  1. Apparently the vat reduction is only applicable to fixed accommodation, therefore boats carry the full vat amount.
  2. Thought we got away with that!
  3. The first sign that this is an established event, its no longer the Beccles Wooden Boat Show its been abbreviated, BWBS. The " not to be missed" event on the Broads Well done as usual Dave
  4. Currently moored at horsey, no other boats, the whole staithe to ourselves, mooring fees now collected by the national trust, Ross is up and running with his river tours, still collects the fees on occasion
  5. Sounds like we will be leaving the bike in the van
  6. Probably venture through the bridge mid week, covering all eventualities, we will be in our camper with a motorcycle in the back.
  7. After all the hype, do we venture through the bridge this week.
  8. We have to accept the new normal, but fight against it in the longer term, I am more afraid of the new normal than the virus!
  9. Even at its busiest, the magic door at Potter Heigham ensures peace and tranquility, top side of it. we are very lucky to moor that side.
  10. Forget face masks, buy a stab jacket, more chance of getting stabbed now!
  11. I had a telephone consultation with my oncologist on Thursday with a view to starting treatment again, initially their thinking was that the epidemic would be in and out fairly quickly, they are now of the opinion that it is here to stay in one form or another, having said that she was of the opinion that the chances of catching it were now extremely small, excepting hospitals! and care homes, more than one national health worker has told me the same, now this I assume is more relevant to where I live and attend hospital, other areas I guess are different. I have now had my "severely at risk" classification reduced to just "at risk", this means I am now allowed to roam at will, not much change to recent activity then ! I refuse to be frightened of something as abstract as this disease, when the treatment for the disease I have very real experience of, has been halted for very vague reasoning. I trust the people treating me but would much rather fight the disease I know.
  12. Hello We keep our boat at Martham, I have looked at Tumblehome and it is a really nice boat for 2, I believe it is their most sought after cruiser, also very nice people to deal with.
  13. Thank you, a funny incident happened last summer, I decided to meet some friends at a classic bike meet near to home, but needed petrol on route, so had to go into town, a young girl driving a fiesta pulled out in front of me resulting in the inevitable, I bounced off the roof and landed n the road, as luck would have it I was so relaxed I got up without a scratch, neither bike nor car could say the same. Next day was chemo day, pictured them wheeling me out of A&E straight into the chemo ward.
  14. Just to add, I am a few years away from retirement and self employed, my doctor told me I would never work again and should look to winding up my business, I go in everyday, don't usually get much done and still have all my overheads etc to pay, but for piece of mind and sanity I do it. My wife is even further off retirement age, but finished to care for me, to say our income has been devastated is an understatement, having said that my personally funded expense account has had an easy time of it lately, which helps. You adapt and cope, you take the p**s out of the illness and anything else out there trying to harm you, its just a matter of getting on.
  15. Marshman, I couldn't agree more, two years ago I was diagnosed with an illness that has no happy ending, I am in the high risk category and advised by my consultant not even to leave the house. All treatment has ceased, I feel fairly good and refuse point blank to stay at home, don't get me wrong I don't take unnecessary risks but i want to enjoy a restricted life and sod stopping indoors, today the sun is shining, we will take out our camper van, go for a walk and then have something to eat with a different view before making our way back home when the sun has gone, little risk to either of us. I refuse to let the virus worry me, we have had to long worrying about the inevitable, every day is a gift, if I wake up we have a fighting chance. there's an old saying where live, " drink it whilst its fizzy"
  16. Sorry but the statistics bear it out, the worlds t**ts are immune to the disease, there will be no spike !
  17. Carefull griff, Tiger riding and shooting, all sounds a bit Colonianist to me!
  18. Was ours still afloat when you went passed, forgotten what it looks like .
  19. I for one, find it difficult to put the world to rights without the pubs being open.
  20. I believe they are doing a reasonable job, there was no manual to follow. I have my own business and thanks to the grants etc have at least a hope of a future, I also have cancer, apart from my treatment stopping on the grounds that I was more at risk from Covid the service I have received from the NHS has been brilliant. The upside of not having treatment is, I feel relatively well,I would love to live life to the full before my treatment starts again, and would take and have taken , thought through risks, to make my life as normal and enjoyable as possible, chemotherapy has robbed me of nearly two years, Covid is not taking anymore.
  21. We have a trip helicopter flying tourists, during summer weekends it flies over our house twice every half hour, drives me mad, on a still day I spell out p*ss off in newspaper on the lawn in large letters.
  22. other things I have learnt, my wife is incapable of closing drawers and cupboards, I have suggested that we have time to conduct some training but frankly she doesn't seem interested. How the perennially stupid seem immune to the disease Bicycles now seem to be able to go where they choose And how much I like the sound of motorcycles on a summers evening
  23. Well said Martin, I always thought we had a lot to be grateful for, this period has just reinforced that feeling.
  24. I will never take pubs for granted again !
