  1. You are assuming that I was saying the figures are too high - no I was merely saying repeating any figure is speculation in that until we are further down the line, we just do not accurately know what the true cost is. For example are we able to strip out of the deaths figure those that have died of flu - every year a certain number die of flu. Are we assuming flu was not around this year? Neither am I trying to belittle whats happened or the cost but my guess is that 5 years on, we may be able to have a better idea of true numbers and more accurately, the cost - until then I would treat all figures with some suspicion - be they higher or lower!
  2. Chris - with respect those figures of the cost and the deaths are purely speculative! Someone is just guessing and you're just making it worse by passing it on.
  3. Don't think its Fleet Dyke - too many background trees for that methinks.
  4. Dear me - what a turn this thread took whilst I was on the boat!!! People lambasting Griff for driving too fast. discussing fisherman falling asleep on the job, and then some meaningless discussion on regulations and legislation - what a load of squit!! Roll on the time when you can start moaning about the BA - makes it more interesting!!
  5. P.S. Nice to see the old boat today!!!!!!
  6. Good to see the people of Great Yarmouth urging and pleading with people to stay away - thats fine by me its a dump anyway!!!! ( To be fair I know some people love it - trouble is they cannot have it both ways. I would have thought the very minimal risk is accepted just to get people to go to what was once proud seaside resort.)
  7. Of course you are right but remember that not everyone who catches it becomes seriously ill or dies - in reality its quite the opposite so lets look on the bright side and if you yourself are concerned stay indoors, or if you have other medical conditions, still take the necessary precautions. No one is going to make you do things you don't need to, or want to.
  8. At last - I agree with Pete about the BA. Having said that, it may have been better if they had appeared to have been more proactive, but I know it was happening behind the scenes! Someone tell the wildlife to go into hiding, the Margoletta will be warming up her engines!!!
  9. I am glad I can now do it officially - for what its worth I saw no reason not to do it as I felt it totally unreasonable and if my boat had been in a locked marina to which I had no access, I would be moving at the end of the year! Not that that would be very easy given the general shortage of moorings!!
  10. I think where we are today is that we can certainly visit our boat as long as we certainly meet distance criteria, and any marinas should facilitate this by opening, and I believe like Grendel, that you can actually use it - but not stay overnight as that introduces another concept. So to start with I shall clean it and anyone wanting exercise will be welcome to help apply polish and buff it off.....! And then I do need to operate the machinery for maintenance purposes - I also have a small mast for courtesy flags and burgees and which will now carry a small sail - about 3 sq.ft.!!!!!
  11. I think that it will be impossible to "exclude" private motor vessels surely? Otherwise the price of most aux yachts will rocket!!
  12. Not now though - you have to home by dark or else.....!!
  13. Asleep mainly!!!!!! And not just in the entrance - further in was a lovely cosy spot and that was nearly always occupied!
  14. Sorry ECIPA - where was that list from? Can you send me a link as i dont seem to be able to find it?
  15. To put things into perspective, you should be putting that figure against the total population of England and Wales and then applying a regional variation to get a more realistic figure - this why country to country comparisons are inappropriate as reporters are told time and time again, but thats irrelevant if you want to sell newspapers!
  16. Yes Ian, I agree but guess what the obstacle to more trains is? Similarly primary schools I guess, and rubbish tips (other than the hedge! ) (Sorry Mods thats political - must be careful. Slapped wrist!! )
  17. Interestingly the C&RT have NOT changed their guidance given on Monday - they make no mention of marinas. Just Sadly I feel this is a total waste of time. Boris seems incapable of making decisions and he is being guided by experts - trouble is there are now so many experts giving differing messages to the Govt, it is difficult to know which is either sensible or correct. The situation is being made worse by the unions, whats left of them now generally in the public sector, seeing the opportunity to poke at their chief tormentor and using the general fear of individuals to hinder the reversal of the lockdown process. Watch this space the latter will accelerate now they have tasted some success I fear and they will grab any opportunity to regain lost ground!!! As far as the BA are concerned lets see some initiative. Don't do what the BMF has done and asked permission - the answer to them was inevitable I am afraid, and it will be the same to the BA as well. Ultimately that will only make it worse for BA and perhaps it will cause them to fall on their sword brought on by their indecisions. If they don't do anything positive soon, you can kiss goodbye to next years funding and then they are further into the mire! ( and of course Andy the answer to the full trains is to run a few more of them but see above!!! )
  18. There are no gates to gain access - like many yards its wide open to the world!!
  19. PW - showing your age! Steve was knocking on a bit and had been around for some years. Had a bit to do with him over the years but generally quite helpful when push came to shove!!!
  20. Oh dear - no bloomin' hope then!!! They do have a new safety officer but she is unlikely to buck the trend is she!!!!
  21. The CRT say you can visit your boat - what about if you are in a marina? Did the CRT specifically ban you from visiting your boat even if it were in a marina - I cannot spot that in the wording of their statement? So now the CRT will have to perhaps reconsider their guidance - the trouble is I doubt whether anyone at DEFRA can spot the difference between a caravan park, or a marina! I will happily show them the precise difference if they so wish, and will spell it out here if necessary! People have no alternative but to stay in the park in their caravan, simply because the vans are not mobile and they share lots of facilities with each other. Many have clubrooms and some toilet blocks where people can intermingle but I don't think any of those issues affect the boating fraternity - unless you are sharing Mr Wallers bucket!! Most people in a marina want to go out and indeed do, they have there own toilets, including PW, and once out generally do not mingle now the pubs are shut! How on earth can my presence at a marina during the day, and going back in my bed at night, spread Covid 19 in any way whatsoever - I would like to think the BA would be saying this point exactly to Defra - but I guess that is really just too much too hope they would actually do anything to help boaters who pay their salaries!!!!
  22. But the BA won't go it alone and will do anything it seems to stop people using or visiting the damned things- if you can go on a paddleboard, canoe on them, or fish ( which you can't yet!) why can you not use your boat? Limit use to local people by all means and I promise not to stay on it overnight but by not allowing it, is totally nonsensical!! I knew they would get themselves into this hole but they would not listen - now look where its got them and they will continue to lose respect of even their most loyal supporters - its NOT the same as the CRT so the BA need to make their OWN minds up! I bet they chose the wrong path!!!!!!! Hire boats, sadly, need to be treated in a different class and until travel restrictions are relaxed a bit more, so do private owners living over say 100 miles away at least in the very short time ( sorry chaps!) but penalising the local private owner is wrong wrong wrong whichever way you look at it!!!!!! PW - where do I sign up?????
  23. I suppose you can almost justify the use of the buoys to exclude bigger boats accessing that area given that its difficult to get a larger boat through and it is a bit of a rabbit warren anyway BUT it does not preclude anyone from going in - perhaps it would be more sensible to put a notice up saying "Small boats and canoes only!" I grew up in that neck of the woods and that area was a well known haunt of the GYPHC launches!!!! (for obvious reasons!!! )
