  1. Welcome back guys, and I'm so glad you had a good time and made it safely
  2. I wish I had known that, as we were down visiting my brother at the weekend and had a trip to Mersea Island. Not too far from Tollesbury!
  3. Excellent shots Adam. So glad you had a great time ..... and got back safely!
  4. Blimey, and we thought a couple of feet range at WRC was big
  5. Hi Ian I recently bought (then sold) a 9.8hp 2-stroke Mercury with serial number 9008165. This was confirmed by Mercury to be a 1973 model. Yo ucould try emailing the chap who confirmed it for me at James.Hughes@barrus.co.uk.
  6. When I refitted Tranquil Breeze, jill, I got a Jabsco 25psi unit. These have a built in pressure sensor which prevents the pulsing of the water or the need for an accumulator to even out the water pressure. I think it cost me just over £100 but seems cheaper now. Not sure if this is the exact model, but it was certainly similar to this one http://www.marinescene.co.uk/product/1526/jabsco-par-max-2.9-(12volt)-pressurised-water-system-pump
  7. Glad you all made it safely. Sounds like a bit of a scary time there though Ian!
  8. So glad everything is going well for your guys (even if you have lost a cylinder Jonathan - how careless of you!).
  9. Hi Rob SOme of the impeller covers have a groove for the o ring, some don't, so use either the o ring or the paper gasket depending on what is suitable for your pump. The grease is to make sure everything is lubed up when you first start as there will be no water in the pump so the impeller will be running dry. If you have a weed filter on the top of the pump, you may like t ofill it up with water before starting for the first time to again help lubrication.
  10. I got away lightly with only 15 minutes late last week then! Good to hear you are all ready for your trip. Keep the commentary coming guys, and have a great time!
  11. Keep it going Suz, sounds like a great time is being had!
  12. Hi Ian It depends on what you want to run off it. Most leisure batteries for boats are around 110Ah. I wouldn't recommend it to start your engine though. If it's only for light duty (ie cabin lights etc) then it should be ok I would have thought.
  13. Thats a similar problem to the one I had with the original VHF in Serenity. I had a range of about 1/2 mile on high power even though I could receive fine. In the end a second hand DSC set, new coax and new antenna were fitted just so I knew every link in the chain was good. No problems now. I have heard that if water penetrates between the outer sheathing of the coax and the shielding inside it can cause all sorts or problems.
  14. I can see that now you've pointed it out! That's some mirror finish you got there Clive!
  15. NIce to see work still progressing Clive, even in the busy season. May I ask what the 4 wonky lines are in the first photo though? They look like someone has put some chines into the mould with an angle grinder whilst slightly inhebriated!
  16. Just incase it helps anyone, I have lifts booked at Haven Bridge for 13:30 on Friday (23rd) afternoon, and another for 16:00 on Sunday (25th) afternoon.
  17. Not anymore they're not Jonathan.....
  18. Is this the time someone should shout "EUREKA"? I might be totally wrong but I'm not sure the weight of water displaced exactly equals the weight of the boat. Some boat specs state a weight and also a displacement, which are normally different. I'm trying to think back to O Level physics, but I think the displacement is more about measuring volume isn't it? For example, a cube of lead will weigh different from a cube of gold the same size in the air. However, drop them in water, they will displace exactly the same volumn of water if they are the same physical size as they will both sink.
  19. I leave my drain plug out (which is on the inside!) to stop the rain water building up too much inside the dinghie. Have I ever left it out ? ..... Of course I bloody have As far as numpty questions, the only daft question is the one you DIDN'T ask! There'll be plenty from me soon about outboards as this numpty drove a round trip of 350 miles today to pick up a 9.8hp ebay purchase! Does it run? Haven't got the foggiest
  20. Lovely shots Carol. The gold finch is beautiful
  21. Yes, I've been having a play to Perry and I agree. I thought the noise reduction would be more complicated to use, but it still just the simple sliders, and seems to do a much better job. The lens correction is also very good (didn't realise how far out from true mine were ) and I also like the updated "feel" of the interface. Hmm looks like I might have to buy this version
  22. I watched a programme last night about the building of the newest Nuclear powered submarine at Barrow-in-Furness. The locals in the town are all issued Potassium Iodate tablets too, and warnings were given when they powered on the reactor for the first time in the new boat. It's the first one to be powered up for over 10 years and the locals were completely unfazed by it.
  23. I thought "Playing Paul" was some sort of yoofamism
  24. Keep going Gav. Lovely tale and some great photos too
