Hmm, I'm wondering if we should revise our plans to go up north when we are next on Moonlight Shadow (from Sat 30th Oct to 12th Nov). We were thinking of going north on Tuesday or Wednesday the first week, as after that slack water is too close to or after sunset. Unless we are prepared to do our first ever night nav  (possibly not a good idea given there's a new moon on the 4th), we won't be able to return south until Tuesday or Wednesday the following week. We need to get back to Brundall by Friday morning, so we would have a few days to make the passage back south.

What do people think? Should we be fine?

Go for it Helen and don’t forget that you could be a bit late crossing back south through Yarmouth as the airdraft with the roof and screen down is less than  7 feet.  With some autumnal colours, a cruise up The Ant and upper Bure would be really quite pleasant.

Tides don't look too good - you will be just after springs and the clocks will have changed but Wednesday looks doable especially if you moor Tuesday night at Stracey Arms  - think you could leave Stracey around 7.30, pass Yarmouth about 9. The tide with all this fresh water is bound still to be ebbing on the Bure, and you will catch the flood across Breydon. Probably even do similar if you moored at Stokesby - the tide will be ramping out down to Yarmouth!

But it is springs ish so there might be a reasonable flow to be mindful of!!

Height under the bridge about 5.30 this evening was still just over 6ft. I don’t know what tide state that would have been. Apart from a Marthams boat, the handful of boats moored at Hoveton St John’s were private boats.

Still about 6’3, maybe a little more around 13.00 today. Still no hireboats at the Hoveton moorings. Just a few fishermen and the occasional day boat. Beautiful warm sunshine if a little breezy. Rain forecast for the weekend.
