  1. I would think probably not although it is a thought. Punch have sold the pubs to New River Retail, pub wreckers extraordinaire. They in turn are in working with the Co-op to open much needed convenience stores. I think these are in urban areas though so the Potter pubs may be safe - for the moment. In any event I think the Falgate is/was Enterprise but I could be wrong (I often am). Incidentally one of the pubs Punch have sold to NRR is the Roscoe Head in Liverpool which has appeared in every edition of the Good Beer Guide since 1974. I'm not a fan of Punch or New River Retail but this is a family forum so I'll say no more!
  2. Just picked up from Twitter that Sanders coaches are to run a new service 10 to serve Stalham, Catfield, Ludham and Horning from 21st September. Wonder if this is to fill the breach left by First????
  3. Hi Carol Great stuff, really enjoyed reading your holiday tale, many thanks indeed for sharing with us. You are right, there is so much to see away from the actual rivers, well worth exploring. I was very interested in the Queens Head, I seem to think it is/was listed in the Good Beer Guide, must check. I'm glad the Berney was doing well, just hope it can carry on. Also glad the Trawlerboys was on form. Well done for supporting the local hostelries
  4. The Locks! I'm not jealous of course That Grain Oak is a very fine drop too!
  5. If all else fails Griff you could try ringing the Beauchamp as I'm sure Mr Hollocks will have the current number for the Berney! Green Jack Brewery may have it too if they are supplying beer there.
  6. Nice one Carol, really glad you made it Look foward to your holiday tale too Did you find any Trawlerboys perchance? You did well walking back too
  7. Hi Clive Glad you managed to get in. Were you not too happy? Can you share with us or would you rather not say?
  8. Well done Keith, excellent stuff :-) I sincerely hope that the BA take note of a very clear pattern emerging particularly regarding the aspirations of the freeholder.
  9. Hi Folks Just the very gentlest of bumps Carol shares some fantastic old films with us. Some are generously donated, however some are purchased by Carol on eBay. The cost of these can be considerable particularly if collectors have deep pockets. Therefore it would be really helpful if anyone has the price of a pint they could help with. It could even be a Wetherspoons pint, it doesn't have to be a lot! Many folks have already helped Carol out which is much appreciated. Thank you very much, as I say it's a very gentle bump Link to Carols site at the top of the thread.
  10. I seem to recall reading somewhere that Punch wouldn't sell it either. Yet they are keen enough to flog off pubs to the likes of Tesco, McDonald's and the Co-op. Dog in the manger springs to mind?
  11. Didn't Whispering Reeds have small weekend type cruiser? I know they sold their hire fleet but not sure if they kept this one?
  12. A cracking objection has just been lodged by a Mr David Broad. Some really good points about inaccuracies and unrealistic expectations. Hope Mr Hollocks reads it and I also hope the BA come to a sensible decision!
  13. Signed it. Buses are scarce enough in rural Norfolk as it is. As a non driver myself I use buses a great deal. There always seems an assumption that everyone has a car which of course they don't. Thanks for raising this Keith, I will follow with interest.
  14. Found the photos Carol. This is pretty much the route. About ten minutes before the beer and poss 15 after.
  15. Forgot to add, the track to and from the station is not too distinctive but basically its best to head towards the mill when walking from the train. In the reverse direction you can head for the white gate which is the station entrance, again roughly from the mill. I might have some photos somewhere, I'll try to dig them out.
  16. Hi Carol Good idea. The trains only run in daylight hours understandably. I think there are only about 2 or 3 per day in the week but more on Sunday which would be the day to go I think. I think the bit about trains not stopping is a bit of folklore possibly. they always slow down to see if anyone wants picking up, as I've watched trains pass there. I think when leaving Norwich, just tell the conductor on the train that you need to stop at the Berney. I have heard them announce this when leaving Norwich on the trains that go that way. Let us know how you get on, never know you might get a Trawlerboys or three
  17. That's good news indeed. I think they would have to do grub to pay the rent, they wouldn't be able to afford it on wet sales alone. Hope they've got some decent beer on
  18. Members will be aware that Swancraft will be ceasing their hire operation at the end of this season and that the fleet will be transferred over to Richardson’s at Stalham. Swancraft will be concentrating on the boatbuilding and repair side of the business and I just wanted to draw member attention to the range of services currently offered. As well as building the luxury Shadow range of boats Swancraft also offer a comprehensive and competitive repair service for all your needs including all aspects of fibreglass work, painting, winter maintenance, engineering and mechanical and electrical services. Swancraft also offer a specialist service repairing and servicing Mikuni heating systems and also carry a comprehensive stock of off the shelf spare parts. Please contact Paul on 01603 712362 to discuss your requirements or email sales@swancraft.co.uk Many thanks
  19. Punch Taverns all over unfortunately. Next thing we know they will have flogged the site off to New River Retail and next thing we know it will be a Co Op convenience store.
  20. Funnily enough Mrs Nog has often commented on the exact point Keith makes as she has observed this many times. People often seem to come into a mooring and seem to expect the boat to tie itself up. I do wonder sometimes if people are so used to driving cars that they just cannot get to grips with the fact that handling a boat is a different matter entierly. On the point of ‘helping’ we certainly got our share of that in May. I know people are just trying to be helpful but we had several occasions where people grabbed the mooring rope out of Mrs Nog’s hand and proceeded to ram us into the quay heading. I sometimes wonder if it’s because there are just two of us and they assume we can’t cope. In fact Mrs Nog copes very well and she usually gathers up both bow and stern ropes, we come alongside, she steps ashore and job done (hopefully). I’m not claiming we are experts by any means and we do make mistakes like everyone else but we know in theory what we should be doing!
  21. Bit in the EDP today. http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/could_norfolk_s_most_remote_broads_pub_the_berney_arms_become_a_house_1_4179738 Looks pretty much a 'desktop' write up lifted from the BA website. I suppose an article like this couldn't really highlight the real problem which is a shame. Still at least it has given some publicity which hopefully may encourage more objections.
  22. Oh dear. This is becoming a bit of a habit.
