  1. Nice enjoyable read Bob. Glad you had a good time, and surprising how many peeps actually travel to the Broads by train. Those large aft cockpits can be very useful, especially if you have all the settees made up as beds, as they give a lot more living space. Anyway, glad all went well, and you`re coming back soon.
  2. Thanks Deebee., they will be much appreciated.
  3. If you think this thread is silly DON`T BOTHER READING IT AND CONTRIBUTING
  4. Exactly, it`s just one point i was trying to make above, as does Peters (JM) . I sometimes dispair at the fact that people still can`t see a 1 star as a pass, even though it`s not a 5 star. It comes back to what i sadi above, if it`s not fit to eat, because of por hygene, IT WILL NOT PASS AND IT WILL BE CLOSED SOWN UNTILL RECTIFIED, With 1 star, THE FOOD IS SAFE, SAFE TO EAT. And yes, i`l still eat at the Waveney too, just like the happy Buddah.
  5. Fabulous clips John, i`ve been sitting here watching them. I like the one of you passing what looks like a Hunters yacht down the Thurne, nicely done i must say. Whenever i come up to a yacht that is tacking , i often blow the horn, and point either side to ask the skipper which side to pass?. It`s polite, and costs nothing, so we can pass without incident. I also like the early morning clips, it really does show the rivers at their best, flat calm and like a mirror.
  6. I had a discussion with a guy at work who was an avid canoeist, or Kayaker (Kayakist?), and was talking about some of the narrow, but canoe navigable rivers down here in Dorset. He said it`s all to do with something called "Riparian Rites" whatever that may meen?. He did say you could canoe along the river, but as soon as you touch bottom for any reason, you could be found guilty of tresspass?.
  7. I always like to moor in a sheltered spot when the weather is bad, especially when it`s windy. Both Karen and i like to snuggle down in bed with the rain on the cabin top, it really gives you that fealing of being safe and secure. Nice tale Matt, and i hope you can get some close ups of Lightning while underway hint hint.
  8. To be fair though Iain, that was freak weather due to a major Atlantic storm pushing the tides up the English Channell, and around the tpo of Scotland and down the North Sea. It all converged on the east coast, and the Broadland rivers took a large part of it. That said, when we were on Lightning last November, we had gales and high tides. So high in fact, when we left Lightning on the Saturday, if i did`nt have my car parked beside the boat overnight, we would`nt have been able to walk to the car without getting our feet soaked.
  9. I think you`re STILL missing the point Keith. The very fact they are still open, obviously means the food is safe. It may not be as fancyful as a 5 star, but it IS SAFE, if it WAS`NT they`d close the place down imediately. I`m all for closing down eastery who`s standards are that bad the food si`nt safe, or is downright dangerous to eat, but to publically criticise an eastablishment because it only has one star is in my mind disgraceful. And as i` said above, i wonder how many people contributing to THIS thread have food WRONGLY stored in their fridges at home, and use the same sink for preparing food, AND washing up, or washing hands, AND do they have full stainless steel food preperation areas in their kitchens?. Now does that make my point, or more importantly, will those who criticise be honest enough and say where their failings are in the kitchen?.. And for anybody tempted to answer this post by saying they follow strict hygene rules EVERY time, remember, your boat whether owned or hired, only has 1 sink in the galley.
  10. Reminds me of October 2014. We took Lightning for the very first time, and had to contend with Beccles quay being under about 20-24" of water. We left half an hour before high water, and the tide was still comeing up.
  11. Hi Mark, please do. They look a bit far, but hopefully we can doctor them a bit. I saw these on Faceache too.
  12. One thing that nobody has thought of, it`s fine to publically humiliate a buisness with a stupid star rating, and say"i won`tgo in there, it`s only 1 or 2 star", yet i wonder just exactly how THEIR kitchen would rate if that same inspector did a check on it?. Several posts above prove my very point. If an eatery passes the hygene standards with 1 star, quite simply THEY`VE PAST, and that IS shouting, how much louder do you have to shout to make the bandwagon jumpers understand, the inspectors have PASSED IT. If it did`nt pass, it would be shut down imediately with a time limit to carry out improvements, or face continual closure. No i agree with Warp, leave the star game Michelin. I will say another thing, "The Happy Buddah" at Loddon, 1 star, been in there several times, and guess what, i`ve never had a bad meal from them, and never been ill afterwards either. My last point mike make some feel ill, and it`s the point i`m trying to make. A one time friend of mine was a trained chef, worked in a very eclusive quality restaurant in Kent, and was always picking his nose, and scratching his ****, WITHOUT washing his hands. Now just think about all those 5 star restaurants that have all the correct food seperation systems, storage systems, preperation and cooking systems. It all counts for NOTHING if their staff have extremely poor PERSONAL hygene standards. I hope i`ve made my point?. Oh, and if i fancy a Chinese when moored in Loddon, i`l still go to the Happy Buddah.
  13. The one thing that was missing, even though i have`nt watched it, is a panel of good motoring journo`s. Matt LeBlanc is an actor, Sabine Scmidt is a raer, and Chris Evans is a c..k. (edit if you need to) So how many high performance cars have the team road tested at high speeds, and for which car mags etc, their history is`nt cars. No, the best thing to do in my mind is scrap the rest of the series, and forget all about it, unless they bring back Clarkson and co .
  14. I don`t think you understand what i`m getting at Ian, i DO expect a place to be clean and tidy, and i DO expect all food should be cooked, stored, and prepared in the correct way, i don`t want to get food poisoning as much as anybody else, but star systems usually don`t tell the whole story. If as John, MM says, a place has complaints made against it, and it fails to come up to standards when visited by the relevent people, close the place down, don`t just give it 1 or 2 stars, by doing that, you`re condoning poor standards. If an eatery fails to come up to a minimum standard, close it down full stop.
  15. Our sundicate sometimes deals with Peachments, so it`s good to hear such excellent reviews. I always think you get ripped off being a boatowner, but with this in mind it puts peoples minds at ease.
  16. Yes, i agree, but we can do that at any time Alan. But what we can`t do is take pictures while underway of the outside, well not unless i get left on the bank anyway lol. Our website has not been running for long, so it`s still a bit in developement. Hopefully we can get a large gallery of pics on the inside, and of her equipment. All photo`s welcome people.................
  17. I think i`m in agreement with John on this one (Maurice M), How can people re-build a buisness if their trade is driven away by a lower grade than an equivalent around the corner. This is one reason why i NEVER look on trip advisor, and never take anybodies word for something. If i get a recommendation from someone, i`l give it a try and form my own opinion. If i`m happy with the food and service, i`l go back, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 star. I wonder how people would feel if the hire fleets had to go down the same route?. With all the recommendations for one yard we all know, that yard years ago was by far and large, the WORST yard on the Broads. Now however, after new ownership, and a better outlook on their buisness, they`re a yard to be happy to book with. And they did it WITHOUT any stupid star rating. Quoting Robin, his chips were bloody awful, so he won`t go back, but what if said establishment had a 4 or 5 star rating, but Robins chips were still rank?. It does happen, I`m well aware of the need for official hygene standards, and rather than let jobsworth beaurotwatts invent some form of system that means they can stay at the office, get the hygene inspectors to regularly go and visit those they continually get complaints about.
  18. Hi all, as most of you will know, we own a share in the Lightning syndicate?. We have a website for Lightning, but most (probably all) photo`s are of her when anchored or moored. Does anybody have any pictures of Lightning while underway, so we can put them on our site gallery?. I will point out, this is just the website for potential new owners to look at Lightning, and is not in any way used to for profit etc, so any photo`s you may send me, are for display only. If anybody DOES have any, and would be prepared to let us use them, please pm them to me, and i`l forward them to our chairman ? website builder. Many thanks ................................... Neil.
  19. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, NEVER EVER AGAIN. That show was absolute rubbish, and whoever dreamed up such crap purely to give someone a job should be shot. Love them or hate them, the original trio made top gear one the biggest selling procrammes around the world, and the BBC more money then most of the highly successful period dramas put together. The BBC have lost the plot, no matter what others think. They`re so far down the PC road, they were desperate to get rid of JC, but the others stood by their colleague, leaving the BBC as the biggest losers, or should that be US "license payers", as we`re the ones who are paying for Sundays farce. Pesonally, i think it will continue, as the BBC won`t admit to losing face. Now all we`ve got to do is try and incite the whole cast of Eastenders to punch the producers in the face, then hopefully they`ll pull the plug on that diabolical crap.
  20. Me thinks there could be something fishy going on here?. lolol.
  21. GOOD NEWS ONE AND ALL, I`ve done it, but not untill my brother showed me how to do it last night. In fairness to myself, i`m no tecky, but their website is not what i would call very easy to work out. I could explain where i was going wrong, and misunderstanding what they were getting at, but suffice to say, 2 crossings booked and payed for, so we can stay with my rapidly ailing dad before we go to Lightnings AGM, and the following week when we take her over. I have to say though, i think this is a joke, and has no doubt been done deliberately to confuse, and make extra revinue by way of bogus fines. I also don`t like the fact they charge you extra if you pay AFTER you cross, and there should be a payment office at the tunnell site so those that do not have internet can cross without penalty. As for ownership, it most certainly IS`NT in the public domain, as it was sold to a French consortium a few years back, so, no matter how much revinue the crossing makes, it will NEVER be free. Well, not unless it gets nationalised.
  22. "DEAD IN THE WATER" by Chris Crowther. It`s the new Chris Crowther book which is out now. I`ve got my copy reserved at Ramblers in Thurne, where Liz has several of them if anybody is interested?. They should be widely available around the Broads, as we bought a set of 4 from WRC 2 years ago.
  23. Hi Frank, the reason for going to Kent the night before was because we would`nt have to be up and around the M25 before the traffic builds up, as it`s a relatively short run from the tunnell to the M25. If we stay with Dad the night before, we`ll go through the Blackwall tunnell and up to the M11 that way. I`ve done it before, just takes a little longer.
  24. Yes, we are, aboard this little beaty She`s called Lightning, and we`ll be aboard from Saturday 25th for a week and a half. Unfortunately, we`ve got a wedding to go to the 3rd weekend, so will be coming home in the middle of the 2nd week. Also, with the 2 days we`ll be back to work in the 2nd week, we`ll be using those when we`re back up in November.
  25. I tried that Frank, posted some post codes and the search result was a blank white screen every time. To be honest, i`m not paying £10 for an account which then asks me to pay yet more to go through the tunnells. I think i`l end up just leaving here at 06,00 in the morning again. I did think it would be nice to see my ailing dad and stay with him the night before we come up, but they`ve made it such hassle for the casual user, i`d prefer to go into London and use the Blackwall tunnell. After that, it`s a pretty straightforward run to the M11. It`s just a bit quicker via the Dartford tunnell and M25. I`m not the only one who`s now refusing to use the Dartford tunnells and Bridge, several people i know in Kent now either don`t go through them anymore, or simply use Blackwall, it`s a bit longer in time, but much less hassle.
