  1. I've attached a couple of photos of Neatishead Staithe. You can see the contrast between summer and winter It is wide enough for three 12 foot beam boats with a bit to spare but not a lot. I have reversed out but as has been said care is needed. If possible Mrs Nog and I spin the boat round on the ropes if there is room when we arrive. Obviously that would have been impossible with the Jewel. It's also a very popular spot for fishermen although they tend to sit right at the entrance on the corner at either side. The White Horse is an excellent pub so the effort is well worthwhile IMHO. It is possible to moor at Gays Staithe and walk the extra distance - from memory it adds about 10 - 15 minutes to the trip. I seem to recall though that the track from the Staithe to the road is very muddy.
  2. Probably not many pubs we havent covered by now most Broads pubs are very good But yes, White Horse at Upton is a real cracker, owned by the community and also Good Beer Guide listed. Highly recommended
  3. I did wonder if Steve had been in the Dog as he did mention going to Ludham Bridge. But just in case, yes, superb friendly pub, good grub and Good Beer Guide listed too!
  4. Yep Recruiting Sergeant well established for many years, good reputation for grub and beer good too. Bit of a walk if you moor at Coltishall Common but quite do-able. I've heard that the Sutton Staithe hotel has had a bit of upheaval recently, just might be worth checking out.
  5. I would suggest the White Horse at Neatishead for starters. Good grub and excellent beer too.
  6. That is a stunning trip indeed. Includes Somerleyton Bridge, along the New Cut and over Reedham Bridge. well worth it.
  7. Just found a couple of photos of Commisioners Cut which was discussed earlier.
  8. Another option of course. About twenty minutes by train, two days by river
  9. Hi Helen Just a point to mention -:there is a rough track from the cut which goes over the railway and on to the main road. It's not lit and I would take great care at night, good torch needed. Also buses stop running through Thorpe at around 7pm. I think if you avoid Friday and Saturday nights you shouldn't have a problem at Norwich. As others have said mooring at Brundall is a good option - good train service and they run quite late too. Enjoy!
  10. Hi Helen Commissioners Cut is on the starboard bank going up the Yare just before the bend near the first Thorpe rail bridge.
  11. I'd tend to agree, Norwich is OK particularly during the week. I'd tend to avoid weekends to be on the safe side. Some great sights, fish and chips in the Grosvenor fish bar and some of the finest pubs in the land

  13. Hi Tony As promised here are a few photos of Swan Radiance. I should stress these are under Swancraft ownership so I can't vouch for how the boat looks now but it should give you a good idea. I've also included a couple in the snow just to emphasise how cosy is it/was!!! The hot water tank was massive on account of the whirlpool bath and kept the water hot for ages. Good battery and charging systems. Good heating system and electric toilet. Very easy to handle with hydraulic steering and bow thrusters. A lovely boat.
  14. Hi Tony Also sorry to hear about your mum in law. We had Radiance many times when it was with Swancraft. It's a newer boat than Roamer but otherwise very similar. Sorry I couldn't find any photos of Roamer as we only hired it the once. I should have more photos of radiance though, if you can bear with me I'll look tonight. We had Radiance in the snow during December 2010 and we were as snug as a bug. Lovely boat. I've not been on it since it left Swancraft though.
  15. I think you are bang on the nail there Keith. DRL did indeed lease some from Richardsons and some of the ex Sabena fleet. As someone mentioned earlier Richardsons don't miss a trick, so it all makes perfect sense.
  16. Yep, I wish Ryan and Co every success too. I'm particularly pleased to hear about a yard willing to do winter hire too. Mind you, don't want everyone to know, it might catch on
  17. Hi Bill Thanks for that. I did start a post on the Ship but I think it's slid back down the ratings a bit http://forum.norfolkbroadsnetwork.com/topic/12081-ship-reedham/ My understanding re the Angel is that it's run by the same person who has the Kings Head. Rather alarmingly I heard that there are plans to convert it for housing. I hope this doesn't happen but the pub has a large 'footprint' and would be attractive to a greedy developer. It's an old building though, not sure if it's listed or in a conservation area. Fingers crossed.
  18. Well it's out. Should scrub up nicely
  19. Yep, got to agree about the steak pie Good to hear no nasty pubco involved too, so the future of the pub should be assured A possible career move Ian???
  20. Sorry folks, I should have been clearer. The 60k will be the price for the lease ie for the business and goodwill, fixtures and fittings etc. The new leaseholder would then take on the lease at x£ per year. I'm not sure who owns the pub, I guess it's a pubco. I believe the current tenants have been there for a while.
  21. I see that the lease of the Ship is up for grabs. 60k for a new 15 year free of tie lease. Seems reasonable, its a popular pub and does OK in winter too from what I've seen as its popular with the locals. Its been a consistent pub IMHO and always a must visit for us when we are in Reedham. The beer garden is one of my favourite places on the Broads. Now where's that lottery ticket.......
  22. Just seen this (nicked from Twitter Reedham Chain Ferry is still closed due to a vehicle in the river, for updates please see our facebook page: https://t.co/FxQhL2d7Ts https://t.co/ieRAR005YB
  23. Hi and welcome, good news indeed, wish you the very best of luck.
  24. I’ve been following this thread with interest and wondering whether to make any comment. I hope regular visitors will know that I always try to put a positive slant on Broads businesses wherever possible. However my one and only hire from Silverline was not my happiest experience. Following the handover I folded down the windscreen (it was one of the centre steer Alphas). The day was hot and sunny but quite windy. Mrs Silverline came rushing across the yard and berated me for folding down the screen as “it spoils the look of our boats” I was a bit perplexed at this but not wishing to offend put the screen back up. As soon as we got down the dyke I folded it back again where it stayed most of the week. The boat broke down in the middle of Breydon and had to be towed back to Great Yarmouth. Although this was not our fault and we lost most of the days cruising, the reception on our return was frosty to put it mildly. There was nothing I could complain about as such but I felt more like a naughty schoolboy than a customer. Compare that with the warmth of Jenny at Swancraft or Stephanie at Bridgecraft. Lovely people. I hate to knock any Broads business. I agree that the boats are very well presented and accept that the yard have their devoted followers. I also respect the views of Peter and others who have spoken up for them. But I’m afraid its Bridgecraft all the way for me and Swancraft of course when the lottery comes up and I can buy my own boat!
