  1. Here's some of our snowy village. It was Christmas 2011? Maybe 2012...
  2. Well here's a surprise. On my list of confirmed attendee's I have just added one 'Janet 3'. Now obviously all the Martham built Janet's would qualify but this one is still in hire! I shall let the hirer's introduce themselves as and when they are ready to but they are real woodie enthusiasts and really wanted to attend and so have found something appropriate to bring along. Top marks for effort chaps!
  3. If time is an issue we have spare experienced crew who can bring Water Rail down for you Liz - and return her after the weekend. That way you could attend on the weekend itself? Would love Water Rail to make it this year, her empty space on the quay was a reminder that she was sadly missing in 2015.
  4. We would love to have you Saily. It's a bit different to the old vwba because we show the boats. It was trialed last year and really worked because everyone got to meet each other while being shown around and so, I hope, nobody felt out of place. Of course, not every one is able to 'show'. Manxman, for example, last year has an Alsatian with toothache aboard so we all steered well clear!! There was no one representing the rag and sticks at Beccles last year although there are lots of other events and regattas for the river cruisers and so they are probably already busy enough! We are also hoping Brilliant will be there. I think you two, with what... 70 years between you will be really interesting to see. Have a look at your diary. If its workable we would love to have you
  5. Is plywood not from a tree then? Actually we hadn't even considered a cut off date because wooden broads cruiser production faded away in the early 70's so its sort of self policing. Just asking or just wondering if you can bring something along?
  6. Your bit of quay head already has your name on it Barry! As an aside, we believe Oulton Week will start on the Sunday (21st) so if you need to leave early then so be it. Fireworks will be on the bank holiday Monday (the 29th).
  7. Love to! Thrilled Nipper is going to be there
  8. Whilst we are all huddled in front of a candle trying to survive the winters elements, news has finally come through regarding next years Beccles Wooden Broads Cruiser Rally. The Beccles carnival committee et al, have, after much discussion, confirmed the dates for their gala weekend as August 20th – 21st 2016. Of course we have an automatic block booking for the north side of the yacht station and this is now all confirmed. So, after the brilliant success of our 2015 event the doors are thrown open to all that have a thirst for varnished wood and an eye for some of the most fabulous old woodies still touring the broads to come along once again and join in. We have 20 moorings available for the event this year and have booked them all from Thursday 18th through to Monday 22nd so that you can come early, miss the tides, and, if you are able, stay for the carnival Sunday and beyond. The event will consist of a few competitions along the way (optional and all a bit of fun of course) as well as the chance to pick your boat of the weekend after having a nose round some of those attending. Yes, we will be encouraging you all to open your boats up again so we can drool over dressers and pick at plate racks, marvel at engines and chat about cabin sides! This year we will have a few extra rally packs so that enthusiasts unable to bring their boat along will be able to take part as well. As last year, there is no charge for the event (just your mooring fee to pay) and you are not being asked to join a club. There is no commercial sponsorship. Its purely a gathering of enthusiasts and a celebration of great boats from some of the greatest builders on the broads. Don’t take too long in booking your place though. We expect demand to be high! And yes, with a bit of luck I will be there this year as well. How can you resist? Here's a reminder of last years event....
  9. Just noticed the 'Ford Jenkins' in the corner of your post card Peter. We had a family member who worked there and used to browse the archives upstairs when given the chance. She always said there was more history upstairs than old Jack Rose could have dreamed of! I wonder what happened to it all? Of course the shop was turned into one of the obligatory fast food places we now seem to need dozens of in every high street.
  10. These days you'd be more worried about snagging the net on the bottom chap! Am I the only one to imagine the river bottoms must look like a game of tic tac toe with all those keels carving their way back and forward through the putty
  11. I thought you saily types just used to hang the wine in a net off the transom to cool as you drifted
  12. Anyone else remember the 'O-so-kool' fridges? Now there was cutting edge technology! Isotherm eh? You've never had it so good... lol
  13. I remember WRC doing a very swish chicken and chips in a basket (and it was a real basket) way back in the early 70's. It was the talk of the area this new fangled food. What would they think of next!
  14. Oops, how'd that last piccy get in there?
  15. Used and abused eh? There are days when I feel quite abused I can tell you. Just look at this as an example... there I am with it all hanging out and someone points a camera in my direction. Hardly my best side is it? Then there's the mickey taking Previously in a past life I've been set on fire... ...and repaired by chimps.. And now they are threatening to reduce my chocolate ration in case I get too big to fit through the barn doors! I'll tell you Warp, I could fill an issue of Classic Boat Magazine! Its not all bad though, Some of my new bits are really coming together now... Gotta book some swimming lessons soon.
  16. Did I not make the list then?
  17. Now here's a thread I feel able to comment on!! Never been to a Costa though they are now doing drive throughs so its only a matter of time before there is a moor through available We favour Galaxy drinking chocolate around here. Its really nice and creamy and the squirty cream stays on top for ages if you make it thick enough For normal chocolate the range out there is huge and varied. I reckon we all have our personal favourites but the fun is in giving your taste buds a real work out and trying them all at least once to make sure you are making an informed choice. Please wish Frances our best.
  18. After what seemed like weeks of bah humbug oozing from north of the border it now feels like we are being modded by old Santa himself! Even the Christmas emoticons are getting a proper workout within his posts. I assume that when he is not on here he is busy getting the harness fitted to scoot ready for the 24th
  19. Just glancing around ebay - well it passes the time - and came across this. In the description it clearly states 'will soon be part of the BSS' Now I'm certainly not here to argue the merit of the device and am obviously interested in it or I wouldn't be looking etc etc, BUT, how can a manufacturer be aware of any such impending changes to the BSS that they can use the information in such a way? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301625827960?_trksid=p2047675.m570.l5999&_trkparms=gh1g%3DI301625827960.N36.S2.R2.TR12
