  3. DG, Worked first time. Many thanks, I owe you a pint. Baz
  4. Please, please don't scoff, but it's been so long since I've put a picture onto the site, that I've totally forgotten how to do it, it must be an age thingy. Would some kind soul please explain the procedure to me in plain and simple terms, and I will be forever in your debt. Many thanks Baz
  5. I must admit,I didn't realize that there could be so many things that could possibly be done. I naturally thought that just a drop of anti-freeze placed in the appropriate pipe would be it, but as suggested, it obviously goes a lot deeper than that, so my request of help, has to me, proved to be a bit of an education, and for that, I thank you all. As for the offer of your help Mark, I fully appreciate it, but as I don't know when I can to my boat next, I'll have to decline, but thank you anyway, really good of you, maybe I should move up to Norfolk eh, one day, one day. Anyway, thanks to you all for the input, nice of you all. Baz
  6. Antares, you're a pal, I owe you one. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer what must seem a trivial request, many thanks Baz
  7. Hiya . I'm afraid it's got to be " in " the water. I did want to get it ashore this year, but circumstances didn't allow.
  8. As I have now retired, and therefore every penny counting, I have now decided to do most of my own servicing etc. I used to have a particular hire fleet operator do this for me, but as I said, every penny now counts, and as it is now getting colder, I would like to " winterise " my diesel engine. As I have never done this before, is there some kind soul out there, who could fully describe the procedure to me. The engine does have a calorifier attached to the cooling water. A weed filter is attached also, and a sea cock,of course. Any advice with be gratefully received. Many thanks Baz.
  9. Great bunch eh, to be proud of I'd say Baz
  10. Hiya Clive, looking good eh. Tell you what mate, I couldn't half do with a team of your cleaners to do some painting etc on my boat, and I'd put them at the top of my Christmas list, lol Well done Clive Baz
  11. Hiya Frank, Had a chat today with the makers of a Paint Stripper that's pretty good, and won't damage the Gelcoat, but guess what, he wasn't sure about it's potential to clear all the paint from the boat, so gave him up as a bad one, he didn't seem too genned up with the product. I think you might be right Frank, rub it right down and put another, more subdued colour on. Getting excited mate ? you know what tomorrow is............. Good luck with the day Frank. Baz
  12. Great HJ,many thanks for that. I've now book marked the store and will get in touch tomorrow for a chat. Much appreciated, PS. Glad you decided to stay with your boat, it looks a real belter. Baz
  13. Along the side of my boats cabin area, there is a painted stripe, and it's this painted stripe that I'd like to remove. Problem is, what do I use that will be kind to the gel coat/fiberglass beneath it. I did consider Nitromors, but this I believe will blister the gel coat. Has anybody had experience of this kind of paint removal. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Baz
  14. Silly question really, about bilge pumps. I do realize that water entering a boat is relative to the size of the hole it's coming through, but is there any sort of equation that's used to buying a new pump and float switch. I've been looking on a few sites, and come up with the Rule 1100 with a Rule Super switch. Any comments would be appreciated. Baz
  15. I think this has gone on long enough eh. The picture was taken early evening on Malthouse Broad, just round the corner from Ranworth. I was moored on the island, with the ducks. Good tries though. Baz
  16. Hiya Oldgit, The Brinks Sonata is one of 6 of the same type of boat. A "sporty" looking boat. My first thoughts are that it may be a bit small for your first trip, but it all depends on what suits you. When I started to hire ( a long time ago now ) we soon realized we liked a much bigger boat. If you think it may be a bit small for your needs, then I'm sure Brinks would be only too pleased to change it, if possible. As far as what to take, this is totally up to you, but, " Remember the Camera " and take hundreds of pictures, honestly, when you get home, you'll sit and look at them for hours every day. Hope this helps a tad. Baz
  17. Hiya Martin, I use 30lb braid down to an "up trace" of about 18ins long of 20lb wire, swivel, and then a wire hook trace about 18-20ins long, also of 20lb. I use two treble hooks of size 8. This rig is of course for dead baiting. If you want to lure fish, I use a wire lure trace directly to the braid through a strong swivel. Hope this helps Martin. Baz ps. Apologies for not answering before, but just seen your enquiry.
  18. Hiya Martin, Please be aware, that if you catch a Pike, and decide to 'hand' the fish up and out of the water, that means you put your fingers through the gill plates and lift gently, there will be a lure, if using lures, somewhere inside the mouth. The last thing you need is to put your fingers in, and in effect, grab the lure, which also bites, due to it's two treble hooks. You are now connected to a very angry fish indeed, and can't let it go. Please be extremely careful, and if possible, go with someone else, it's much safer all round. Baz
