  1. Ricardo - you will probably be able to answer this. Is that little yellow boat the one that was moored at Riverside for a lot of last year? We moored there to shop at Morrison’s a number of times and each time the boat was there, moored permanently perhaps?
  2. A good point but perhaps a tad defeatist? We have two westies, 9 and 6. They make us walk twice a day, if we don’t take them I feel guilty! You certainly don’t have to be ultra fit to have a dog particularly if you have somewhere they can be exercised off the lead. A dog can be a wonderful companion to an elderly person.
  3. Jovril, you really have it made living so close. Lucky things! I hope you find what you want and can soon get out and enjoy the Broads.
  4. Jovril - have we put you off yet?
  5. Yes, it certainly can. Whilst my husband can tackle the odd disaster like electrics, pumps breaking down or on one occasion a snapped cable, that’s very much our limit. In the 9 years we have had the boat, there have been quite a few mishaps but our boatyard is great and has sorted the problems for us. They take care of servicing, winterising and all jobs associated with keeping the boat in good order even to the point of thoroughly cleaning it inside and out before we start our season in March each year. That may sound somewhat OTT but it means that we can enjoy being out on the water rather than spending time doing those things. Yes it does cost but to us it is well worth it. If we were younger it might be different, mobility (or a lack of!) does become a factor eventually.
  6. I only joined Facebook so I could look at Norfolk Broads related stuff, I ignore everything else. So, yes, you can be selective. As for NBN, for some strange reason I’ve never thought of the forum as social media. Daft I know as that’s exactly what it is!
  7. No, not that one. It’s an animated one, I’m sure I’ve seen it and used it before! Still, that one will do in the meantime thank you John. Suddenly found it!!!!
  8. I am sure JM is not trying to pooh pooh the idea of storage on a boat (I can’t find the evil grin smiley to insert here) but I would just point out that he lives in the area! When you travel almost 4 hours to get to your boat which you will be spending a few weeks on, you do need spare clothes, bedding, towels etc otherwise people begin to avoid you! This really does confirm the need to try and work out how you will be using the boat.
  9. We decided to buy after 30+ years of hiring and when we retired. Because of our ages, and having two dogs, we decided on a bathtub style. We only searched for one weekend and found a suitable 35’ boat which we purchased having had a good survey on it. We had looked at 30’ boats with one sleeping cabin but realised that the use we planned really needed more room for storage (we use the boat for 2/3/4 weeks at a time). I am glad we did make that decision as the ‘spare’ cabin is nothing more than a store room and something we could not do without now. From time to time it is used for guests but only at the expense of storage. We have had the boat for almost 9 years and never tire of being on the water. From stories I have heard and read, boat purchasing can be a mine field and you are so right to ask as many questions as you can think of. I think we were very lucky to stumble on a boat that has proved so right for us. We have spent a lot on it for various reasons, you need deep pockets to be a boat owner! I heartily agree with the suggestion of getting a survey done, the chance of a nasty surprise is greatly reduced if you do. Good luck with the search.
  10. Welcome to the forum Jovril, you have come to the right place for info - tons of it here. You say you are newbies but I guess that is for purchasing a boat, presumably you have hired for a while? Was there one particular boat style that you took to and would like to own or have you got open minds? As already stated, there are no stupid questions so just ask away. I hope you find something suitable and can start enjoying the Broads asap.
  11. Wish I could be 52 again! Three score years and ten this year, isn’t that supposed to be one’s ‘innings’?
  12. Gosh, if your brother had looked after her she might not have got mixed up with that Goldfinger chappie!
  13. It seems your wit has fallen on deaf ears Jayfire! Never mind, I understood it. Maybe we have the same warped sense of humour!
  14. Peggy Mount was a great actress, probably best known for the film ‘Sailor Beware’. Quite a scary character in that. I see the whole film is on you tube so you young ‘uns could get an idea of what some mums really were like!
  15. Happy New Year to all. I hope it is a healthy and prosperous one with plenty of and lots of or - whichever floats your boat! .
  16. I am not, nor ever shall be, in the habit of reporting misdemeanours unless they are adversely affecting me or other people. As the moorings were virtually empty being November, no harm was being done. If we all went off reporting every little thing to the BA, they would be spending too much time checking things out unnecessarily. I am sure you would agree with that Ricardo. I just used the event as an example of ‘rule bending’.
  17. I would just like to add here that in November I saw High Seas moored at the Hoveton moorings three days in a row, that is surely against the bye-laws. Of course people move from one location to another, isn’t that why the moorings are provided??
  18. Maybe he doesn’t get out on his boat/s enough!
  19. Yes, as long as they abide by the rules. Enough said.
  20. It seems Mr Weston spends a lot of his time moored at/near Wroxham so I’m really not surprised his boat gets hit quite frequently.
  21. There have been many, many good reviews for the Lion since you reopened so you can be sure you are on the right track. With everything you have planned, and the good reputation you already have, the revamped Lion will undoubtedly become as popular as the White Horse. Good luck and plenty of it for 2018.
  22. Does the Waters Edge really consider itself to be a pub? The old Woods End definitely was but I think the Waters Edge considers itself more of a restaurant. Having dogs myself, I too was disappointed that dogs are not allowed inside, ok in the nice weather as you can sit outside but not this time of year. When I have looked inside it gives me more of a restaurant feel than a pub so I can understand the dog ban. Having just looked at their website, they say they are a ‘Restaurant and Bar’ so I guess they are looking to be a bit more upmarket than a pub.
  23. They are good, I used one in my previous oven and also have one in the boat oven. Unfortunately the all singing all dancing oven I have at home now has a heating element in the floor so a liner can’t be used. Something to be aware of.
