  1. With all the recent activity on the forum, in the Now & Then thread, and others alike, where you are all converting old photo's into digital images. I thought it a good idea to go out and purchase a photo scanner. There are so many on the market it is very difficult to choose. With the wealth of experience, we have on this site, can anyone give me an idea on specs, makes, models, etc.. I should be looking at. I would mainly just be scanning either old photo's or negatives, if I still have them. It is only for personal use so I am not looking for anything to expensive, although reasonable quality is essential. Is it also possible to convert pictures from Super 8 cine film into a digital image. by that I mean take out singular pictures. Your advice and experience on such scanners would be much appreciated. You never know, I might even post up my child hood pictures from the broads. :-D
  2. A fascinating history of the Broads developing on this thread. Thanks Barry for sharing your past with us all. Would you have any photo's of the boat yards at Wayford?
  3. Thanks Paul Looks like I will need to upgrade from my 70-150mm to get anywhere close.
  4. Well done Paul, fantastic pictures. Unfortunately, I am like your friend, never prepared when an opportunity occurs. Mind you since our chat I do now ensure my camera is ready at all times when going down the river. Just my luck though, no good sightings. In fact I don't think I have seen an Otter this season. Just out of curiosity, what lens did you use to capture the Kingfisher?
  5. I think Jonny may have this one with Herbert Woods
  6. Hi Sandy & Bob We have a Garmin GPS72, it is nothing flash but suits our needs on the Broads. I mainly got it for it's large speed display and it's trip functions, although you also have compass, map and waypoint functions. You can also purchase it with a marine kit that includes a robust fixing bracket and cigar lighter type power lead which avoids burning out batteries. As far as accuracy of speed goes It is reliable enough for the BA Rangers as they use these as there main speedo. Col
  7. Hi Nigel It all depends if you have an onboard mains charging system. If you are unsure, most boat yards would be able to advise you. We have a Sterling 20 amp charging systems that charges 3 seperate banks of batteries, although currently it is only connected to 2 banks. As soon as we connect to shore power the Sterling charger takes over and keeps the batteries in peak condition. When we leave the boat for any period of time the batteries are continually being monitored and trickle charged as required. When on shore power we tend to use direct mains for TV, kettle, Microwave, Lighting etc.. although, with the charger on we can still run all 12 volts systems without the need to run the engine to charge the batteries. Our fridge is 12 volt only and we tend to leave it on most of the time knowing the charging system can handle the current drain without any affect on the batteries. Hope this helps Col
  8. It certainly is looking good jill, you must be so proud.
  9. Hi Steve, It looks lovely, and quiet, where are all the other boats??? May have to try and persuade Col that the French aren't all bad (That opinion is based on a couple trip through France by car and actually is directed more at motor way hotel staff than French people in general) Lou
  10. Fantastic pictures Clive, the colours are amazing.
  11. Closed Closed How disapointing, not the kind of service you expect from a Broads pub, we had planned to visit the Maltsters during the half term week later in the month, will give it a miss now. Last Christmas we went down to the Maltsters for a meal to find it closed. :x
  12. Hi Brian My prefered choice is the classic, they are available with both 80 & 160 gig hard drives, I think the touch screens are still very limited on size.
  13. Well done Mark for capturing the Otters on camara We have seen Otters on several occasssions, especially near Barton Broad going down to Irstead. But to date we have never managed to get them on camara.
  14. I live and die by my I Pod and I tunes account, Yes Brian, I have just downloaded version 8 and also the new safari software, this has a fantastic feature that automatically generates playlist based on a music track you select. This will always improve with time, as it also looks into other peoples accounts and music selections and makes recomendations for purchase. I now have copied all my CD's into my account which are paired with my I Pod. To date my music file is 24gb. Photos 12gb and via a jesterware account I also have downloaded 35gb of dvd's. This allows me to carry all this media with me everywhere I go, especially up to the boat so I can play them through both the radio and television. And of course I have access to all the above through my I Tunes account on my PC. :-D :-D Col
  15. Hi Simon I think you are underestimating your level of skill, I am sure there are many professionals out there that would be only to pleased to produce photos to the quality of pictures you have demonstrated in this thread. Excellent work simon. I now wish I had the time to join you at the weekend. Hopefully next time. Col
  16. Why don't they use them to pole-vault to the other side of the river, then they can use a shorter rod.
  17. I agree with Pete, Fineways at Wroxham provide an excellent service.
  18. Hi Mowjo I have tried all kinds of cleaners and polishes over the years for gel coat finishes, Have always found the oxidation returns very quickly. Last year I got talking to a fellow boater at Ranworth who's white gelcoat looked like new although his boat was nearly 20 years old. He suggested Collinites 920 fibreglass cleaner followed by Collinites heavy duty fleetwax. I purchase these products and polished our boat earlier this year and the shine is still holding. Please see link below for site to purchase products. well.http://www.shipshapenorfolkltd.co.uk/products.php?cat=3 Hope this helps
  19. Have noticed over the past week that most of the Moores Hire craft now have the Barns Brinkcraft logo on them, as well as Moores, does this mean they will still be trading under the moores name?
  20. Thanks for that Jonny, I have already spoken to the insurance company and the name has to be permanently marked, therefore, stick on decals are not an option. Col
