  1. There comes a point when all batteries have had enough and give up on you! We had to replace all five of ours the year before last, 4 domestics and 1 engine. I think all of them were about 9 years old and, from what I have read on the forum, that is probably the average lifespan. Back to Jayfire’s post. Lovely sunrise at Bramerton, is that heralding a good day today?
  2. I guess the river between WRC and Beccles will have to be closed to boats for the day. With 50 swimmers going off at a time it would surely be too dangerous to have boats around? What about day boat hire from Beccles too? The moorings at North Cove and Worlingham will be closed to boats as well. There is a lot of fishing along that stretch and with the long rods etc used these days, I could see problems. I can’t see how it could be managed without closing the river in its entirety.
  3. The talk of buckets earlier reminded me that Aldi sometimes sells collapsible buckets and bowls. I’m sure they’re available in camping shops too. I was a bit sceptical at first but tried one and they are great for boating. You could even have TWO as they take up so little room.
  4. Don’t tempt him, where there’s a will there’s a way and there is probably enough room on Indy’s deck!
  5. I doubt the fox is mortally wounded, he’ll live to fight another day! The hunter can now retire again, temporarily anyway. When all is said and done, this thread has probably served to clarify things to others who may have been surprised at the term NP being used in the green book.
  6. Paladin, nobody has criticised Brian Wilkins. In view of his standing within the BA, surely he would be expected to accept the use of the term ‘National Park’ where appropriate?
  7. What do you expect when the Chairman, Brian Wilkins, is a member of the Broads Authority and is Vice Chair of the Navigation Committee?
  8. I’m sure hirers would find the wheel very useful but it would have to be priced right I think.
  9. The BA tide booklet is useful as it also gives tide rise and fall information on a daily basis. A plethora of other information too. We keep one on the boat and also one at home for planning purposes.
  10. Great photos Jay, hope there will be lots more over the next few days. Keep ‘em coming please.
  11. Buy a new pristine one and you will look like a real newbie, the old tattered one means you are a true weathered and experienced (?) sailor.
  12. The information given under ‘Green book’ is a multitude of stuff Charlie, not BA moorings. The info that people might want, such as TostockTimonnier has indicated, is too varied to reproduce here otherwise I would have done. Not sure that I should anyway (?). Having said that, the info is there on the website for all to see and there is also a very useful list of Broads Contact details for emergencies and suchlike. Certainly worth a look.
  13. I see that the info in the green book is also available online, try here: http://www.thegreenbook.org.uk/ Look under Green Book on the left of the screen.
  14. Your best bet is probably to get hold of a copy of ‘the green book’ as published by the NSBA. It may not have everything you have quoted but certainly a lot of it. I know Norfolk Marine sells them but you get one anyway if you join the NSBA. Hope this helps.
  15. I can’t make up my mind if that’s all hands to the pubs or all hands to the pumps! Probably a bit of both.
  16. One use you haven’t mentioned Robin - floating round Indy whilst cleaning/inspecting the hull.
  17. If they intend expanding their hire fleet, they may need more moorings. Might this lead to a reduction in private moorings at Broom’s?
  18. Ooops, apologies! Whatever, I meant what I said in the rest of the post.
  19. oceandawn, I don’t think you ‘lose the conversations to simondo’, they are just different experiences or opinions and that’s what forum exchange is all about. You have encouraged some very worthwhile exchanges here I think. I hope things go your way and you achieve what you want. From what you have said your boat has been looked after and cherished and that will be obvious I’m sure to anyone looking seriously at it. Sadly we seldom get back what we shell out on our boats but that’s just the way it is and at least we all know that. Good luck.
  20. Or perhaps you are just going too fast!!
  21. Could all this possibly mean that things are at last taking a step in the right direction?
  22. I’ll give the wet dog cologne a miss, that’s one I can definitely do without!
  23. That is a lovely looking property, it would be a tragedy if it was lost.
  24. Those actually look like mobile (park) homes so presumably they could be moved? Great pics ECIPA, gives us a good idea of the problems. Thank you.
