  1. They have been closing at 3 on Fridays.
  2. Berney Arms Mill is looked after by English Heritage - don't know if thy actually own it, but if they do wouldn't the moorings belong to them too.
  3. Just spent a night prior to our week on Lightning at The Stables, Horsefen Road, Womack Water. Lovely clean accommodation in a bed sitting room with separate small kitchen and bathroom. You have use of the owner's courtyard to sit out when the weather is fine. Also off road parking. Two minutes walk from Womack Staithe and five minutes from the pub and village shops. Our host Rupert was friendly and very helpful. You can find The Stables on airbnb. It is normally a minimum of two nights but we were lucky as they had a single night available. An added bonus is that Rupert is a member of a family that used to own a very well respected boatyard in Wroxham so plenty to talk about with him.
  4. Just got back from two separate weeks on the Broads and didn't see anything to add to the above.
  5. Passed Berney moorings last Thursday and the two BA? mooring notices (nearer to the mill than to the pub) had an X shape over them formed out of red and white tape.

  11. I am trying to put together a list of electric posts. Not just where they are but the number of posts at each location. The ones I have listed are mainly from memory so could you kind people put me right on numbers and any I have missed. Dilham 1, Sutton Staithe 2, Irstead 1, Potter Heigham 2, Coltishall 2, Hoveton 2, Horning 2, Ranworth 2, Stokesby 1, Yarmouth YS ?, Norwich YS ?, Whitlingham 1, Bramerton 3, Rockland 1, Hardley 2 (got this off the BA website so I assume they mean the posts at the pontoon moorings just below Cantley), Reedham 2, Loddon 2, Burgh Castle 1, St Olaves 1, Somerleyton 2, Oulton YS several, Beccles YS several. 12. Thanks everybody for your replies. I will look into all suggestions. Hadn't thought of TheQ's idea of the 12v to 24v step up converter - will do some research on that one. Roy
  13. Thanks all for your prompt answers. Timbo. My previous Resmed cpap was 12 volts 35 watts and immediately tripped out a brand new 300 watt pure sine wave inverter. There must be something in what you say about cpaps possibly needing updating to work with an inverter. Can't go down that road as it is a NHS machine and it would be my responsibility if an update damaged it; the machine would cost nearly £1,000 to replace. Woodwose and Kingfishers Time. Our original inverter (fitted by Broom's 20 years ago) packed up last year. Our chairman managed to source the same model which had never been used as it was sat in somebody's house for years waiting to be fitted to an abandoned narrowboat project. When Broom's measured the output of the old one it did seem to draw 400 watts minimum, and the new one seems to be the same. Broom's seem confident that because it isn't in continual use (we switch it off when not being used) that the wiring is of sufficient gauge to be safe. Both of your comments now make me wary of trying to use the inverter overnight. Maxwellian. My Resmed apap is 24 volts and the guarantee is invalid if I use any other rechargeable battery pack other than their own, which unfortunately they want £400 for. I will just have to beg other users to share their electric post - I would be happy to refund their £1 and double it up with another card. We have a couple of different splitters onboard. Roy
  14. I use a Resmed Airsense 10 apap for sleep apnoea. The manufacturer states the power consumption as 22 watt hour which I presume is a rating at 230 volts. I would be grateful if somebody could explain to me what that would mean in relation to our 12 volt batteries. The apap is 24 volt with a 240 volt power supply so I have to use it through our inverter (which is quite an old 1600 watt model and seems to draw a minimum of 400 watts no matter what is plugged in to it). We have two dedicated 110 amp inverter batteries which are usually fully charged by the end of the day. I normally use the machine for up to 8 hours a night. Obviously if I can find a mooring with electric hook-up the only problem I have then is knowing how much money to put on the post. Roy
  15. They look pretty good value. Not sure about Hawaii though. £27,000 for a grp boat probably approaching 50 years old. Roy
  16. I remember chatting in the mid 60s to an old chap working at Sanderson's in Reedham. In those days the boatyards had a system where they would do minor repairs to boats from other boatyards from the same group - I think they issued the hirer with a chit to give to the yard on their return, possibly so some form of payment could be claimed - I'm sure Vaughan will know more about this. Anyway this old chap was complaining that every Saturday he spent as much time putting faults right on boats from a yard near Thorpe as he did on their own fleet.
  17. Can you still moor overnight there? Wasn't there something on the sign saying you had to ask the parish council before you could moor.
  18. Six miles south west of Manchester centre and not a spot of rain today.
  19. Does it really surprise anybody.
  20. Possibly dreamt this, but I have the feeling I remember that the Silver Jubilees were actually built in the early 60s on similar (but longer) lines to the Juliettes, then modernised to their present appearance for the 1977 season. Anybody remember if this actually happened and if so what was the class name.
  21. There's one post at Burgh Castle and another one (or two?) at the BA mooring just before St Olaves.
