  1. Ah - but he removed the bream, probably for his tea! I, on balance, prefer a nice bit of haddock from the Blofield chippie - and very nice it it was too!!!!!
  2. But thats what the Colchester group do!!!!! The only really good one was the Ship, run by the boys, but it did not have room for enough covers. Brilliant whilst it lasted!!!
  3. Not tried it yet, but The Stag in Salhouse looks like it would suit those looking for the higher end of the market. Trouble is that you can only see their menu on Faceache - that to me is a no no so I cannot even see if I could like it!!!! Cannot understand restaurants/pubs limiting their advertising to just Facebook - I suppose it doesn't matter if you have enough custom but it could show a lack of foresight. I don't think I am the only one to see it that way!!! Incidentally the fish restaurant can be booked up to 3 weeks in advance in busy times!!!!
  4. Thats nothing - after 20 years I really did know mine!!!
  5. I think Neil the reference to the Thurne moorings referred to those at the junction of the Thurne/Bure where there were extensive moorings moorings and that all happened several years ago
  6. Cheesey - over many long years, the death knell of the Broads has been "sounded" many many times and almost always in the more difficult economic times. Yet still the Brokers sell boats and still the visitors come!!!
  7. Quite probably the District Valuer! If you don't know what he/she does they advise on all public sector valuations. And with the greatest of respect, what actual qualifications do Forum Members have in lease negotiations? And don't bring up the Thurne Mouth moorings up - that was widely discussed at the time and the change, as far as I can recall. was due entirely to the landowner.
  8. It has been said before but its rarely the cost of the lease which is actually the issue but other factors, which can often come into play. Langley Dyke for example had no security of tenure and another unknown can be the ongoing cost of maintenance, and / or renewal. And not all landowners " play" fairly either - I can think of several cases on the Northern Rivers where moorings have been lost due the fact the landowner acted "unreasonably". Looking at other posts, I see you can now book Langley Dyke for up to 7 nights on their website - I doubt they will make £2000 pa from that which perhaps puts the BA offer in perspective. I have not moored at Polkeys for some time but my guess is that it is primarily sheet piling which can be pretty expensive to both maintain and renew if necessary - the Langley Dyke post covers that issue and that figure is now 5 years almost out of date. I accept this is BA's problem but it all comes out of tollpayers pockets eventually
  9. Yes I spotted that on the feed earlier - for some reason they seem to be struggling this year at Norwich although the surviving one looks well. Not sure if the parents are the same or whether one or the other is inexperienced, or just bad luck. The ones at Bath look pretty healthy though.
  10. P.S . There is little or no shelter behind the centre island, as that has very little growth behind which to shelter!! just go around the edges - you will find shelter somewhere!
  11. Having two mud weights, unless you are fishing, seems to totally miss the point and almost guarantees you will drag in a decent breeze - dont understand why you would want to be anything other than head to wind as this will be the lowest profile to the wind, if any, The most sensible comment comes from Vaughan - watch where the wind is coming from and just point the bows into the wind and keep going until you find shelter. You can go right up to the edge on the main Broad but if you are going down the main channel towards Gayes staithe it can be weedy towards the end if you go much outside the channel. I tend to hull the mud weight straight into the reeds if possible, and even if the wind changes 180degrees you are only going to be nestled into the reeds and come to no harm. As you say, on balance keep out of the area to the south of the southern row of posts - inside that area there are fish barriers and shallows, as well as a hard bottom in places useless for mud weighting. In all the years I have mud weighted, and I did it countless times, I think I dragged twice - once in Ranworth when a larger boat dragged onto me and then broke out my weight and then in Black Horse Broad when the wind got up to F 6/7 and I didnt want to go into the trees it was taking me!!!
  12. Norwich definitely has 3 chicks and another egg which just may be infertile. Just watched a rather gruesome feeding time!!! Bath certainly still has 4 hatched.
  13. Norwich has at least one chick so far, whilst Bath had 4 yesterday , although 1 looked a bit dodgy - lets hope its ok.
  14. Fancy going on a holiday on the river and worrying about missing the football - I would be more worried that I might miss a bittern flying nearby!!! Takes all sorts though, I accept!!!!!
  15. I seem to think that Richardsons have plans to turn the basin into a proper marina - seen some plans on here some months ago?
