  1. But then mine was designed to pass under Potter Bridge 😫
  2. Enough for me.😁 My how selfish is that 😩
  3. What I do still find strange is after being on the boat for any length of time doing a maximum of 6mph driving on to generally the A149 and thinking gosh this is fast even when doing no where near the 50mph speed limit 😳
  4. I don't know what this is called but I think it's something that you simply get used to. I distinctly remember it on my first experience on a Ship in The Educational Cruise Ship ss Uganda when I went on her as a schoolboy in the mid 70's a very strange sensation when stepping ashore in Northern Spain after leaving Tilbury a few days earlier 😳 . I think it happened at subsequent ports of call but can't remember. I think it happened again on my first trip to sea in the late 70's as we had crossed from my joining port Copenhagen to Grangemouth in Scotland but I don't ever remember it since. But then I am one of those fortunate people that have never suffered from any form of motion sickness 😁👍😁
  5. That's where I bought my current mooring ropes last year. Can't remember how much they were but weren't expensive. IIRC it was £5 entry and parking was free.
  6. Quote from my first meteorology lecturer. "Every country in the World has a climate. Except Britain. We have weather "
  7. Shame it does not involve demolition of that blooming bridge. Can't believe they are going to re instate 2 way traffic. But then I support they will happen to take away the traffic lights 😫
  8. Good point MM. Maybe I will have a chat with The River Engineer. As you say if no one tells them that there is a problem then no one will know as I won't think the Patrol Boats are shallower draft than an average Broads Cruiser
  9. I think the main problem with the muddy paths was an ongoing water main leak that too ages to get on top of. The reason I mentioned dredging is that I have not been able to back up into the corners of the dyke due to going around. Also have felt the bottom while backing down the middle.
  10. I wonder if they are going to dredge the landward end of the dyke while they are at it. No mention in The M Notice 😳
  11. I know folk have different views on this but here is my 2p worth. I would stick with the good old 3 stranded Polypropylene ropes that most hire fleets use. They are fairly robust, cheap, and easy to splice. But best of all they float. This is fairly important as anything that does not float is liable to get caught in propellors or Bow Thrusters. How often have you seen boats trailing ropes in the water. My ropes are the same length as the boat and eye spliced at both ends. The inboard end is spliced with an eye that has to be placed over the cleat and will not come loose under normal circumstances but is fairly easy to remove when required. The other end has a slightly larger eye. This ensures that they are long enough to cope with the biggest tidal ranges and can be used as either springs or head/stern lines from the outboard side. And can also be easily adapted for either an alongside or stern tow. They are not the prettiest but I don't go for attractiveness over practicality. Having said that the current ones in use are white and pretty soft on the hands. Have not measured them but would guess at 12mm . This is for a 35' bathtub.
  12. It's also wise to, if possible, put a CO2 one on the floor when operating it as there is less chance of an electric shock due to static.
  13. The Troll app was mentioned on here some time ago and I took note of it which is how I got to know about it. It is still a work in progress but if I had a high air draft boat I would find it very useful. When they add Wroxham to it will be good for me. Due to daylight restrictions I had to do a high water passage through GTY so found it very useful then as the boats should have gone through at High Water but the tides had been pushed all over the place by high winds a few days before and the high tide was higher than usual.
  14. Didn't they used to split up the region and after the initial headlines then just have news from Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex before returning to the Weather Forecast?
  15. Not disputing what you are saying MM as I have heard this theory during my working life on The Thames. My question is then how does the current effect you if you are working at near maximum draft as I routinely did in both locations. I would always go with what the Mk 1 eyeball told me. Many people both in my professional life and my leisure life want to know WHY? I am happy with it just does 😁
  16. Naaaaa That's the swishing of the Kraken's tails.😁
  17. TBH , I don't know how it happens 😂
  18. No we get our News from our local area which is Norwich, my issue is that it is very much Norwich centric. Although on the evening in question the big story on the main news was the rouge police officer being sentenced for multiple sexual assaults which took up the first 15 minutes. Because this, I don't know what to call him on a family forum, came from Stevenage there was obviously a local aspect to it. But it was frustrating to see the items from the main broadcast repeated for the first 15 minutes of the local news.😩 The problem is probably more to do with what OBB says below your post.
  19. Which explains why we are advised to make a Yarmouth passing at low water slack which is 1 hour after low water at the Yacht Station. This is to avoid the strong currents. If you have a high air draft boat you are better transiting at actual low water as by 1 hour after you will already lost some clearance. Something I found out during a high water passage this January is that The Rangers have an app that tells them the actual bridge height in real time. I did not know this I thought that they told you the bridge height by phoning the Yacht Station the same as we can. We were approached by the SOB and as it was clear we were a private boat he simply asked what bridge height we needed. He then told us what it actually was. When I said I was using The Troll app he said he had an app with the actual height live. It was around 4" different to Troll. The good thing with Troll is that is shows the tidal curve for the previous tides so I knew that even though we may not be able to pass at actual high water the tide would drop away very quickly, which it did.
  20. I was commentating on just how poor our Local BBC news show Look East has become. Reading other locals comments I am not the only one who finds it poor. The discovery of a large bomb in the centre of one of our towns and the shutting off of major roads with the ensuing traffic chaos let alone the evacuation of a lot of people from the area warranted not a single mention on the 30 minute broadcast the day it happened.😣
  21. Will be a little warmer at least 👍
