  1. Goodness me! This is going to look the real deal.
  2. Thanks TH, it was enjoyable. Second maybe, but I had only half the points of the winner!
  3. The Dunes Cafe in Winterton is a favourite haunt, They run the Acle Bridge Cafe also, we must give it a try. I think it's a shame the project has foundered over costs, and probably location, the drawing looked brilliant.
  4. Griff is a big believer in reducing weight on a saily; witness removing the not too heavy outboard on a 4 ton boat on the 3RR
  5. We will be in the market for sanding serfs at some point no doubt, ‘genteel’ bacon sandwiches provided.
  6. Ah as you were, Deks Olje and caulking are not happy together. So varnish... that would be Brava from what I have seen.
  7. Actually I am questioning whether we can go on sanding and smoothing and go back to varnish as she was originally. .... or Deks Olje, even, it has lasted years on our dinghy.
  8. Come Spring, you may be invited to test putty techniques, Sam.
  9. Fine as long as a decent cut goes to NBN Slush Fund???
  10. But best above the waterline?
  11. You ain't seen nothing yet! I didn't post this one out of respect for people of a nervous disposition. This will get sanded tomorrow.
  12. Varnish off and first sanding done.
  13. Ahh NOT red in tone, someone had applied dye! Sanding revealed all.
  14. That was done to Brilliant in the 70s apparently the owners had business involvement with white paint!
  15. Yes probably will. It is very red though. Could be red cedar or Siberian red pine...
  16. Good news and less good news today. Good news, l thought there was a lot of filler in the cabin front..there is only a bit. Less good news a limited amount of rot in the tabernacle but nowhere worrying and fixable. News to ponder.. said cabin front is probably mahogany and a completely different colour from the sides. We were not planning to colour the varnish ... Anyway, today we heat stripped the port side, cabin, cockpit coaming and part of the cabin front; sanding tomorrow then on to the starboard for more of the same.
  17. Actually it was Grendel not Beowulf, just sayin’
  18. Where can the point be made yet again that keeping the navigation open sustains the landscape, so boating, subject to reducing diesel use, becomes ‘sustainable tourism’?
