  1. It certainly was http://www.norfolkpubs.co.uk/norfolkh/hemsby/hemsbla.htm Well spotted! Looks a cracking pub too
  2. well spotted! its good that the old brewery has been remembered. The new company bought the name and the yeast strains. Although they've only been on the go for 2 or 3 years they seem to be doing very well. The new brewery is, I believe, on Main Cross Road but I've never been there sadly
  3. Oh, wow My sister was on holiday a couple of years back and brought me back a bottle. Top notch stuff, highly recommended
  4. Hi Iain May have been the Gallon Pot?? It used to be a Wethereds pub, part of Whitbread which took over the original Lacons. The Barking Smack still has an excellent original Lacons sign next to the front door.
  5. Lacons is fine beer indeed and well worthy of the old name. Glad you enjoyed it Liz
  6. Yep, I forgot about the finger lickin' brigade. And Paddy Power too JA - priceless
  7. Ha, ha, alas Grace 5,000 is no more. I've checked with the Chairman (no less) of Norwich CAMRA and the figure now is more like 770. What Hitler failed to do Watneys and latterly Tesco, McDonald's and the Co-op have done for the rest
  8. Fair comment by HP I suppose trying to see both points of view its better to be safe than sorry!
  9. Just looking at the home page again it says " 5,000 pubs currently listed" bit confusing but I'm pretty sure it means all pubs listed on the database (including closed ones) rather than currently trading (if that makes sense) :-)
  10. I think that's probably a bit out of date Lab. There were only 50,000 pubs in the UK in 2014 probably a good few less now. So I think 10% of UK pubs is probably a bit much. I'll check with my colleagues in Norwich CAMRA to get a definitive number. Incidentally the Norfolk pubs is an excellent resource but does list every pub including all the closed ones. So there may be some confusion there. I will check though
  11. Hmmmmmm, good stuff and good to see the pubs getting a plug too. I think the claim of 5,000 pubs in Norfolk sounds very iffy to me, if only!
  12. Just to throw something else into the mix. Another option would be to moor at say Acle, and get a taxi into Yarmouth. If there are a few of you it wouldn't cost a fortune. Be a lot quicker and save all the hassle of mooring there. Just a thought.
  13. Yep, based in Warwickshire - they certainly like whacky names eg Gravedigger Ale, Vicars Ruin and Stout Coffin. I will look out for them with interest Dave - I like your fridge - a most eclectic mix I'm afraid I'm not very up to speed on the continental beers but the Blue Monkey and Humpty Dumpty caught my eye, magic stuff. I think Blue Monkey not a million miles from your Manor? Superb stuff
  14. Not tried that I must say, think I would have remembered I have a theory that beers with really silly names or rugby themed beers are usually not up to much. IMHO of course
  15. Belinda Jennings is certainly making her mark at Woodfordes with more new beers. These sound really interesting and I'm itching to try them. Belinda is pictured on the right of the photo
  16. Mrs Nog frequently comments on this very point. Its amazing how often a boat will attempt to moor up and everyone just sits in the boat either expecting the ropes to magically uncoil themselves or expecting the skipper to do everything!
  17. Hmmmmmm, the ladies sign could be a kilt, thing is those signs are industry standard and appear in many of the pubs I visit. The poster was obviously a red Herring. So you are completely exonerated Grace
  18. You're not the only one Grace, completely lost me as well
  19. I wish Iain! But thanks for asking. No, I'm afraid she's still hopping around and probably will be for a while yet. I'll keep all you good kind folks posted of any developments!
  20. Thanks Geoff, good suggestion, that may be an option but as you say the draught version if preferable (if you can get it of course). Woodfordes does occasionally find its way up to our manor as I guess they are on the big pubco's lists. Hopefullly we may manage a few days in Norwich when Mrs Nog is up and about again!
  21. Hi Geoff Glad you enjoyed some fine Ales! I'm itching to try the Reedlighter but I'm afraid unless any finds it's way up the land of ferrets and flat caps it might be a while yet. Word on the streets suggests that all the beers have improved since Belinda Jennings took over. Sorry there was no Headcracker though, fine stuff. The beer in Wayford doesn't ring any bells I'm afraid. There's so many now it's hard to keep up. The beer at Wayford has been pretty pedestrian in the past so maybe the new owners have improved the beer choice too
