    Ahoy Orca

At the wildlife centre? :shocked How long have I been away for?
  2. You humans... You never hear us boats going on like that. Now where's that gorgeous Broom Captain when you need someone to spend a night beside
  3. I was told by 'someone in the know' that the reason Vulcan is doing more during her displays is because the air frame life is no longer an issue because its her last season flying. Up to now air frame stresses have been kept to the minimum possible whilst still allowing the plane to be seen in her true glory. Now the frame life is determined the pilots are able to enjoy her somewhat more than in the past. Of course that may well all be bull seeings as my source is something to do with Spitfires...
  4. I believe you will be fine on the 17th. I know the nights of the 14th and 15th are fully booked as its carnival weekend and there are a couple of boating events booked in as well but they will be well on their way by the Monday.
  5. The only offering I have that may be of use, should you find you have a decent hull to paint (and we all hope that is the case), then make sure you use an etch primer on all bare metal before moving on to whatever paint system you opt for. Paint will not stick to metal. It will stick to etch primer though and etch primers have an acid content that literally etches into the metal surface and grips. No etch and your nice new shiny paint could be left on the quayside, your fenders, flaking off as you travel along, you get the idea. Oh yes, my very best wishes for your project. There are lots of old boats still around purely because someone just went for it one day. Not everything in life needs to be ruled by your head or wallet.... After all, there are some that spend money to buy copious amounts of 'bait' and then just throw it in the water. At least you have something to look at for your hard earned wedge whether it ends up a boat or an ornament I jest of course....
  6. Is this not a perfect example of what The Broads is all about? Excellent
  7. Oh come on you lot! There is a very specific formula with regards to the ratio of weight of mud plug versus size of boat and, ultimately, strength of owner. Put simply, the perfect mudweight will be just too heavy for the boat owner to be able to lift from the river bed whilst being just too light to actually hold the boat when stuck in the mud in the first place! Some owners opt for a lighter mudweight to allow actual ability to lift said item. These people are usually observed giving the weight a full swing off the bow of their boat (usually followed by a big splash and a certain amount of splashback that needs to be dodged) in an effort to get it to hold better when it arrives in the putty at high speed. Of course they fail, but at least they gave it their best shot. Others have gone for the unliftable full weight in an effort to actually hold the boat in place! To compensate for this they have attached a nice winch to the lump and then are able to gracefully lower it into the water nice and gently. Of course the weight then descends to the river bed and sits on top of the mud rather than digging in and once again off we go across the broad. So, there you have it. If you can lift it its too light and if you cant its too heavy. I hope this has helped
  8. At £24 each way I bet they do!! We have a car leaving St Olaves on Saturday 18th for London area. Back to Norfolk on 25th and then again up and down the following week. And again on August 12th... you get the idea. Very happy to help
  9. Where are they? There are many broads boaters travelling back and forward from most parts of the country continously. Maybe someone could drop it off etc and save the high postage costs?
  10. there's always one.. lol
  11. thicker duvet and cuddle up together?
  12. Its all very technical isn't it! Anyone remember the days when you just used to point and press and then have a nice relax moored in the yacht station while Boots did their stuff? Of course they always came back with a red tint or with heads chopped off but those were the days eh...
  13. I certainly dont want to spoil this discussion but thats funny...
  14. I'm going to start a 'stick it' service. Those too far from their boats can send me their tax discs and tell me where to stick it.....
  15. Can I just point out that should you bring your boat to the system as a visitor you are able to buy a short visit toll which lasts either a week or a fortnight. You can buy these for up to four weeks licensing after which you have to buy the full years toll to continue to use your craft on the network. At the point of buying the years license you are able to offset the monies spent on the short term visitor licenses against the full years one. In the case of a rowing dinghy, if you have bought four different individual weeks short visit tolls, a refund would apply!! I agree with Senator's original proposal even though it does not affect me in any way. He is right in respect of being able to simply top up your toll contribution to the new vessel once the original has left the network. Make it so it can only be applied once a year to stop abuse and charge a £10 admin fee to facilitate it. Oh yeah, by the way, can we stop the rangers sticking notices on taxed boats just because their owners have not managed to dash out, immediately get in the car and drive 200 miles to stick the tax disc on the boat fast enough. Its the 21st century guys, you can see if the boats taxed or not electronically. The rest is starting to look like pure bloodymindedness
  16. I shall get my humans to give you a wave then.
  17. Congratulations from me as well Robin. Us woodies need enthusiastic owners who are understanding of our needs so that our futures are secure. BA is a very lucky boat to have such a good group of people including Griff and yourself within her membership. Will we be seeing you at Beccles in August?
  18. I'd raid Timage. They have an online catalogue and a decent range of such items. And yes, a warm welcome from me
  19. My engine manual suggests either a straight 30 or a multigrade 20/50. Dont forget that when many of our BMC's were being built multigrade oils were readily available and so would be included in the recommended list. A multigrade will perform better across the temperature ranges whereas a single grade may not offer full protection at the extremes of temperatures but will perform better at the optimum running temperature. More modern oils, especially the synthetics and semi synthetics, will have a higher detergent content which ensures clean modern engines but may not be as wise in older units. Just a good old drop of something not too technical and we are happy. Here's my new engine, do you reckon the rangers will be able to keep up? :naughty:
  20. Yes, of course she can come. And by sea eh? Lucky old Morn
  21. Was this the 'bath with a friend' summer of '76 young Iain?
  22. At least they managed to 'reunite' this drunken group with their cars.... Did we not finance a very nice shiny boat to patrol this area and make it safer? Seems to me there have been more boats stuck on the putty this year than ever! :naughty:
  23. Sorry chaps, I just aint sitting on Iain's knee... no matter how much choccy is involved
