  1. I just had a thought! unusual for me I know, but I think you may be onto something with the calorifier because I just remembered I had a very similar problem many years back, and it turned out one of the joints in the heating pipe in the calorifier had seporated so was drawing in cold water somehow, I can't remember the exact details but can remember cutting the old calorifier open and seeing the broken joint on the heater coil, it was an old stainless one I think, I know I bought a new one and fitted it and the problem was cured,,
  2. Oi! whats wrong with plastic boats? I'm proud of mine, much better and cheaper to maintain than those pallet wood ones, look! with boats it's all about learning, people like Griff know lots about the problems with wooden boats, others about rag and sticks and many others about plastic boats, that dosn't make anyone of us an expert, in my case I've owned 7 plastic boats over 35 years, and rebuilt all of them, it dosn't make me an expert but it qualifies me to comment and advise on certain problems or fixes because I've had most of them myself, and most of the stuff I do know I've either learned to fix the hard way or been given good advise from others, and forums like this, if you take my 35 years and add it to a few of the others on here it only takes about 10 people and you'll have a combined knowledge of 500 years, (see where I'm going) so it's nothing to do with experts it's about experiance, you may get 20 comments on how to do or fix something, but I bet at least one of them will be right, now back to Google to look at plastic composite planking so I can build a plastic wooden boat,,
  3. Been using them for a few years! never knew they were based there or I could have picked my ropes up on the way past,,
  4. 2B or not 2B? that is the question! well it was when I did art at School,,

Peter! don't know if you remember but there used to be Swan peddle boats at Coltishall, where the little hut is on the Island, and very few people ever used them, So turn the Broads into a theme park? sorry not for me! keep them pure, the Broads are all about boating and always have been, bring in water sports! cycling and clear some of the beautiful walk that have over grown over the years,
  6. Looking at the prop wash and bow wash I'd say the pilot dug a hole under the bridge! for those that think I'm mad a pilot at Potter taught me to do it back in the 80's, the idea is you go full throttle at the bridge which raise the bow, as you get to the bridge you back off the throttle and the bow drops! this dips the bow under the bridge! as you get the bow under you give it full throttle again, this drops the stern under the bridge, it's weird as you effectivly curve your way under the bridge, the first time I tried it, it was a change of underpants job but after that easy, I wouldn't have the nerve to try it now as I believe the bridge has dropped a bit since the 80's, but it's great sitting there watching the pilot do it,,
  7. I spoke about this on another forum before they even closed, I got shot down and was told I was talking rubbish, it was one of those I know the owner type, I hope your right Fred because I'll take great pleasure in going back to that forum and saying I effing told you that months ago,, didn't know the bit about the stern on though, but I did know they tried for it,,
  8. I've tried the spray on chome in the past! the finish is nothing like Chrome so don't be fooled by the chrome looking lid, nothing gold or brass coloured allowed on my boat, I hate the colour,
  9. On Friday, the scheme, which the estate says would breathe life into the 19th century building and strengthen the local economy, will come before the Broads Authority’s planning committee, with officers recommending it for approval. Now thats odd! The Estate closes the Woodbastwick moorings because the BA wouldn't pay the upped price to renew the lease, and now BA are supporting this new venture, My bet is it will get the go ahead and by this time next year the Woodbastwick moorings will re-open, bit of you scratch my back I'll scratch yours maybe????
  10. This may help! Cleaning Chrome!
  11. Ah Ha I'm way ahead of you lot! I've been doing the tin foil trick for a few years now! and it sort of works, by sort of I mean it shines it well and gets rid of marks, I found the Bacofoil worked best for me, I knew re-chroming wouldn't be cheap but was hoping to save it, but now it looks like I'll just get a new one and put the old one up for sale, it's not too bad but just something thats annoying me and won't look right once I build the new dash, anyway thanks for all the help,
  12. My Dad had this odd saying when I was a kid that I never really understood! he said "At the end of the game Kings and Pawns all end up in the same box" now I'm older I understand! no matter who you are or how much money you have, when your times up it's up!
  13. Doe's anyone know a local company that does re-chroming at a reasonable price?? the chrome on my steering wheel is pitted and getting a bit tatty, I'm thinking of changing it for a new one, but I actually like the old one and think it would look nice re-chromed,, Frank,,,,
  14. Hope everythings OK Bob! the title made me laugh as thats been one of my sayings since I was a little kid, anyone ask where I'm going or where I've been the answer is usually, There and back to see how far is,,,
  15. If I sneeze three times I have had the flu, I've never suffered from colds of flu my entire life, when I got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes the doctor somehow persuaded me to have the flu jab, that year I had flu about three times, endless colds and what made it even worse was I just couldn't shake them, colds hung on for weeks and the flu bought new meaning to man flu, I have never been so i'll in my whole life, the next year I told him about it and he told me it's rubbish it can't affect you, I told him where to stick his flu jab! that was around nine years ago, I now refuse the flu jab and havn't had a cold or flu in all that time,,
  16. dnks! been looking at size, can't seem to find two answers that agree on size, there are just the two of us and I don't mind if it only last a week, the ready made one I'm looking at is 103ltr roughly 22.5 gallons, we use shore based when we can but I'm still not sure 103ltr will be big enough so I might have to have one made to measure as thetre's plenty of space where it's going,,
  17. Sheerline 1070 done to my own spec, or Seamaster 813 gutted and done to my spec, I would have it done to better than showroom condition,,
  18. Never been a lover of Tesco fuel, we now use Nicholsons on the Yarmouth Road, The Green,, Stalham, Norwich NR12 9QG
  19. Alan! they are designed for motor homes not boats! the proper use of them is you put them on 240v at home, switch to 12v while travelling, then when you get to site 240v or gas if there's no hook up, I know loads fit them because they are cheap but they really arn't up to the job on a boat, on 12v they are a battery killer, and a lot I've seen on gas arn't properly vented out the side of the boat, mine is an Isotherm and I can get two days on battery, my son in law has the one you mention and on 12v it didn't last more than about 6hrs with two 110amp battery's,
  20. Thanks Kfurbank, that all makes sense, all covered by bye-laws that most of us never read!, and I didn't!! Now reading all that brings another question! depending on how you interpret those bye laws, it also seems that wild moorings contravene them, as any land owner where there is a wild mooring could claim your blocking his right of way, and as most use the bank for fishing and stuff probably trespass as well, Byelaw 57 Place of Mooring Subject to Byelaw 62(2) the master of a vessel: (a) shall ensure that the vessel is not anchored, moored, berthed or stopped in such a position or manner as to impede the clear and free passage of any other vessel, or otherwise to obstruct the navigation of a waterway or channel or the use of a right of way on the banks thereof; Mooring as suggested would clearly obstruct the legal right of way to the bank for the land owner or anyone wishing to pay to moor there.
  21. Thank you Maurice! You seem to get where I'm coming from! lets make one thing clear! I have no intention of ever doing it and never have, it's simply something I have wondered about and what could happen if you did it, I can't find anywhere that gives any information about it, or where you would stand legally if you did it, it dosn't seem to break any BA byelaws, so would it be a civil matter and how would they inforce it? from what I can see unless it's covered by BA byelaws or something the rangers have no power to do much, the river police couldn't do much as your not trespassing if your not on their land or tied to their post, I did say at the start it was a weird question and so far there's no real answer, If Peter, Maurice and Q can't tell me for sure it's turned into a good question, tomorrow I will mail the BA being carefull to explain it's hyperthetical and see what they say, this has got me really curious now,,
  22. So by mooring up at say Salhouse, if you pay to moor there your not obstructing a channel, but if you moor next to the bank on mudweights you are?? no wonder I'm more confused than ever,,
  23. If your moored up at a mooring spot but not actually touching or using their post or land, surely you couldn't be restricting the width, it's a hypothetical question and I wondered what would happen if you did it, it sort of came about because someone I know reversed into a spot at a well known Inn at Horning to turn around and the guy ran out with his little book to collect the mooring money, he looked pretty miffed when they drove out, so I wondered if he had just dropped his mudweight and stayed just off the quay what the position would be, part of me thinks it would be a civil matter as I can't find anything that says you couldn't do it,,
  24. There is no point to it! it was just something I thought about ages ago, and I found this: which is one of the reasons I asked, although you are still moored, your not moored on their land or quay heading and if you don't step on their land why do you need to pay? it's not something I would do I just wondered if there were rules and regs about it, I think Maurice and Bill might be right, but I can't find anything anywhere that says you can't do it, as it's private land surely it would be a civil matter and not under BA's control, MOORING. Mooring refers to any permanent structure to which a vessel may be secured. Examples include quays, wharfs, jetties, piers, anchor buoys, and mooring buoys. A ship is secured to a mooring to forestall free movement of the ship on the water. An anchor mooring fixes a vessel's position relative to a point on the bottom of a waterway without connecting the vessel to shore. As a verb, mooring refers to the act of attaching a vessel to a mooring.
  25. Maurice! my Cadet was five berth if you include the cockpit, even with four inside there was plenty of room, Branden, I owned a Freeman 23, though a bit on the narrow side there's still quite a bit of room in them as the rear cockpit is quite small on them giving you more room inside, we actually managed to sleep 3 adults and three kids on ours, was tight but good fun, personally out of all the other boats of similar size I'd go for the Freeman every time, parts are easy to get from Sheridans thought most you can find cheaper, there's a good owners club for help and info, the only downside might be that a lot of them are still petrol, my latest is petrol and it's no problem apart from lugging Jerry cans around, most 23's only have a 15gall tank, but unless your going out for weeks I found it was big enough,,
