We used to use it all the time, the Food and service were great, steak and ale pies you had to climb into to eat them, pure luck if you could get a mooring in the dyke, and the resturant was always full, I've used it once since Sid took over, the food was rank and we left it, the staff were fine though, I just hope someone takes it over who cares, Oh! and I miss that little conveniance shop on the green,,
  2. We had a similar type of boat moored next to us at Womack last week, every now and then he would start his engine, then the wife would appear with a cup of tea, then he would run it for an hour I pressume for hot water, I can only think this type of boat has no gas and relies on the engine to power electric cookers, microwaves and water, for me not a problem in an open mooring, but thinking about the above comments I can see how easily accidents like this happen, he was moored stern on with part of the canopy open, making blow back as the fumes hit the quay heading more likely, my fear is with more of these no gas boats on the Broads are we going to see more accidents like this?? as it seems they can't do anything without running the engine,,
  3. When I got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 5 years ago my doctor, who is diabetic himself told me I'd be living like a Rabbit on salads and gave me two leaflets, one for diabetes and one for high cholesterol, both contradicted what I could and couldn't eat so I ended up totaly confused, Judi has a friend that works at our local hospital and she managed to get me a back door appointment with the diabetic nurse who had years of experiance, as soon as I showed him the leaflets he ripped them up and binned them telling me they were years out of date, his advice was eat what you want in moderation, stay away from anything that has diabetic on the label, and don't bother with anything like the fancy spreads the say they lower cholesterol, just eat more porridge, been doing that ever since, even have cakes and biscuits now and then and so far every yearly check up my results have been perfect, needless to say I changed my doctor and now see a real diabetic nurse who has a fit when I tell her what I eat, but agrees I must be doing something right!!
  4. OK! a healthy one that would give Jamie Oliver a Heart attack, big slab of bread spread with condensed milk and sprinkled with sugar, or bread and dripping loaded with salt, wish someone would explain why I can't remember many overweight or unhealthy people from my childhood, I can't remember any heart attacks and very few cancers, fry ups every morning, eating the fat off the lamb joints, chips cooked in dripping/lard, either I have a bad memory or something has changed because were all still here,,
  5. Having been a near victim of blowback with my 1.6 petrol engine running at 850revs to warm it up, all I can say is if making them compulsory saves just one life then it's worth it!
  6. Think my Parents had high hopes for me naming me Francis Edgar, be Ok when I get my knighthood though with a posh name like Sir Francis Edgar Moody, funny thing is that even as a child I was called Frank, the only times I was ever called Francis was by Mum! then I knew I was in trouble,,
  7. Poppy! are we talking hirers or private here? most private owners and I state most know what side a raggie wants us to pass, but from what I've seen quite a few hirers don't have a clue and could easily presume that when they point thats where they are going, once someone signals me, I give them a thumbs up to let them know I understand, but it must be confusing to someone new on the Broads, you'll never find a cure for the ones that hate raggies and just do things to P raggies off, (yes I've seen it done) but unless we all try to work together and understand each other nothing will ever change, I was glad in a way that the one I nearly killed was a visitor and not a local, but it makes me think the Us and Them attitude is far more wider spread than a lot of us realise,,
  8. It wasn't a problem Q, but even me knowing nothing about sailing though his action was not only stupid but dangerous, I aways creep along there hugging the bank when there's sailing going on, knowing I can accelerate or reverse out of trouble, but this one just went for it and the look he gave me could have killed, I'm glad to know he wasn't one of our locals though as I'm one of few that has never had any problem with them, I don't know if they recogognise my boat or me, but most let me know what side they want me to pass and give a cheery thank you wave, I've even started the habit of if they can see me signaling what side i'm going to pass, then that way they have a chance to tell me what side they want me to go, and so far it works,,,,

See what you mean Peter! that's something I never knew,, We used a couple of times since he took over thinking the food might have improved but no luck on that one, wasn't so long ago you had to fight to get a mooring there, lets hope the right person buys it and invest a bit of cash, it used to be a goldmine back in the day,,

While I've been out on the Broads this last two weeks, a couple of people have mentioned that the owners of the Thurne Lion are selling up, anyone here know anything about it??
  11. Right the signs are up at Percy's £4.00 per day £8.00 over night, I was passing as they went up and they are supposed to be putting a leccie point there, and just heard the moorings opposite the Ferry Inn will be the same and run by the Ferry Inn, there is also a sign up re the ferry across and I was sure it said £7.00 but I'm not 100% sure as someone else said it was £1.00 per person but another replied it was £7.00 per boat,, one things for sure with moorings going private is the BA have no chance of getting them back, and the problem with that is once in private hands they have you by the balls and can charge whatever they want, not that good for some private boat owners, but hell of a shock for those poor b*****s that scrimped and saved all year for there week on the Broads only to find out it's probably going to add another £100.00 for the weeks moorings, I'm voting with my boat and refuse to use the private ones, it wouldn't be quite so bad if the had water points a waste bins, they are going to price hirers off the Broads if they arn't careful,,,
  12. Q! I followed your instructions to the letter, not that I ever have many problems, but did you forget to tell the competitors the score, twice I went through very slowly first time two youngsters miss-judged it and clipped my boat but a couple of older ones in a little blue thing must have thought they were kamikazi pilots aiming straight at me and going under my bow forcing me to slam it into reverse, a little faster on my part and I reckon they's have been sailing clouds, I still don't know how I mised them! second time through wasn't as bad apart from a few that cut me up by watching the other competitors and not where they were going, all in all it was fun apart from the two with a death wish and no damage was done by the two that clipped my boat,,
  13. Thanks again folks! all info passed on, Southern side on a boat is like going abroad to me even though I only live half a mile away from Oulton Broad, did try having a boat there but that lasted three months and we hardly went out, I can't believe how boring we found that side, lack of everything apart from Reeds, so we moved back North, Marshy does have a point about the anti fouling though, more and more people are going anti anti fouling, when you see what it cost to have it done I suppose a lot of people will question it, I do my own but with the lift out it still cost me £250,

I thought you lost the plot for a moment Danny, or some post had been deleted
  15. Sorry! it's a 27ft Elysian, thanks for the help I've passed it on, seems he's just around the corner from Goodchilds, and after I linked him to the price list I think he will be using them, once again thanks for the help,,,,
  16. Ok I need a bit of help, someone I know on the South side wants to get their boat anti fouled, the only two I know are Goodchilds and Waveneny River Centre, I'm trying to save him a bit of money so does anyone know of others over that side and the cost,, Fank Yoo's
  17. Think it was me that said ban the bomb Vet! perhaps riot was the wrong word but there was a lot of violence, the main point I'm making is that things arn't that different now, apart from far too easy access to booze, yes I know it's all to easy to blame things on that, and I well remember getting tanked up with my mates and heading off to Brighton or Margate just for a fight with the rockers, but then i was 10.30pm last orders, order a few pints and neck them as fast as you could, now it's off to Tesco, Asda at 3am to restock, I have four grandkids that do things that I moan about or tell them off about, then two minutes later I think to myself hold up I did that, I'm turning into my Dad, nothings changed in my eyes, it's just 45 years later,
  18. Although I tend to agree, I'm pretty sure everyone thought the same things about us when we were all mere yoofs, there seems to be more aggression and violence now, but remember the battle royals between the Mods and Rockers, all the ban the bomb marches that turned into riots, I personally don't think things have changed that much apart from the easy access to cheap drink, I think a lot of the problem is we are all older and turned into our parents and saying the same things they said about us,,
  19. My boats a youngster at 35 years old when you think some GRP boats from the 50's/60's are still going strong, I won't be around to see it but I think sometime in the distant future everyone will own a 45ft ex Richardson boat, should be fun finding moorings if there are any left, we went to moor up at South Walsham last year, four of Richo's 45footers spaced out and one little private boat and the whole mooring was full, you used to around a dozen or more boats moored there,,
  20. Q! I'm now on Norfolk time and never rush anywhere! most of the time even 4mph is fast for me, I'm sure that because the speed limit says 4mph, 5mph or 6mph people think thats the exact speed you have to do, sometimes I feel guilty pootling along at 3mph if there are boats behind me, and I love watching raggies under sail at any speed, it's just a mystery to me some of the things they seem to do, on the other hand lifes a mystery to me!
  21. Lets face it! if you want quite you don't moor near pubs, not ideal but it's been that way for years whether they were all male, female, mixed or family, where there's booze there's going to be noise, which brings me to another point of why things have changed over the years, you old f**ts like me will remember this, at one time you could only buy your booze from off licences or pubs, most shops shut for half day Wednesday and shut around 5pm, Pubs opened from 11am to 2pm in the day and at night 5pm till 10.30pm, in 1994 they started sunday opening everywhere, then some started 24hr opening, supermarkets started sell booze real cheap, just look at Roys and the trolley loads you see coming out of there, years back booze was limited due to where you could buy it and opening hours, now you can buy cheap booze nearly 24/7 the only break now is Sunday when everything closes at 4pm and dosn't reopen untill 7am Monday morning, so there's the Answer it's Tesco's fault
  22. You lot are rubbish! even the raggies can't answer me! Smellyloo! how do raggies see anything of the Broads at all? all I see them doing is flapping about from side to side watching the sail or pulling ropes, I'd love to try sailing but it looks like too much hard work to me, I've no idea why but I see sailing as a sport and not a leisure thing, I can see the thrill of winning a race but pootling along rivers like the Ant at 3 miles per week just dos't work for me,,
  23. Timbo! you may be onto something, because I remember the Ant seemed quite a bit wider back in the 80's, As for Mozzies I discovered the other day via a TV program I stink, they were doing a thing on the best repellant and mentioned that some people (ME) never or very rarely get bitten, can't remember exactly but I think it was something to do with fairy moans, the wife must have gnome moans because everthing within a hundred miles searches her out and bites her, at least if I get her some Avon stuff she'll smell nicer than Deet,
  24. Iain! for once I'm not acually sure I went off topic as it was still about raggies, I think I'm out of practice,,,
  25. Johnm! find me any thread on this site thats stays on topic! you should know by now it never happens here, and when I'm around I'm one of the worste offenders,, I'm not knocking it! it just puzzles me why? I'm a stinky and 4mph is fast for me but twenty minutes to go something like 50yrds even the ducks were overtaking them, I probably could have turned my engine off and drifted past them at their speed, Nah! i just wondered if there was a reason for them doing it, next time I see it I'll ask, Just to get back on topic I looked at the thread somewhere else that Q mentioned, not only was he shot down, but cut to pieces and blown up as well, so a lot of thanks for trying to help people,,
