  1. I think it's the same one who has/had the Rising Sun and I think a pub in Sheringham. Quite well known locally if its the one.
  2. Looks like they have TWO Humpty Dumpty on, definite improvement on the Greene King last time I called in. May just get up there today.:-)
  3. Mrs Nog was definitely not interested in these!!!!
  4. Here you go. We've found them very good but like most Broads taxis they only have a couple of drivers so it's well worth booking early if you can. We've used them many times and been very happy.
  5. I must confess to my shame I seem to have overlooked this thread, probably because it was titled private boaters but I guess the same applies to all really. I must say that I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiments expressed by the OP. Certainly as far as drinks are concerned we use 99% local pubs. Never have any alcohol on the boat (well possibly the odd bottle of Humpty Dumpty) :-) . We use local shops as far as possible, don’t bring food with us and use local taxis too – mainly Wendy at Horning Cars and Our Hire at Acle. I can appreciate some have concerns about prices in some establishments. Certainly up here in the land of the flat caps and ferrets everything is generally a bit cheaper. But I take the view if I’m on holiday I’m not going to worry about beer or other things costing a little bit more – the Norfolk Broads experience is priceless! (IMHO of course)
  6. Ha ha, yes apologies Grace, I'm sure that you are the epitome of elegance, perhaps sashay might have described you better! but no, I think I'll leave the waddling to Mrs N - I feel safer nearer to the ground! (especially after a Humpty Dumpty or three)!!
  7. Yet more shoes today I could just imagine Grace strutting her stuff down Stalham High Street in these babies
  8. I think they do Jean, I've always found HW very helpful and co-operative. Problem is having hired from Swancraft for many years they set the standard for others to follow! Having said that I've hired from HW many times and been very happy. That does tend to be in February admittedly when they have come off winter maintenance so faults will inevitably crop up during the season and the yards will rely on hirer's to let them know when things go wrong, I suppose in fairness they can't check everything in the short turnaround time.
  9. Hmmm, we had Evening Light 3 in February and couldn't fault it. There are 4 in class. 3 Evening Light and 1 Freedom of Light. All consecutive numbers. I think for boats around 20 years old they stand up well. Certainly hoping to book again in February. Until this year they were in the Elite classification. We've hired Freedom several times.
  10. I don't know why but I always think of Grace when I see shoes! Mrs Nog has been in her element today. Saw some that might suit you Grace but probably couldn't class them as boat shoes
  11. Sounds an excellent event indeed! Have a good one Mr G Just wish I could be there!!!
  12. I'm assuming Rick will have put some decent beer on? I'll hopefully be in around 2 weeks time
  13. Rhaid i hyn fod yn sicr y edau mwyaf ar hap o bob amser!
  14. Start 'em early! Nice one!
  15. Not sure about Stalham, there's the Swan which is OK I think but probably not as good as the White Horse. As Simon suggested Richardson's would certainly be an option - one idea might be to get a cab to Neatishead, shouldn't cost a fortune and you have the best of both worlds.
  16. This is a picture of the village Staithe taken in February (bit quieter then, although you wont have the fishermen to contend with hopefully) You can see the bank at the bottom of the Staithe, there would be a bit of a step up I think from the bathing platform. Hopefully should be OK. You'll love the White Horse. We were on Evening Light and I reckon access from the stern will be very similar.
  17. Sorry just crossed with your last post. White Horse is an excellent pub and a sound choice IMHO. Yes, you would need to be right at the bottom of the Staithe to be both side on and stern on if that makes sense. Might be worth getting there early to secure your chosen spot. Good luck!!
  18. Hi, I'm assuming that you're on Golden Emblem from your other thread?? Its looks to be very easy access from the stern as the rear door opens almost directly onto the flat bathing platform. Your only problem (if it is one) is that the bathing platform looks fairy low down so the missus might have to step up slightly to get over the key heading (if that makes sense). But if her mobility is limited, stern on sounds a good move. As others have said Gays Staithe would be a good choice and a nice sheltered mooring.
  19. A very worthy cause too! http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/news/broads-museum-appeals-for-auction-donations-1-5020127
  20. Bit in the EDP as well. Note the picture of Peter's friend too - dig the hat!!! http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/news/stately-broads-cruiser-ready-to-hit-the-waterways-again-1-5020714
  21. Mmmmm, interesting points. Piccies nicked from Twitter.
  22. It would appear from t'internet that Spark of Light is being launched today. Be good to see some piccies!
  23. That's the most important thing! Beers can change but once a pub is shut its more difficult to bring it back particularly if it ends up as flats.
  24. Exactly CC. Put it better than I could.
  25. Mmm, cider sounds a good choice under the circumstances. What a shame. I think the answer lies in the price. To an extent, but not always, good beer costs more. The wholesale price can vary considerably and cash strapped landlords will often (but not always) go for the cheapest. Its a bit of a case of never mind the quality, feel the width in many cases which is a shame. I have suspicions that Greene King probably sell their products very competitively in the free trade which is probably why it seems to turn up so often unfortunately.
