  1. Yes I mean the moorings (that used to be) near Commissioners Cut. Also if you look at the building on the left of the image which I assume you thought was the Yare Hotel at Brundall, that can also be seen on the modern images. Looking at my OS maps the 'altitude' at Brundall only reaches about 20m above sea level and then plateaus out whereas at Thorpe it reaches about 40m up Thunder Lane. Not sure what the long buildings are but maybe they are something to do with the old station yard? Hope this helps Liz
  2. I am not convinced its Brundall- could it be the view across to Thorpe from Whittlingham Meadows?
  3. Fantastic picture - where did you find the photo?
  4. Commissioners Cut or as I have always known it Whittlingham Meadows is good, except you have to like trains, they do go past pretty frequently!
  5. You put two of these old boats next to each other - boy do they gossip!
  6. HI JA - did you still have hiring humans on board then? I assume the men at Woods were very keen to get her back making money? Maybe someone that worked there would know - maybe Jon at Wayford knows someone?
  7. Bottom left could be the entrance to the North Walsham and Dilham Canal?
  8. We could have done with Raisena at Barton. Would make a really good radio mast and we might have had a decent phone signal. Not that we constantly want to be on our phones when at Barton but sometimes its quite important. If the signal had been better though I might have found out what the weather forecast was for Monday.......
  9. We walked from Berney Arms to Yarmouth after catching the train in December 2013 and not long after the surge. It was pretty obvious that the water had come over the top!!!!
  10. Pure bliss above the bridge, go on a high tide, check for shopping trolleys and just enjoy

WR has to own her own keep and hopefully this venture will work so all publicity and any word of mouth appreciated.
  12. Not sure about that but happy to be corrected?
  13. If Carol hasn't seen that photo she certainly will want to, it is the first old photo of Somerleyton I have ever seen and when we had the discussion in the autumn re the Haddiscoe photo, I searched and searched online for anything relating to Somerleyton in vain.
  14. And a view of an old Somerleyton Swing Bridge in the background?
  15. Found some more of Yare Nav in 1979 (the old albums have just been moved onto some new shelves so I can get to them for the first time in years, hence this flurry of photos). This batch were originally coloured but the colour has gone so I converted to grey scale. There is one of Evening Flight as well for no particular reason and a Coaster went through that day as well to add to the fun! I like the phrase when your BOATS plural are in it! Although I can't comment, just don't have as many or with such big masts!
  16. Whilst trying to find a Raisena photo - found one but also two Ladybird pictures - mid to late 70s at Thurne. The scan of Raisena was difficult as the print was stuck in an album close to the binding - hence the wave effect
  17. I do know, I will try and send a pm.
  18. Off topic but not ownership. A few weeks ago I went to view an old Broads film from the late 50s at the Norfolk film archive. Great shots from the Woods basin including my old boat but also footage of Ladybird sailing whilst in the hire fleet.
  19. I remember hearing one of Ladybird's masts breaking at Oulton Week late 70s. Loud noise, looked up broad and not nice viewing.
  20. Its only Saturday - weather forecast at the moment says it could be better but I suspect could be worse
  21. I did wonder why they were going through Wroxham Bridge yesterday afternoon! Having seen them go through Horning first. Message to self, must get a phone that takes decent photos!
  22. Heard and seen bittern, but seeing on Broads was a first last August near Ant mouth. Daughter 1 said, there's a heron...............then went no whow its a bittern. Swallowtail yes Otter yes Grass snake yes Barn owl yes Crane yes Chinese water deer swimming yes Water Rail only in the Lea Valley and has anyone ever seen a Purple Emperor butterfly whilst cruising the Broads - doesn't have to be recently either. Any info please PM
  23. When the houses adjacent to the Staithe were built in the early 70s on the old Banhams yard/Biscuit Row?, parking for the opposite Percival moorings was made available under the archway of the new housing. At that time it was just a few boats - now it is a large marina. I am not sure what parking the moorings have availabe or are advertised with being available? The problem is that those that moor there now or those that live in the village don't always know the history surrounding these situations.
  24. Yes discussion regarding access to drop off things on boats etc. eg Three Rivers. Maybe a point no one has mentioned -I can assume that some of the boatyards will be pretty annoyed when having to attend a breakdown, and the engineer has to walk a long distance with spare parts etc. Preventing long term parking yes - that is selfish, preventing short term parking for visitors to shops etc no and short sighted in my opinion.
