I am sure I read a post saying that there were a lot of boats out at the moment, maybe in a parallel universe? Anyway, yesterday we brought two boats around from Hickling (Catfield) to Horning - an annual event at about the same time every year. Apart from the lovely spring day in ?2012 when we met several yachts above Potter as the weather was superb we usually see nothing. We were surprised yesterday to see several day launches above Potter but really surprised to see so many on the Thurne and Bure, many from Woods. Plus a spattering of cruisers. We also saw two BA launches which was a first on this trip Good news for businesses to be honest

Thanks Griff me or the boat?

I wouldn't want to look at Broadland Memories in depth on a mobile. With my butterfly website I just have one important page for sightings as a mirror of the PC page. I can't handle the small print. If I want to look at your website with all the pictures and text I want to enjoy it on the big screen, but I am a dinosaur

I will dig out the old photos, all black and white using a Box Brownie, might be awhile though...... we hired from Carrick on Shannon.

In 1965 we had a holiday on the Shannon, it was ............interesting. Lough Derg was an experience I never wish to repeat. The best bits were above Carrick on Shannon and an area where there were no rocks???? I have some really poor black and white photos....so I can't wait to see more blogs and footage from bgw

Congratulations - likewise I have three daughters! -
Hi Have you come across any wooden boats. In 1965 6 x Herbert Woods boats went to Ted Barrett's yard on the Grand Canal, all but one has survived. I understand that care for wooden boats isn't top priority? http://irishwaterwayshistory.com/about/irish-inland-waterways-vessels/wooden-boats-on-irish-inland-waterways/ Any info gratefully received Liz

Mine arrived the other day, my brother who has been paying for many more years gets his even earlier. I leave it to the last minute, I would rather keep the money in MY bank account than put it into the BA A/C early!

My father was a railway officer and was on the train that took the coffin to the station nearest Bladon. I went up with my mother and waited at Waterloo Station to watch the procession arrive and then saw my father sitting in the back carriage. I feel very proud to have been there and that my father was involved. Whether he was actually involved with the organisation of the train I don't know but he was the divisional manager for part of the route from Waterloo. I remember waiting for ages in the cold in my school uniform! Liz

The last two pictures from JM, I think were taken on the same day, despite one 'being coloured in' - just that yacht in the background has started to set sail. Same half decker in foreground.........and the reed lighter has just got a bit further.

Just bumping this up in case anyone can help - thanks

You nearly did the right thing, better than keeping it indoors, here is some advice from Butterfly Conservation. http://butterfly-conservation.org/3114-7563/christmas-surprises.html Hope that helps

I am hoping that AdamsGirl might occasionally look in despite being very busy at the moment, as I really do need her help on this one. I have recently found a link to this footage and in the contents is mentioned a Purple Emperor (butterfly). I really want to know whether this is a genuine sighting on the Broads and where it might have been filmed. If anyone knows if this footage is available on line somewhere, please let me know. http://www.greenparkimages.co.uk/details.asp?ID=19 In addition to boats I do have a minor interest if anyone is interested! http://www.dispar.org/reference.php?id=91 Liz

Arthur Ransome - The Big Six - Roaring Donkey?

I always felt it was above Potter - imagining it to be somewhere on the edge of the marsh in the Martham area - but not a specific pub that we would know? -
We still have milk delivered but he only comes three days a week but I do remember it being delivered by a horse drawn float I think Griff's wobbly dinghy quote is so very true!

Many of the coasters in the 60s were Everard ships with the ending 'ity'. I can remember hearing coasters coming along the Yare in the distance so if at Brundall Dyke or Rockland Dyke, Langley or Hardley, the next thing you knew was the water sucking out of the dyke and then when possible I would run to the end of the dyke to watch the coaster go past - pure magic, what a memory! Have some photos which I need to find

Looks like I had missed something!

http://www.broadlandyachtbrokers.co.uk/boats/151 http://www.broadlandyachtbrokers.co.uk/boats/152 Whilst wandering around the Internet just now, I found these two grand old ladies for sale - I do hope they go to a good home and stay on the Broads. As I came over the Postwick Flyover on Saturday I saw that two of the boats were out of their water.
