  1. The only place to be (apart from the Broads of course) is in a pub garden
  2. .....and a grateful customer too!
  3. Hers the beer list, some good stuff on there
  4. Look who's managed to get down to the other end of the Yare!
  5. Well the Wherryman's cafe has scored a maximum One wonders if the influence may be felt at the other side of the river
  6. Or even better just moor up and sit in the pub garden with a beer or three and watch!
  7. Don't take it gospel but I was under the impression that the old Astons (Princess) yard is/was owned by our friend of Beauchamp Berney Golden Galleon fame.
  8. Hi Jean Many thanks for sharing your holiday experience with us, very interesting reading. Reflection 2 is the last boat we hired from Swancraft. We also found it very economical. Its a shaft drive and has quite a small engine but with a well matched propeller performs really well. Like you we took it steady and went with the tide. I know that Radiance had hydraulic steering - not sure if SR2 has also but that could explain why it works so well. Lovely boat, someone actually asked if it was ours and I had to explain it was a hire boat. When those numbers come up..........
  9. It is Pearson's old yard Trevor. As Fred mentioned they closed down a while ago now. I seem to remember their boats were painted yellow and had a Gold theme in the names. One of their old DC30s was moored at Beccles for a long time.
  10. For anyone lucky enough to be on the rivers from 15th to 17th July there will be a beer festival at the White Horse, Upton. I believe that this is now an annual event, should be a cracker
  11. I believe that the height under both bridges is around the seven feet mark at average high water. I would have thought a couple of hours after slack water should be OK but best to check the gauges carefully on the approach just to be on the safe side. Approaching from the South is easier in some ways as you can moor at Berney Arms or Goodchilds which only leaves around 4 miles to travel before Yarmouth. The other way round it is about seven miles from the nearest safe mooring.
  12. Yep, times are correct. Slack water on Weds is 12.30 so I'd be inclined to leave Acle around 10 ish (11 miles approx) you should ride along very nicely on the ebb tide. Good luck!
  13. Mrs Nog is 100% with you on that one Grace! When I get a few hours to spare I'll post some pictures of her shoe collection
  14. There should be something about the Berney in the EDP tomorrow. I understand that the auction has been put back to July and a group is hoping to raise the funds to buy it. Watch this space.
  15. I'd agree with MM. I think its the old Horning Vicarage.
  16. Another excellent pub. The bus stop is pretty much opposite just near the Norwich sorting office. The grub is good and reasonably priced. Can get very busy. Good pub for Rugby fans too.
  17. Loads of buses as Marshman says, Konect run several services and 14/15 First services. They all finish around 7 at night though. You could also stop off at the Fat Cat and Canary en route
  18. Must agree with you there Jean, particularly re Swancraft. I hired form Bridgecraft in December and I must say I was very impressed with them and their friendly customer service. I take up Simon's point too. I've never hired from Horizon but had several dealings with them for pump outs and general assistance. Friendly and nothing too much trouble. One of their guys even thawed out their hose for us one December a few years back. Good as the bigger yards are, they just don't compete with the small yards IMHO when it comes to personal service. And to me that is very important.
  19. That's interesting Iain, well spotted! The first thing that springs to mind is where would they put them all? Not sure how many boats are at Horizon Craft maybe 30? Of course all the Horizon boats go up there in the winter but I guess a good part of the fleet will be in the sheds at any one time. I had a look around Richardsons in December and it looked pretty full. There was very little in the way of mooring space. Most of the ex Swancraft boats were on hardstanding. I don't think they've sold many. Could be an interesting exercise in logistics!
  20. Sounds good I must say I've been very impressed with the way Belinda Jennings has been engaging with the local community, a very shrewd appointment by Woodfordes IMHO
  21. Barry and Strow - brilliant photos many thanks for sharing
  22. My giddy Aunt!!!! One of the numerous reasons we go in December!
