  1. How strange, I was only thinking of your username recently but I can’t remember why it came into mind!
  2. I will second that. The tide tables are very useful in that respect providing more of an idea of what heights can be expected at both low and high water.
  3. I notice from their website that Waveney Stardust is advertising short trips from Beccles on 1 July as part of the Beccles Charter Weekend. I have no idea how far their short trips take them but no doubt at some point the boat will encounter the swimmers. Just another bit of river traffic of course.
  4. Mel quoted consultations with ( from memory) the BA, RNLI, local council, Waveney River Trust, Beccles Charter Weekend, Beccles Harbour Master. I would have liked the NSBA included in that list.
  5. Me too. I’m sure he’ll have a laugh at it, hope so anyway.
  6. Sorry, I was referring to the two main posts she made as I assumed they were the ones Philosophical meant.
  7. There were 2, one Wednesday and one Thursday. Sorry to jump the gun mods.
  8. On a lighter note, would we have let JohnK become a member had we known he was going to ask all these questions?
  9. Closure is not planned hence the dangers.
  10. One of the things, IMHO, that comes across as unnecessarily aggressive is the use of capital letters to make a point. It has usually been considered as shouting. Personally I would rather see that point being made by the use of italics, bold or underlining. But that’s just my view. batrabill has made a good point about the insults (not quite sure I would have used that word) against the BA. As yet we don’t know what their stand is on the swim issue, hopefully we soon will. We have just assumed the Authority has happily gone along with it. After all, the first we knew about it was from an EDP article and I know full well what some of you think about Archant. I can’t comment as I am not local so have no idea. Going back to this thread, I have to agree wholeheartedly with rightsaidfred’s last post - sums it all up nicely.
  11. Once the BA have responded to any communications they receive, anti or pro, we will hopefully have the answers to some of the points raised. I can’t believe this was all signed off without rigorous examination of the idea but who knows? It might have seemed like such a good idea at the time that the rubber stamp came out straight away. I feel sure it won’t be too long before answers start appearing.
  12. Thank you JM. My thought was that people could refer to your letter whilst making their own comments, email to the BA would probably suit most. I certainly shall and I hope others who have the same feelings will also.
  13. Can I please ask this again? Jenny Morgan (Peter), I do think that more people will take this issue up with the BA if they can refer to the points raised in your communication. I hope those of you with strong ‘pro swim’ feelings will take the opportunity to put your views before the BA too.
  14. And there most definitely are helms that display that sort of behaviour. Thankfully not many!
  15. It’s a Faircraft (NBD) boat with Richardson’s logo on the bow.
  16. JM - when writing to the Authority, would you have any objection to reference being made to your communication or would you rather each individual compiles their own in full? I ask because you have covered all the salient points so well and I think more people might contact the BA if they are able to refer to something that covers everything. Just a thought. I can’t say I like the idea of a blockade, that’s a step too far IMO.
  17. Welcome from me too. Love the name ‘Drifter’, sums up what the Broads is all about.
  18. It was because you said you may wear your horn out in July, I took that to mean you would be on the Waveney. Perhaps offering your services as a safety vessel?
  19. Does that mean you are intending to be somewhere on the Waveney on 1 July?
  20. The BA doesn’t like swimming in the rivers so I doubt there are any bye laws. Probably no rules or regualtions at all. I’m sure somebody will tell us otherwise if there are.
  21. That’s a good point. So the swimmers could be on either side of the river, or both. Hmmm, even more interesting! The more I think about it, the more it appears like a bad idea.
  22. It may be that the WRC will benefit quite considerably due to the swim starting there. Some participants and their families may want accommodation there plus of course there is the day boat aspect. I wonder how many they will be able to hire out to people wanting to follow their relative or friend up the river all the way.
  23. Good idea, will do. Pity you are unable to answer the question, would have been quicker.
  24. This is something Mel Holland wrote in her first message. So swimmers will stick to the starboard (right) side of the river. Somebody seems to have forgotten that the ‘food and drink stops’, as they are called on the swim website, are on the opposite side of the river when heading towards Beccles. That means then that possibly up to 50 swimmers will suddenly change direction and head across the river. Or will they wait for oncoming or overtaking boats to pass? Somehow I don’t think so. Maybe one of the members who are keen on this happening could explain how this will work? (I am still assuming that the moorings which will be made available are North Cove and Worlingham, I can’t think of any others.)
