  1. Ian, given Rick's interest it does seem he is the likely candidate although we have not had confirmation from the horses mouth so to speak. But based on my recent conversation with him I remain extremely optimistic I suspect in any event there are lot of formalities to be completed so I guess we'll find out in due course. As I say I remain hopeful!
  2. I also had the pleasure of speaking to Rick a couple of weeks ago while negotiations were underway so this sounds most promising. Rick also had some excellent ideas for the pub so I think it will go very well. Without getting into a debate about the previous landlord if he could keep it going for 14 years, imagine what Rick and his team could achieve. BTW the beer in the White Horse was exceptional. my good friends at Norwich CAMRA have voted it pub of the year so another good indicator for the Lion. Fingers crossed for those T's
  3. He appeared on an album by my favourite band of all time, the Small Faces. Called Ogdens Nut Gone Flake. A classic
  4. Dunno but I'm with Lab on this one. Couldn't organise a you know what in a brewery.
  5. .....or get the train, ten minutes walk from Lowestoft station. Superb pub but be warned, so popular it can get very busy! I do believe it's closed on Thursday though.
  6. It's also worth having a word with Phoenix fleet (pilots office) re dayboats. They do the electric ones which are very quiet and certainly in my experience may be prepared to show some flexibility with pricing.
  7. As long as you enjoy the other five and a half no problem John!
  8. We were down there on Tuesday It certainly seems to be wider and easier to navigate
  9. Stuck on the train just outside Attleborough - tree on the line apparently Think it's going to be a long journey back to the land of the flat caps and ferrets
  10. We travelled from Norwich by bus and taxi from Wroxham/Hoveton to Potter Heigham The area seems to be riddled with roadworks The ones in Wroxham particularly disruptive, queues back to the garage near the roundabout
  11. Sounds good stuff Steve! (getting them back on track - that'll be a first!)
  12. Very interesting Peter, definitely food for thought. I fear you are right with the old boats. Such a shame. Wasn't there an old boat 'graveyard' behind the sheds at Martham? And how would you actually scrap a GRP boat? Cut up and go to land fill maybe?
  13. Just seen this on Twitter, not sure if it's related but worth keeping a look out! Please call if this male seen near River Bure - possibly sleeping rough in unattended moored boats or a tent! #Hoveton #Horning #Coltishall https://t.co/zdVncYdRBm
  14. An hour and a half to go and still sixty five quid. Come on Vaughan, you can do it!
  15. Well it's up to sixty five quid and still two days to go. All contributions to Vaughan!
  16. Been in loads of times Vaughan as we regularly stay in the excellent Marlborough Guest House just round the corner down Stracey Road. The grub is very good. I do like the beer although it's just a little malty for my taste. Very well priced though. It's a very busy pub too, I'm pushed to think of a time when we've been in and it's been quiet. Rugby very popular on the TV. Amazing to think it was once a failing pub. Just shows what can be done with a pub in the right hands.
  17. Yes, I believe the right hand bank is owned by the farmer and the left by the pub.
  18. Nice one! Good luck and fingers crossed!! Please keep us posted (within the bounds of business confidentiality of course)
  19. You got an offer in Rick????
  20. Just seen that the Lion is up for sale, freehold. Doesn't say how much, price on application apparently. 2.3 acre site including moorings, 120 covers, etc etc. Lottery anyone??
  21. Mark, it looks as if this is probably an independent outfit - the coincidence is that they are based in Bury St Edmunds so I can see exactly where Lab is coming from. The points he mentions about GK I'm fully in agreement about. However I've checked the Good Beer Guide which is usually pretty good in identifying who owns which brewery and it does seem that they are not under the GK umbrella. There are so many breweries now its hard to keep track! If you enjoyed the beer that's the main thing.
  22. I'm 110% with Lab on that one. However doing a quick check on the Good Beer Guide it doesn't directly connect them with Greene King, albeit they are in Bury St Edmunds. I shall bow to those with more local knowledge though! Anything from the Westgate Brewery I would give a wide berth!
  23. Nice one Ian, got to agree with that. Mrs Nog popped in last month and was very impressed. Re the Jewel, was trying to say it would probably be difficult to turn them around on the ropes in the staithe itself but no problem getting them in forwards/ backwards if that makes sense.
