    Ubuntu

If it's an older slower pc the Ubuntu may also be a bit heavy. You should take a look at xbuntu for a lightweight Ubuntu.
  2. I didn't get to hear that but as reported on the news at 8 they played natural England's sound bite and then their spokesmans lake speech. Not balanced reporting at all.
  3. Windows releases follow a simple hit and miss rule. 1 hit 2 miss 3 hit 95 miss 98 hit ME miss XP hit (also big hit switching to NT) Vista miss 7 hit 8 miss they skipped 9 So as you can see 10 should be ok unless skipping 9 means that 10 is another lemon. So if you are on windows 7 stay where you are if you are on 8 then look to move. But consider waiting for 10.1. The reason upgrades are being offered for free these days is because Apple realised it suited their business model and started shipping free upgrades several years ago and Microsoft realised that over time Apple would actually undercut them in many consumers eyes. In 8 they tried to plaster a phone/tablet interface over the top of the original desktop without thinking about doing it in any kind of integrated or sympathetic way. So the apps in the new world are written in that new world and have very little or no integration with the old world. Apple didn't do anything so drastic instead thinking about how to bring some appropriate features in sympathetically. Used windows Linux and Apple for years personally prefer Apple for Unix underpinnings and less faff. Polly, I'll come over.
  4. Any basic dimensions or ot other details?

    Boat alarm

Can't beat the old tripwire and shotgun for raising alarm I say.
  6. If there is a fisherman in the spot then I'll use another mooring at the same place. If there is no other place on the side I want to moor then he's moving. I've never had a fisherman make any bones about this, as moving him is always my last option to moor at a location. My Grandad used to be an angler and I always remember him before talking to fishermen. This makes things go better as I approach them in a positive way like nothing's going to be an issue - and it isn't. So if you are going to approach someone about something they aren't going to like then think something positive first. It comes across.
  7. I had you in mind on that one In all seriousness it doesn't strike me as a good thing to have novice navigators with no VHF mixing it with container ships. Amended in light of comments
  8. You did and that's probably the best newbie advice for sailing having seen people try to learn the hard way...
  9. So what is a 'tad' in that scenario then?
  10. I have reversed Poly's old boat under sail to move backwards out of a mooring, I would not choose it as a tip for a newbie
  11. No you are right, there are some people out there who will look for any reason to set themselves apart from you be it private/hire, wafi/mafi, English/Scottish or any other thing. You only get one shot at this and life is too short to be missing out on good people just because they are on the other side of some imaginary line. Just because you step over some closed minded individuals line and get a bad response doesn't mean you should change your attitude, they missed out!

  13. You never told me you were a lad mum!
  14. Whoops - you guys aren't unionised are you?
  15. Touch?! You were lucky. When I were a lad we didn't even look for fear of old pa thrashing us with a broken shovel for getting fancy ideas.
  16. So that's a mere £235.67 per hour to Quo Vadis...
  17. We're just preying on your christian upbringings by moving in mysterious ways
  18. That's true but I would say that sailing boats are easier in many cases due to the deeper keel and that the skipper plans without reverse in mind? Hunters have some decent videos on the subject. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxCXNpHCfVk "There are several ways to moor a boot"
  19. Ok put the pitch forks down folks and grab the stakes.
  20. Thrusters can make quite an annoying noise although it's less annoying than the sound of banging. I think twin screwing has to be the best option.
  21. That you are going to use to see stuff in the cabin rather than pointing them outside right?
