  1. Not wishing to add to any controversy but there are some areas of the country/areas of specific towns, maybe not relevant to the Norfolk Broads where the change of the diversity of the population has changed signficantly to the extent that pubs are unviable because no one drinks alcohol in that area................so they close so nothing to do with smoking. I for one am very happy that smoking is banned but I respect that people still don't agree
  2. Article in the Times today, saying how much some of the executives of these charities earn. The charity I support is very proud of the amount of money/income that is devoted entirely to conservation work............
  3. It might just depend on how busy WR is trying to earn a living to pay her bills. One of my biggest problems is getting away before a weekend as I work Fridays and it isn't an easy day to get cover due toto other staff commitments, hence why at Barton it is a mad dash up the A11 after work and amazingly we are usually on Barton with all three boats by 10-10.30. However this year things might change............so I am more optimistic but the offer of someone else taking her there if she is available would be great.
  4. WR would like to say to Janet Anne that she would love to come but her owner can't at the moment make any promises.
  5. I also thought that it was a different Cator involved with this section of the river - the same one that has Southgates and people that work for him there.

Please pass my best wishes to Vaughan and wish him all the best for Christmas - Liz Goodyear and Water Rail. Please ask him to tell me/you when when he is next in Norfolk as I would love to buy him a drink for old times sake.

  7. It is conceivable that said landowner will simply keep the moorings there and take mooring fees for himself? Neither locations would be suitable for long term moorings? (Edited to say just read an earlier post)
  8. That's more like it a sunny morning, none of that wet stuff! Did you have a frost overnight?
  9. Not my kind of day! Love the photos though..............
  10. This is one for Jamie Campbell if someone could alert him to the forum?
  11. Just to confuse matters WR built by Herbert Woods on the Thurne has always been B77 and all the other cruisers he built were Bs. Some of the yachts were definitely As..........
  12. The picture with B823 is the one posted by imtamping2 earlier today
  13. Is there any reason why one photo shows a reg number of B823 and the one on the bank D114?
  14. I have this photo taken by my brother in perhaps 1969 - not brilliant (could do with straightening up) but is a wherry and probably Sundog? Looks like the Wroxham area as well......
  15. Water Rail!!! Above Potter as well designed by Herbrt Woods to go through that bridge ...........:)

I had wondered about the fishermen along that stretch! Oh well :(
  17. That's the point - that was what we were told but in reality much longer if at all. (Except there are now very few real locals!)
  18. We were told when parents moved to Horning in 1970 it would take 20 years..............to be accepted as a local!

And who are in receipt of large sums of taxpayers money in the form of farming subsidies etc. Sadly the link I had to the Rural Payments agency list of beneficiaries has been changed - it was quite shocking. A large estate in Suffolk was in receipt of more money than Sandringham but still denied access to anyone to survey the wildlife on their estate!
  20. All along it up to Hertford - it's basically a canal with towpath - just a lot of cyclists at times There is also the New River Walk - the New River takes/took fresh water from Chadwell Springs to London (Islington) and was built in 1613. Have only walked sections but one day hope to walk the entire length in stages. There are also old bits of the New River!
  21. Patrick Barkham is a good writer. I got referred to in one of his books............... but not named!
  22. Walked past the Gazebos in Ware this morning. The reflections were superb.
  23. Thank you - I am happy now! (ps noticed an increase in postings 'somewhere else' and that might have been related?)

Surely the road from the Ferry to Woodbastwick is a public road or it is according to the OS Maps?
