  1. High lodge in thetford forest. They go round a set of trails dedicated for segways. So at least nothing is coming towards you!!!! your not allowed to race though. as if anyone would?
  2. I know they have struggled with staff in the past. But not heard anything.
  3. Robin after Shaun has worked his magic on the rib, I am happy to go with him to do an essential river test on her and report back? Obviously to make sure there are no oil leaks, cooling is working and she ticks over nicely. Oh, and for the sheer hell of the blast!!!!
  4. I wish you would stop hogging all of Shaun's time!! He has had to do work on my boat as well! when my boat cane out a few years back for regular servicing NYA found anodes and drain plugs "glued in" because the threads had been stripped. That was by a local large boaty company.
  5. Just normal stuff really Had a nice leak on one of the drive leg oil seals which had to be replaced and had all the tappets adjusted. They only finished the last bits off today and as we are down anyway Shaun invited me along for the test. Im hoping the existing super chargers will be good enough if your around tomorrow pop by for a beer or brew John.
  6. Love it. Mine are green though. Must be easier to work on than red ones!! Yellow must be intermediate. apparently according to my wife there are 3 dipsticks. One for each engine and me! she isn't far wrong.
  7. I'd still double check it all gets done. Even the best sometimes miss something or simply don't read it
  8. Ray, I always make a list of exactly what I want done as part of a service. That way there is no room for error.
  9. I always thought am I wasting my money having my belts and impellers changed every year? the belts always look pretty good when they are changed but they get binned. I prefer to keep a full set of new ones on board in case of a failure. One of our resident engineers always cuts old belts up to save you relying on them!! I agree with him. id rather have them replaced in a controlled environment than the middle of the river as I don't do hundreds let alone thousands of hours each year, I did wonder about impellers. Well after a year and probably well less than 100 hrs of use I was glad they got changed. One had a slight split and the other had a vane almost completely off!! Would have been very expensive and a right royal pain if if it had split off. So, imho the cost of regular servicing can pay off in the long run. Each to their own and I am sure someone has run impellers for 10 yrs with no problems. But prevention is better than a new engine in my book ok I often run my engines quite fast compared to a 1.8 BMc, but prevention is better than failure in my book. So book in with your friendly local engineer or get the spanners out.
  10. Will be doing an engine test on the famous brundall quarter mile this week. Hoping to hit 30 knots all being well so cameras out. Yes it's a tease, but had to be done after Brooms caused a bit of a stir!
  11. Ha ha those poles are wasted. I could use them to grow my runners up. Would make the boats lighter too
  12. Great to see some sailing boats with, Errrr not a sail in sight!!! (Joke) Looks a bit too calm to have given you a decent push in the breeze? Looks lovely weather though. Thats a classic about stopping you crossing Brendon though
  13. I should be a reporter- this quote is amazing and I hope your wives/girlfriends/boyfriends see this!!! you'll havoc (nice pun) a cracking time. - "fleshpots of G Yarmouth." My friends and I are all looking forward to exploring what we hear is a beautiful place.
  14. Do they only issue you with a set when you first register? reminds me one of mine is faded on the dinghy!!!
  15. Thanks Charlie. I did find another article that quoted over 2ft expansion gaps on an 1800ft section. So mine was a bit OTT but that's a big old gap. Sounds like we have to put up with it then. Or someone invents trackless trains or we all cut the tops off our big boats.
  16. This is a great and simple explanation of how CWR cope with heat http://vinchad.blogspot.co.uk/2014/06/ever-wondered-why-continuously-welded.html?m=1
  17. A stupid question on rail design and these welded rails. And I am going to make up some numbers here to keep it simple. If a 60ft rail needs half an inch gap for expansion, does a welded rail of say 600ft need ten times this. So 5 inches using my figures? i assume the real world expansion distance is a lot less, but the principle of multiplication must surely work? Engineers, physicists and mathematicians fill your boots ?
  18. Why are we going down the road of fighting amongst ourselves on the size of our boats? A boat is a boat. We choose our boats to suit ourselves. And mine does require bridges to swing. But it was bought with its known limitations. The bridges not opening wasn't one of them, but then that's my stupid fault. If I really can't expect the bridges to work then I would have to reconsider where I choose to moor. I would rather not though. If the simple answer was put the summer rails on then why not? And the buses from where I live to Norwich are pretty busy. Sure not every bus is busy, but then not all the trains are either. And scrumpy makes a fair point about the roads. Didn't someone just spend a few million on the NDR? Oh that will be to get the cars off the road then by making it easier for them ?
  19. Would they have ever known? They might now if it gets noisier But a couple of sections were it gets a bit "lumpy" for a minute or 2 is that so bad? if they complain tell them the trains will be cancelled when it's hot so the bridges can stay open for boat traffic. I reckon they might just be swayed. That way it's a win win.
  20. Where there's a will there's a way as they say. ? It's not like that train belts along at 100mph!
  21. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Ferdan_Railway_Bridge last time I was in Egypt it was a lot hotter than reedham! I guess you can make them work
  22. It's amazing. 50 yrs ago(ish) we could put a man on the moon. Build a passenger plane that flew at twice the speed of sound and build the harrier jump jet. Yet 2018 and we still can't afford to build a bridge that can open on a hot day!!! Or can't be bothered to heres hoping for a cold summer.

Guys come on let's not get heated again please. And I am not taking sides. Life's too short. I personally don't care why Griff went through backwards, but if it helps calm things down maybe he would clarify his reasons? there is a fine line between showing off and good helmsmanship I guess and it probably becomes very emotive as to how you take it.
  24. Good luck Jon. We were in Wells today and it was pretty poor visibility up there as well. Sensible decision to wait for a clear passage and hopefully a bit of sun to warm things up.
  25. It is just my personal opinion, but I would totally avoid a pub that allowed vaping inside. No offence meant Steve and each to their own. I wont comment on dogs and kids, but I can confirm I am a miserable old git
