sure where you are based but you could try giving Paul Crampton a bell at Swancraft in Brundall. Telephone 01603 712362 He has experience of these boats as they had them in the hire fleet. Good luck!
  6. You can get a regular (daytime) bus service from Wroxham to Norwich First service 12 or Konnect service 53 (been there got the T Shirt) I belive Sanders coaches took over the old Stalham Ludham, Horning route. I'll have a look. It certainly was possible to get a bus from Horning but the stop is at Mill Hill near the main road so it's a bit of a walk from the river. The lovely Wendy at Horning cars will take you into the centre of Norwich for around 16 quid.
  7. Looks like HRH was certainly enjoying himself!
  8. Here's a picture of Charlie Boy (nicked from Twitter) pulling a pint at Upton. Shame he ignored the two fine local beers to the left and chose the ubiquitous Wherry, Bet Woodfordes are rubbing their hands. Still it could have been worse, at least he ignored the even more tasteless Greene King IPA Wonder what Camilla had? A Pimms perhaps? Or even a half of Stella ( heaven forbid) But seriously though good to see HRH recognising the success of this excellent community pub which hopefully can act as an inspiration to others as to what can be achieved
  9. This is a much better photo showing the completed job and very smart it looks too. The work around the pathways looked to be coming on well too
  10. Interesting point. I think it depends a lot on how good the yards batteries and charging systems are. We hired from Swancraft for many years in December and never needed to run the engine to start the heating. In many years of winter cruising I've never used shore power. I do begin to wonder in Jeans example is whether Faircraft Loynes systems were really up to the job particularly with such a new boat.
  11. I hoped to go past last week as the Tides were favourable but it was not to be. In any event I would doubt if anything would happen before Easter. As usual rumours abound and I tend to ignore them if they can't be triangulated. There is a story that it has been sold but again un-substatiated. There was a rumour Green Jack were involved but again not proven one way or another. We do know planning permission was refused to turn it into a house and the ACV application by Norwich CAMRA was turned down by the Council as they alleged the pub has no 'community' to serve. I have asked my colleagues in Norwich CAMRA to let me know if any developments come to their attention in which case I would of course pass them on here.
  12. Thanks for the heads up Roy. I wonder if he'll take Camilla in for a g and t Superb pub and an example of how it can be done (free from the nasty pubcos of course)
  13. No sign of pool table or dartboard yet but I gather they are aiming less gastro so fingers crossed! Please keep us posted folks.
  14. Here's Riverman's handiwork. Looks a top job
  15. Thanks for the update Alan I heard on the pub grapevine that Damion was leaving so that's filled in the gaps. Might try to pop in if the boot hasn't sunk by then
  16. The ability of this thread to drift never ceases to amaze me! :-)
  17. Well good news for Griff, under the new management apparently they now accept all male groups etc. It seems they are now less gourmet and aiming for the more pub grub market. Watch this space.
  18. Do you mean the Bridge itself Lori or the area round it? I should be there in a day or two so can check if no one else is there before.
  19. I've been trying to triangulate info about the Broadshaven from various sources and the story seems pretty consistent that it's not going to be a pub any more and most likely flats. It's very much closed. I also heard the tea rooms are to start selling alcohol so maybe spotting a gap in the market.
  20. Ah, be more up to date than mine, wonder if one of our technical whizzes have any ideas?
  21. Hmmmm, sorry about that Poppy. Wonder if it depends on your operating system I'm using Windows 7 and Internet Explorer
  22. Poppy, assuming you are using a computer or a laptop (not a tablet) try holding down the control key (sometimes marked ctrl) and at the same time hitting the Home key. that should take you straight back to the top of the page. Can't guarantee it will work but it works on mine!
