  1. Our Friday started at two o’clock this morning. I woke to the sound of dripping water to find water pouring through the bathroom ceiling. Yep, burst pipe! Spent the next couple of hours mopping up and putting buckets in appropriate places. It had come through our bedroom ceiling but worse still it had found its way to the ground floor and was pouring through one of the ceiling light fittings in the lounge! Drying out now but I think it will take a while. Then eventually it will be out with the paint pots to try and make good. Not a good start to March for us.
  2. At least the skeleton staff won’t feel the cold.
  3. Are logs to be the alternative to sausages and burgers?
  4. How much did they get for a wherry?
  5. Ricardo, why do you have leave the forum? If you feel things are not going your way, maybe take a back seat for a while and chill. I’m sure there will come a time when someone will say they wish Ricardo was still a member because he could probably help sort out a problem. Things tend to blow over anyway and all returns to the status quo. All forums need different characters to stimulate good debate and you have a lot to offer. Socrates, the BG thread was read and appreciated by many. Don’t stop it please, there are so many who want to see the completion of the refurbishment.
  6. Better get one quick if you’re interested, bad news for Maplin’s today.
  7. Robin - I think if you said you were going to have a ham sandwich someone would ask why you weren’t having a cheese one!
  8. That woodburner looks lovely and toasty, just what is needed this weather.
  9. I used to work in Faversham in another life and the hop and malt smells pervaded all over the town. At times it was quite overpowering. It was rather nice having a brewery on the doorstep though!
  10. Yes, there are many positives. First and foremost I have always found the BA staff, rangers and all those we come into direct contact with, very helpful and fair. As has been said before, the BA can be split into two very different entities - those on high and those who are hands on and deal with the public in one way or another. (I would love to be a fly on the wall at some of the meetings involving all members of staff and see how the low react to the high so to speak. And vice versa of course.) I guess the information offices were closed due to finances but IMO that was a shame. The fact that there are a couple left open is a positive but there should be more and that’s a negative.
  11. Well I couldn’t even get a drink so it certainly wasn’t me!
  12. I typed in what I wanted to say but couldn’t see a ‘send’ button, where did I go wrong?
  13. Don’t most forums have their fair share of armchair admirals and folk blowing their own trumpets? As for this forum becoming the same as another one, I don’t believe that is at all possible. The three main forums are all very different, two seem to have the same few posters holding them together albeit the topics on all three can be very closely related. I tend to look at all Broads related online stuff to try and keep up to date, as well as getting a winter fix, and there is definitely (or should I say defiantly?) no better place than here for sharing things and getting information. Long may it continue and I truly hope Robin doesn’t vary his way of doing and sharing things and I also hope socrates will reconsider and not deny us the updates regarding BG.
  14. Well we are retired but we very much do it your way. That gives us time to do what we enjoy doing rather than worrying about whether or not we are doing things right. It really is ‘horses for courses’, I know a lot of boaters (like Robin) enjoy rolling up their shirtsleeves and getting stuck in, I’m sure there is a lot of fulfilment for many. It’s whatever floats your boat, quite literally.
  15. I dropped in for a swft one but couldn’t get my messages across! I have no idea why but gave up and went home. Nice to hear all the chat anyhow, I will give it another go next week and try harder. Must have been doing something wrong.
  16. That one being Fremlins I guess?
  17. I am so sad. I had a dentist appointment today but it has been cancelled as the dentist is snowed in at home. Oh calamity - not!! Trouble is, I will have to reschedule it.
  18. Maybe this will be the next move, start losing the ‘Broads Authority’ tag. Everything will state ‘Broads National Park’ then in a few years time everybody will have forgotten there ever was a BA. Oh no they won’t!!
  19. Hello, good evening and welcome as the one and only David Frost used to say. Plenty of knowledgeable folk on here if you need any info. Hope you enjoy the Broads, where are you bringing your boat from?
  20. Are there not two sorts of risk assessments, one for the boatyard that is hiring the boat out and the second for the hirer? ie what risk is the Boatyard taking hiring the boat to you and what risks are you taking whilst out on the water.
  21. JohnK, JM, Paladin, rightsaidfred, Batrabill et al. I, for one, have been grateful to read the differing views and I hope the sometimes heated exchanges have not caused any lasting friction. One thing we can be sure of, the issue of NP status will not be allowed to disappear by those who fear what will happen if full NP status is ever awarded. However, none of us are getting any younger and, if navigation is to remain protected, the ‘watch’ must be continued by those who hopefully have many boating years ahead of them. For that reason it is a good thing that these threads run and long debate follows as folk can then try and make up their own minds accordingly. Whichever side of the fence you are on, or even if you are sitting firmly on the middle of it, someone will be grateful for your input. If you find it all too boring, there is always the Today’s Jokes section.
  22. Bet I know a boatyard you won’t be going to if you intend to solo helm! There are still so many boats for you to do blogs on Robin, your public is waiting................. (Certainly would be an idea for Shiela to get in on the act too, his ‘n hers reviews - what a great idea Helen.)
  23. Keep up Grendel, there already is a Roy’s Garage! But your ideas of a hotel and boatyard might just complete the picture.
  24. I would eventually have done that having got one or two of the guys going. Trouble is engines and batteries take priority! And they know they can’t do without us anyway so the battle is won. Better keep this thread on track before we’re banned.
  25. I think Robin went back to his priorites Helen, either that or he felt on shaky ground.
