  1. Sailed from WRC then onto Oulton Broad yacht station. All four boats moored on the floating pontoons. A spot of fishing n sailing. Some of us didn’t venture out watched film onboard. Today sailed at 0800 for Gelderstone village and the Wherry pub. 3 x Hr DTS playing darts. Then came the fun bit. Four astern full length of the dike - no problem! Now at Beccles for overnight, after dinner and we are in the pub yet again. There is no way this lot, me included will keep this pace up much longer Griff
  2. He appreciated the support - he gets his new dentures in a couple of weeks. Our overnight destination was The Dukes Head at Somerleyton but it was shut so we replanned for The Bell at St Olaves. Good night had by all. This morning proper high tide, river over topping the banks. Only 7ft under the bridge. Now underway for WRC Griff
  3. So, after having crewed up Friday evening , amazingly all crew in correct cabins on correct boats. Into Norada for the remainder of the evening. Sailed from H.W’s Saturday at 1045 for the Bridge Inn at Acle, we made it too. One or our group now renamed gnasher has had his whole top rack removed. Unbeknown to him we had arranged to show our support. He had not a clue until after the photo was taken
  4. 2018 Lads Week. The advance party have arrived some at Potter Heigham, some at Richo’s. ‘B.A’ underway with 8 x temporary crew onboard bound for Potter Heigham Griff
  5. Came from the western end at in the early hours. No problem, never saw one vehicle Griff
  6. but a small bag as having money doesn't mean you can shoot.. Agreed, but having money does give one the opportunity to spend more time practising Having very little disposable brass doesn't mean you can shoot either! Griff
  7. They do Fleet Dyke being one example. Fred I don't disbelieve you for a moment although I have never done it. I would however offer / guess / estimate (As I have no proof whatsoever) that the ratio of boats mooring on fishing platforms against anglers fishing form Ba moorings is somewhere in the region of 1-1000 I have in the past and will do so again make my own wild moorings, sometimes they get used by other craft then become 'Established' wild moorings Griff
  8. Sorry but I cannot accept that. If it were just here that he was held in "such scant regard" then I could accept your argument. But it is not. It is in other places too, with different membership. To me that suggests that the fault lies squarely in the office of the Blessed Authority's CEO. I agree with your post Paul I can back it up too, not just on other forums but also on the actual river banks / workplaces and the like. I talk to a fair few folk that live and work in and around the rivers, the good Dr from my own findings is indeed held in scant regard. The nickname for Yare house of 'Tampax Towers' is also well known. However the majority have nothing but respect for those at the actual coal face James Knight - Welcome onboard - And about time too. Good to have you here and for what it's worth you have my support. From what you have previously posted, even with the most biased eyes I could muster, I cannot in all fairness come to any other conclusion but to believe your statements 100% Griff P.S Marshy has gone a tad quiet eh?
  9. Lads Week, commencing this Friday - There ain't any amber lights on the river, * or examiners with biased attitude either. So today's practise driving test is already behind you. Come a fortnight or so and you will have cracked it. Griff * There are plenty of overhanging trees though on the Waveney . . . . . . . . . .
  10. I once went into a serious training programme to attempt a marathon, that would have been around 83-ish, Never did get to do it though as the RN, going to sea and the like kept getting in the way. I have no intention of brooding over that particular 'Ambition' not fulfilled. However I wish you the best in your efforts and have nothing but admiration / respect, and yes a tiny bit of jealousy for those that have the time / dedication to achieve such a feat Griff
  11. Well what a great day out that was. We exceeded the bag by 14 so ended up with 139 total, all partridge (french) bar two Pheasants By the final drive I had 14 so elected to not shoot the last drive but give my gun to a total novice who was there picking up with his dog for the day. Said novice has never held a shotgun before but was keen to do so, plus the peg I was on was at the end of the line, which made it easier for me to keep him safe. I was on his shoulder talking him through the exercise. He fired off 19 cartridges without achieving one hit which was understandable but he did enjoy it. I will in the near future get him down to my local clay ground. Can't really mention his name as he is one of the strikers for my beloved Donny Rovers (Alfie May - I never said that). Anyroadup where was I? - On completion of the shooting it was dinner in the farmhouse provided by the game keepers wife and very nice it was too. I couldn't take Macie dog as dogs / pickers were provided and my remit was to be chauffeured around and just shoot and enjoy the day I now have 8 x Partridge hanging outside on MrsG's hanging basket frames (She hates me doing that) they will be going down to Norfolk with me for the Lads week where I shall be producing roast partridge with all the trimmings on Saturday evening Griff
  12. Herewith from one of my mates that has lots of chrome plating and the like carried out on many motorbike restoration jobs. Said mate is also one of the Lads Week crew, I have known him for an age so his comments can be trusted:- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Griff, I use Prestige plating at Mexborough. Address: Unit 6, Cliff Street Industrial Estate, Mexborough S64 9HU Phone: 01709 577004 Beware they are not fast, currently have a up to 6 month return time! but they are the best. Alternatively I have used Bob Cooper at Coventry (cheaper and he does exhaust cleaning etc) again not very fast (although he will say he is.....he aint) Phone 01785-212878 or 02476-364004 Yours, Linden ------------------------------------------------------------- Hope that helps, Griff
  13. The same company does powder coating, I hope to be using them at the end of the year as I have volunteered to take the wheel off MTB102, get it cleaned up then powder coated and back to them - I like to help her out as and when I can do Griff
  14. I wouldn't know. I know that I have not bought plastic wads for ages now as I refuse to do so. It would be even better if the cartridge manufacturers would go back to producing cardboard / paper cases like they used to Griff
  15. Sorry no, but I know a man who will, I'll ask him when I see him which should be Friday, now only need to remember Edit - I have emailed him asking for details Griff
  16. Having missed the Donny game fair at the racecourse last Saturday, then missing most of the forenoon gathering at my local clay ground, (Had to drive up to Gourock and back to collect Mum-in-Law) tomorrow will be my first days game shooting of the season. 8 x guns, 125 bird day. Now the 'Wow' part as to why this sport is so expensive (At my level anyroadup) Tomorrow is a 'Pay Day' that is to say each individual gun pays for the days shooting. It is not my normal way of game shooting, that is once a fortnight on a syndicate shoot at my local farm each season. I hardly if ever partake in 'Pay Days' as the cost can sky rocket especially shooting with guns that are unfamiliar, it only takes just one gun to be a 'Wyat Earp', money no concern and it's painful and exceedingly annoying, as the 125 limit gets exceeded then it's £40:00 per bird plus vat split between the 8 x guns. So if just one selfish minted gun shoots ten extra birds, (Which is easily do-able) that's another £480:00 on top to pay. Tomorrow for the actual shoot, plus beaters, game keepers tip, breakfast (Dinner with drinks are included in the day) is . . . £600:00 and that is cheap nowadays for a days game shooting! On top of that it's a 'Schoolday' too so a days loss of earnings to boot Why am I doing it? - Simply, my Lad has organised it months ago and talked me into it, plus the guns I'm shooting alongside are all known to me as they make up our normal syndicate. Having said that, I don't intend to be doing another 'Pay Day' this season! Limitations on the shoot? Apart from no plastic wads and a theoretical bag limit of 125 - none. So I will be using my trusty Miroku 30" game gun with 30:5g No 6's fibre wads Yes I am of course looking forward to it (At those prices - I have to), the wx forecast is good too Griff
  17. That depends on which end of the gun you're at Griff
  18. I have a bolt action:410. Hardly use it nowadays. I would quite like a:410 o/u a/e at some stage. And a12g 3 x barrel too. Want want want Griff
  19. I think the problem is that the mooring signs clearly state that boats have priority over the fishermen. Sorry to disagree but I don't see that as a problem, more plain English in black and white, or crystal clear. Anglers (And I am one of them) are imho in a fortunate position to be able to use any Ba mooring free of charge 24/7 notwithstanding the close season. However, let me also be crystal and state the obvious. Ba moorings are provided by the Ba and paid for by the toll payers (Private AND hire) for . . . . yes, you have guessed it . . . BOATS, be they stinkies or those that cannot helm in a straight course So it should go without saying if an Angler sets his/her swim out on a Ba public mooring then he/she should be fully aware (As per the clearly written signs) he/she is there on a freebie, allowed be there but MUST give way to any craft wishing to moor, and do so willingly without issuing any verbal abuse. These days with cameras on phones etc any boat skipper should be videoing any abuse received and passing it on to the relevant authorities. Now then, on the odd occasion I have had to ask an Angler to move to allow me to moor up I have also offered them the use of 'B.A' to fish from onboard so I do try to meet them halfway but not if I get any verbal abuse. This is not a rant, just my take on it Griff
  20. Years ago now when Robin Hood airport was RAF Finningley, some of the married quarters displayed a box of ‘OMO’ in a window. Apparently it was to signify ‘Old Man Out’ Griff
  21. To a degree I’m the same when riding the mighty Tiger. To be seen is to be safer. Having said that there are still some drivers look straight through me. The Tiger is big, lights always on, bright paint and helmet but I sometimes think I have a so secret cloaking device makes me n Tiger invisible Griff
  22. To add to that my MrsG is neither a Granny or a Nanny, - Nope she is most definitely a 'Nanna' and is loving being one too Nanna - It's somewhat to do wi being from Jockland so I am informed Griff
