  1. The kits are notoriously unreliable, I passed three
  2. Colonoscopy is easier for men than women, we have less bends.
  3. Thank you for the correction, slow to get started today, that's another symptom !
  4. More to it than just checking your poo, it often begins with mild stomach discomfort, which comes and go's, how many of us have stomach ache on and off but think it will go away eventually, back ache, is another symptom, not bad but niggly, tiredness, easy to brush off if you are a busy person. Its easy to dismiss all the symptoms as everyday niggles, the problem is that the screening is not totally reliable and blood tests can miss it, the only reliable diagnosis is a colostomy which is not the most pleasant experience. Bowel cancer is a silent killer, most people put up with the mild ? symptoms until the cancer has spread to the liver and the lungs , even then you just feel a bit off colour. There are a lot of effective treatments out there but they are brutal on the body, far worse than the original illness, chemo and associated treatments can hold it back, but at a price. If you have the symptoms be insistent with your doctor, don't just settle for a blood test.
  5. The plan is to cover the hull and top structure in wood effect sticky back plastic, should look spot on!

  8. Doug, hope you’re being well looked after
  9. We have a crack team (I think that's the term?) descending on Martham diy shed tomorrow, mission, to get Judith M shipshape and in the water.
  10. It just won't work, nowhere to keep your motorbikes!
  11. We arrived at our boat late one evening during the autumn and didn't wake until about 8am, a group of fishermen turned up ready for a match on our moorings, unfortunately the peg marking was right by the stern of our boat, we lay in bed listening to the fishermen grumbling, one of the competitors said" its not a problem, just untie it and let it go" he looked a bit sheepish when I popped my head up. The man allotted to our mooring turned out to be very reasonable, but we have heard from boatyard staff that if there are many more complaints, then they will ban fishing from the moorings, they can be quite nasty when you want to come in and moor, I get fed up of explaining that we pay for the mooring and they don't.
  12. He's rubbish at varnishing anyway!
  13. Cheers Doug, nearly time to get the brushes out, as you won't have the same work load this year, let me know if you're getting bored. Happy New Year
  14. I got home from work on christmas eve to two official looking letters amongst the christmas cards, first one invited me to apply for my old age pension and the second was a reminder that my blue badge was about to expire, well merry christmas,I thought, where has your life gone? The thought of finishing work horrifies me, I work 6 days a week, short days admittedly (this is due to my health, hence the blue badge) but I love it, doesn't mean I have nothing to do outside of it, a wooden boat! and those motorbikes won't ride themselves. When I drive home from work, it never ceases to amaze me how many people cruise around the peak district at 20 mph, is the majority of the population early retired?
  15. Our god son works for mercedes in the development of electric motors, he is of the opinion that we are still ten years before they are a completely viable alternative, I think a lot depends on where you live, our boatyard have ordered an electric pick up, excellent idea for trips from the yard to the river, all on the flat. On the other hand where we live in the Peak District you can forget the manufacturers battery life predictions. Looking at the average speed on my car computer, it would appear to be around 28mph, no matter where I seem to go, this also makes a mockery of riding big, daft fast motorbikes, my 1948 AJS is more than capable of keeping up that average and 100 mpg, seems to me we have made little progress since 1948. Having said that, I still have a big, daft fast motorbike for those odd days when 28 mph just won't scratch the itch.
  16. I bought myself a new car a few months ago, its german, I was quite surprised to find it still had a sort of key( its kind of car shaped) being used to keyless entry I was quite shocked having to press a button to get in ,but to be honest I was more concerned as to the most important feature of all, heated seats, I cannot conceive of a car without them, and as an extra bonus, heated steering wheel
  17. We just use holy water, the budget is blown already!

    Old Woodies

Nice Doug, not many people lucky enough to have been the custodian of both. Varnish bill might be cheaper in future. I do like this one too.
  19. Over a 12 month period I drove about 20 different models of Audi, all courtesy cars, whilst mine was being repaired.
  20. Griff, I would consider some form of extended warranty, it is an Audi after all. Both Audis I owned made me cry.
  21. 100% success rate, next go might affect the stats!
  22. Regarding the bridge Doug, Don't forget Diane is very proficient now ( well one successful transit!) She would be more than willing to have a go!
