  1. For sale on apolloduck: Price looks a little steep. Haven't the faintest idea how to add a link but here goes: http://apolloduck.net/467753 Roy
  2. Iain, did you notice they were per person prices. Blakes did this for a couple of seasons. They had cases of people booking one berth and getting a shock when they found out they had to pay for the hire cost of the whole boat. I think the brochure shown would be mid 60s as I remember cutting up a 1965 brochure (sacrilege) with that rope artwork, for a printing college project to design a brochure for the 1966 season. Roy
  3. Carbon monoxide is fractionally lighter than air. During daytime when people are moving about and doors/windows are open the movement of air will probably stop the CO from settling around the ceiling. While sleeping any CO leak will rise to the ceiling so CO detectors are probably best situated about a couple of feet above bunk height.
  4. Know what you mean Leo, I took a 35ft wide beam through the correct arch on my first trip on the Ouse; by the time that I was certain the stern had cleared the bridge the bow was pretty close to the bank. Roy
  5. Our hired Connoisseur Magnifique at Meze one evening in early May 2005 on our overnight mooring halfway across the Etang de Thau. The lighthouse really is necessary when the wind gets up. Roy
  6. We are on Lightning for a week from 20th August so will keep an eye out for you. Roy
  7. Hi Matt, Lightning has one engine battery, four domestic, two inverter/fridge and two bow thruster. We have two alternators which I think are both 125 amp. We are looking at making the fridge switchable between the domestic and inverter batteries because a couple of owners need to use the inverter overnight. regards Roy
  8. Pic attached (hopefully) from Hoseasons 1994 brochure. It's of Citation II but would think the layout would be similar if not the same. Roy
  9. Hi Alan How about a few years earlier . . . Billy Bean and his funny machine . . . absolutely brilliant, way ahead of its time. regards Roy
  10. Thanks for the link Alan, I will use the BA table next time we are down in August. regards Roy
  11. Hi Alan, Is that NBN information pages or Ranworth Breeze's. Can't find the info pages on NBN. Help on how to find them would be appreciated. regards Roy
  12. Not normally - but if she asked nicely.
  13. My wife thinks I'm a bit of an old woman - does that count?
  14. I think the person who suggested this was talking about in sleeping cabins; 18 inches above head height when you are lying on the bed.
  15. Last week on three occasions we were at the same moorings as older hire craft from both Stalham and Acle. Again we noticed something that we have seen in previous years; the Acle boats seem to be in much better condition externally than the Stalham craft of similar vintage.
  16. It has a light that flashes occasionally when working. I am pretty sure I checked that when I demounted it in March. Thanks for the warning and I will definitely check it next time I am board.
  17. Stopped at the Ferry for lunch on Friday (10th June). Moorings are almost finished. Large round wooden mooring posts - think they could have been a bit longer though. Six of us had a variety of baguettes. All very nice. Ate outside as it was a lovely day - plenty of seating. Ate there in the evening quiet a few times in the past and never been disappointed with the beer or the quality or quantity of the food. Roy
  18. Thanks Carol, brings back memories. Roy
  19. We have a Kiddie CO detector which you can lift off its backplate. In winter we sometimes run the Webasto on low all night if there are no boats nearby. I unmount the detector and take it into the bedroom and place it on a shelf about 18 inches above my head when sleeping. The reason I do this is because the Webasto is between the detectors normal position and the bedroom. Don't know if I am doing the right thing - anybody any thoughts. Roy
  20. Hi Neil, I was on Lightning last week (4th to 11th). Will be at the meeting next week. Looking forward to meeting you and Karen and other new owners we haven't met yet. We had really brilliant weather (apologies to owners who have been on board for the last few weeks) and Lightning ran really well. Brooms advised us to give the new engine a burst of full revs when possible, so we gave it a go across Breydon to arrive at GY YS at LWS. Yellow post to yellow post dead on 25 minutes. It was our second trip with the new engine and she passed the YS (when the Bure is still running off) at about 3 mph - both times at about three quarter revs. With the previous engine we had been down to 1 mph under similar conditions. Roy
  21. Hi Neil, We are on her next week. Heading north and looking to pass through Yarmouth at about 5.15 on Saturday. After that nothing planned, just taking each day as it comes. Roy

    Up North

A couple of years ago we passed through Yarmouth on Lightning at LWS (when the Bure is still running off) and struggled against the current. The next trip we left it until 30 minutes after LWS and found it easier (although it meant punching the incoming tide a little across Breydon) . This spring Lightning had a new 55hp Volvo engine (the original was a 42hp Perkins) and the passage at LWS wasn't a problem. We are on Lightning the week after you so have a good trip. Roy
  23. Steve, don't know about it not travelling well. My local in Manchester about 35 years ago was a Tetleys house. The beer was delivered from their brewery in Warrington and was very variable in quality. Whenever there was a dispute at the brewery then the beer was delivered from the Yorkshire brewery and was a much better pint. Roy
  24. We only occasionally plan to stop in Horning because of the difficulty in finding a mooring, so when we do it is usually the New Inn; good moorings and usually assisted by Gus. In the past the food though has been variable. Early in March there was room on the village staithe at lunch time so we took advantage and went into the Swan for a drink. We sat in the room to the right of the door. The two different beers we tried were not to our taste, one of them being completely flat. The room was tired to say the least, with a lot of dust and the furnishings were not the cleanest so we decided not to eat there. We walked down to the New Inn and had drinks. The pub and both toilets were fresh smelling and clean. We are back in early June so will definitely book a mooring at the New Inn and see what the food is like now. We have eaten in the Sutton Staithe many times over recent years and have always been happy with quality, price and portion size. When we were there in March four of us ate three different meals and two of them were not up to previous standards. I believe the pub is under new management so will give them the benefit of the doubt and eat there again in June and see how they do. Roy
