  1. By the way, if anyone knows where any of the following are - or what happened to them, we would love to hear from you. Falling Leaves or Emerald (both Newson Boats) or Lady Miranda (Coral Craft). Willing to trade chocolate for any help.....
  2. Aha! Found some piccys.... brace yourselves! Years of neglect had not been kind to her and shortly after we found her this happened Every wooden boat owners nightmare I'm sure you will agree. She had got caught up during a gale and the following high tide had done for her. We were very lucky. We set up pumps, caught the tide and she came up like a cork! A few months later and we took over ownership, made some frames inside to help the old girl hold together and very carefully lifted her out and onto a lorry. She is now awaiting restoration and is realistically way to far gone to be even considered as viable but we will give her our best shot.
  3. And I was originally a 1960 Herby Woods 'Highlight' class. There were 6 of which 2 survive. Me (originally Highlight 6) and Highlight 5 currently in Marthams diy shed but also due afloat for 2016
  4. We have probably the last surviving Eagle class from Leo Robinsons (built late 1920's) but its a few years away from being classed 'afloat'!
  5. Oh I do hope so.... Spar Grocers? Isn't a Spar something those Saily types use? I do hope I am not about to find out that spars are made chocolate and nobody has told me. I could get to really love the rag and stick brigade in the new year if its true you know My very best wishes to you all for the new year. Only another hour or so and I can turn my NBN calendar round and day dream away with the superb piccys. Have a happy 2016, see you on the river!
  6. We have no room to talk though. Took a family members car in for mot and the tester mentions that the indicators are not working. "Oh yes" she says, "been like it for months. I never used them that much anyway"!! (Ford KA by the way)
  7. All BMW's are now being fitted with indicators. They have secured stocks from the Audi production line as Audi no longer fit them....
  8. And a warm welcome from me Sir! If there was ever a thread destined to send forumites up their loft ladders in search of old pictures and memoirs then this is it! I will be excitedly looking forward to reading all about the Broads from a bygone age.
  9. We had a boat there last year! Ok it may have been hidden out the way but we are working very hard to rectify the situation in 2016. Really look forward to seeing you and Jax again chap and having another drool over the stunning Missouri Star.
  10. Lets hope its the only thing they are not good at A chap on this forum is currently asking fellow members what they would like to see in a pub should he open one. That's called market research. He is listening intently to each and every comment so that his investment would be a success. If I was to put together a boat for use on Breydon I would ask the people with experience of Breydon what was needed. Boat yards, boat owners, salty sea dogs with years of experience of the water, the RNLI and Coastguard. Then I would provide it. To my mind the safest thing we could do to Breydon would be to double up on the posts that mark the channel. Not only would that stop a large number of the running aground problems it would also mean that anyone breaking down would have double the chance of getting a line round a post on their way past... And, if I was in charge of patrolling I would maybe base my shifts around the tides rather than office hours. Why would we send a boat out mid afternoon to sit and wait when the mass exodus was at first light is beyond me.
  11. I wasn't going to mention it Grace in case it was just boats that had a nervous reaction to it..
  12. Surely 3/4's a woodie? Half the outside and all the inside... Chameleon's berth is reserved Mike.
  13. Of course someone may follow Mark and Lynsey,s example and hire Water Rail Liz. Then you'll have to bring your tent instead!!
  14. Bah humbugs.... they just ain't as nice as chocolates Happy Christmas you lot! Between you all you provide a much needed link to a place we all love and miss when we can't be there. From tales of trips and holidays to technical tips, this place is worth its weigh in cadburys... well almost. And happy hogmany to the pesky one
  15. Ooooh.... and you live so close as well.
  16. And was bought in a glass jar from the local chemists Iain. Petrol stations were only just being built back then. But of course you'd know all that old chap... I remember you collecting your first hire boat as well. You were what... only just past middle aged? Happy Christmas you little tyke
  17. A decent pint of red diesel for me every time. I remember the days when it was duty free... never left a nasty taste in those days
  18. Cucumber Smelts.... Little fish you fried that mildly tasted of cucumber. No idea what they called if thats not the right name for them!
  19. Is no thread safe from you lot? If I was talking about mooring lines it'd end up as bondage! And as for stern glands.. just don't go there! Humans eh.
  20. Funny you should say that... We have a family member born with a heart condition and so since she was born we have always supported the British Heart Foundation. In a recent charity bag collection they had so much stuff that the local shop could not cope and so they took it all to the dump by the transit van load, still in the Heart Foundation bags, unopened, just as they came off your doorsteps. And they were classed as trade waste so had to go on the weighbridge and pay!! We were disgusted with them. Even if they had sent the clothes as rags they'd have got 50p a kilo for them... How do I know this? The waste site manager is a customer of ours.
