Looking For A 1970s Potter Heigham Chalet And A Riverside Map Of The Hoseasons Chalets Please.

Hi folks! Thanks once again for helping me with my previous Hoseasons Earlscroft/Dongarra queries. I just need information about one more property, please. The year was 1974 and the chalet was Arden, located on the right hand riverside bank at Potter Heigham. A scan from the brochure and a map of where it was located on the river would be great if anyone has it, please? Thank you - Chris

I've checked my 72 and 74 Hoseasons and plenty of houseboats but no chalets.

If Arden was with Hoseasons I presume by that date they were listing them in their separate Cottages brochure.

Hi - I think Arden was demolished last time I took a walk down there about 8 years ago.

"Arden" still exists as a River Thurne bungalow, although it is no longer let as a holiday bungalow.  It is located on the Martham riverbank above Potter Bridge.  However, as happens from time, and regrettably, this particular bungalow had a name change some years ago.  If you care to take a look at the River Thurne Tenants Association website, www.rtta.me.uk, you will find four pages of maps showing the location of the two hundred and twenty odd bungalows that still exist on the flood bank - the 'rhond', 'rond' or 'rand' - of the River Thurne.

In the past thirty years, two bungalows have burned down and two have been demolished in order to be completely rebuilt.

For anyone interested, copies of "The History of the River Thurne Bungalows" by Diana V Cornell (swmbo) occasionally appear on online auction sites.

Hi ExPilot. Thank you. I've had a look at the maps but still no wiser. I did have a copy of the riverside diagram but I can't find it.

I'm afraid, like many of our riverside properties, the appearance of many has changed dramatically.  The bungalow you are trying to find was significantly extended at its upriver elevation.  Previously the 'facilities' were in a shed beside the property.  At one time, 'Arden' was the home of the local water bailiff, Tom Cable.
