  1. Hi All, Ok so my survey came through from the surveyor.. All good.. I called our insurance company at lunch and asked them what to do. They said... it's fully comprehensive anyway.. but I said I've only put the value as £1 it now needs to be at least increased to the value on the survey. The company clicked some buttons and said ok all done. No change of policy premium?! I'm with a well known insurance online company and the premium is £120 a year. I called Nav and gen who underwrite this company.. they quote £260 and ask for a copy of the survey!! I emailed them back saying .. thanks but how comes xxx.com who you underwrite charge me almost a third of this and don't want to see the survey??!. Nav and gen reply saying along the lines "xxx.com policy is fully com don't worry" but I smell something dodgy here..and I don't trust insurance companies (I used to work for one and I know what they are like). Either nav and gen are overpriced or xxx.com is cheap but the policy is going to be a pain if I need to claim. I want fully com (and I want to pay for it) for piece of mind as I haven't been working for the last 14 months to have problems if something goes wrong.. Any ideas what to do? Talking to the surveyor he said it will be about £200 a year for fully com. Please help Alan
  2. http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/norfolk_and_suffolk_broads_rebranded_to_broads_national_park_1_3928251 (can someone explain to me being slow.. is this good or bad?)
  3. I did get you back for "promising" the owners would address it within 7 days lol... Hence the numbers not quite straight!!
  4. What's happening Roy? Can you describe what you see?
  5. That looks better.. It seems like we maybe having problems with our pictures That's ones a bit better... but still probably smaller than usual...) I have no idea where this is though lol... (good game though...)
  6. That's too small for me Iain..!
  7. I actually enjoyed wayford bridge when we up in the summer, First time I've been in there though and will (hopefully) go back. I do understand it's not a traditional norfolk pub but I enjoyed it, it was different and different is interesting, to me at least! (although I did get wasted and can't remember too much !). Unfortunately we haven't been into the acle pub for many years as the last time I didn't fancy it.. (too many kids for me), However it would sad to see any of these close and hope they can get it sorted and save them. Good luck to them
  8. Mark.. Just guessing.. but we often moor in salhouse and "Adrian" appears to come and go so maybe he returns to "base" to restock up. I've not noticed one "down south" before, is there enough passing boats to supply? although I must admit whenever we noticed the one in salhouse we can't say no! If they also sold cold "drinks" i think that would be brilliant Good luck to the owners with the sale and hope to see it in the summer! (can't believe I'm thinking about ice cream when its like a freezer in this office).
  9. It does get expensive very quickly! The annoying thing you will find is the cost to do things on a boat a tad bigger isn't much more as you generally need the same products and just adding a bit more add's nothing to the cost! so restoring smaller boats is just as painful! At least you are doing it and I'm sure you will get lots of enjoyment from it when it's finished! I'd love to watch your progress too.. maybe think about doing a project page like mine?, even though you are close it's still interesting to watch the last bit, which is were you see the biggest transformation anyway (You may find it helpful to look back and see what you have achieved in such a short time). (Looks a good site VC! we have a couple of norman owners in the club here and they too enjoy the site).
  10. Hi Mark, Our first boat was a 19ft boat similar to yours and I paid £600 just for the canopy which to me was a fair price (We made the bar ourselves). £1k seems a bit expensive but I'm a tight git for 3rd parties and our prices here are a bit cheaper as we are away from the broads where prices are higher due to the demand. So it's probably a fair price. To reduce the cost down though you may want to think about making your own canopy bars. It's really easy and you can buy the straight bars and bends so no cutting. We made our swimdeck in a few hours using such things. We used this supplier: https://www.seascrew.com/browse.cfm?316-STAINLESS-STEEL-TUBE---TUBE-FITTINGS--BOAT-HANDRAILS&l=0000000031(Stainless) https://www.seascrew.com/browse.cfm?20MM-NYLON-TUBE-FITTINGS-FOR-BIMINI---CANOPY&l=0000000737 (Nylon) It may knock bring the price down a bit so maybe worth thinking about (it's easy to do, measure with the tallest of you standing underneath and give width of your palm above your head to make sure you have enough headroom). Thanks for your words on our project, glad to hear I've not bored you to sleep yet! Good luck,
  11. Hi Mark, Some of these smaller canopies can be a right pain to get hold of (it may just be a couple of people). I'd suggest keep trying to call them eventually they will hopefully pick up the phone. I just google search and 01942 883310 is the only number I can find. You may also want to try the Norman owners website (http://www.normanboats.co.uk/) I think they have a forum in there and I understand it has quite a following. Worse case you may find the larger players like Jeckels will hold patterns but I suspect that will be expensive. I'd also suggest doing a google search (upholsters near "me") you may find some local companies on nearby trading estates that will come out and measure for you. We did just this for our first boat. Good luck
  12. The results are intriguing.. Why on earth has over 60's been ignored? surely this is a large part of the broads user group.. I'm surprised by the results of the Hire boaters compared to private, it's almost like you would expect the opposite replies, it's almost like certain replies such as the over 60's have been censored to show more support to the BA for boat owners.. I highly doubt that private boaters (after reading threads on these forums) have such a high regard for the BA lol.. Perhaps next time, over 60's put your age as you feel it to make your views heard. But well done hire boaters lol
  13. ohh lol I didnt notice the key word there lol at least you had a break from driving there then! Catch you soon!
  14. Hi Neil, Sure we will be about the weekend. Pop in! Drop us a message the evening before just so we make sure we aren't wondering off though!
  15. Thanks David, are they big enough to use? They look a good idea and saves on counter top space Grace... I don't remember three legged haggis although I remember thinking a haggis was a hairy highland cow...
  16. Don't look too close though Iain... we need still to employ some sealant!
  17. Thanks Iain! You have a very good eye sight!! I can barely see the blue bit there, but yes it has a nice stainless cap on the plug.. i think it's already peeling off so wont last long! The club members do love to walk around as it's a bit different to the sailing boats.. our mudweight gets lots of attention too lol Wont be much longer now
  18. Thanks polly. We had more people aboard today (almost a queue outside). All seem impressed So little jobs today but it's nice to get these done: Dave was over early (can you spot the pattern) and by the time I got over he had finished off the shower pump.. it works (I had to cone off around the boat as it pumps sideways all over the walkway beside us (and the amount of people that come and look on a sunday someone was going to get wet!). He then installed the vented loop which we needed for the loo and thankfully after a few test flushes it's all working.. Swimdeck finished and I happily tested it by jumping on it lol.. I survived so it's strong enough! We did a bit more with the kitchen counter top, see pictured, looks good. I wasn't sure how to terminate it but dave had the idea to do an oak upstand and a countertop overhand above. It looks really good.. We've also done so it can be undone to allow access behind. A 12v ciggy lighter was put in for luck too. We also installed some led lighting in the large cupboard above the fridge which runs of a little switch so it's on when you open the door.. looks good and used up the last of the led strip. (I also did some of the wiring on this.. including soldering the wires and I only burnt myself once!). Finally we had a good tidy up although we need to run some bits to the tip really .. (next weekend).
  19. Thanks Iain and Mum.. We do eat out really when we are up there so it won't see much use. No space for a draining board mum, but we will get one of these (it's all been thought through); http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Worktop-Drainer-Tray-Sink-Draining-Board-Caravan-Kitchen-Motor-home-drainer-/151302007473
  20. Thanks Grace We aren't trying to make it look posh. promise Drink more wine!!
  21. Today was finally kitchen day. We collected the sink from the chandlers which came from germany! (it was a caravan version though), although it's a tad small we wouldn't have wanted anything bigger. The counter top from ikea is actually quite nice and it's a bit thinner. The top went in ok. Cutting the sink was a bit painful. We then went to try the cooker and it didn't quite fit so we just decided to take the cabinet out and make it up around it (It needs stainless steel surround anyway so it can be rustic). But it went in ok, we used the gimbals to allow for a coffee over breydon on a rough crossing! Finally we put the tap in and called it a day.. Not bad for a days work.. I like these days though where you see big changes.
  22. Sorry about that, that was my bad, I didn't quite appreciate the other uses of such word.
