  1. If you look at Adnams Girls picture of 'Sirdar' the decks are level with the quayheading. Agreed, we don't know the state of the tide in the picture and we don't know Sirdars freeboard but if we assume it's about the same as what... a carribean, (can't be much less or you'd be unable to move around inside), can anyone remember a carribean decks being level with the quayheading recently? If the bridge is splaying out etc then perhaps the quayheading was being forced up to compensate? Isn't it funny that Beccles still manages a respectable rise and fall on the tides yet the Thurne does not when they are both a similar distance from Yarmouth. Last time I mentioned dredging on here I was called disingenuous but maybe a decent flow down the lower bure may help and save so much dredging further up the system? It may even elliviate that waterfall that cascades through Yarmouth twice a day. I can't remember it being that bad in the past...
  2. Well if its a 'B' then it has to be me!!! All my siblings had brand new numbers and were numbered with T. T81, T358, T359, T360, T361. We believe the first five were built together and I followed a year later which is why my number is out of sequence and either a re issue or an odd use up one.
  3. Yep, that all looks perfectly reasonable to me, however, a couple of questions you all may be able to help me with. The 'Ledger of the Deep'. Is there anywhere on the broads where such an item could be kept? When did Neptune develop this thirst for champers? Surely grog would have been the norm? Would it be acceptable to perform our renaming on Salhouse? BA seem to be a bit too uptight and possessive over the salty Breydon these days to allow such a ceremony to take place? How did Griff manage with Broad Ambition? She was up north....
  4. Oh that is definitely one of me in the background! Anyone make the number out? If its B586 I will break out my secret quality street stash..
  5. The best gluten free range in the area is in Roy's food hall in Hoveton. One of ours is not only coeliac but is also vegetarian! Roy's saved the day but its hard work on the broads when special diets are required unless you take lots of food with you. Gluten free beer makes the best batter. If you can get access to Juvela White Mix you will have a batter to die for.
  6. Yes you are right. Originally Falling Leaves and Autumn Leaves before becoming Falling Leaves 1 & 2. Falling Leaves 2 is still about somewhere on the broads but not in good condition
  7. Last year we removed two large bin bags full of mostly live wiring from a boat (and they were proper full bags) and everything still worked!! And this after the electrics had been done 'professionally'. Of course we also had the bsc certificate suggesting it had been checked as well... A very poor experience at a northern based yard a few years ago left us out of pocket and stunned. The chap moored next to us had found the opposite to be the case at the same yard and could not praise them enough. Sometimes it's just luck!
  8. I shall try and join you Liz. Have passed details on to Tom (Starlight) and Jim etc with the Golden Lights as well
  9. Erm... Do we have a forum interpreter?
  10. The secret to boat restoration, car restoration, house restoration etc is having the ability to see the finished product through the bombsite you create on the way. As soon as you lose sight of where you are going the whole project can quickly turn from dream to nightmare. Forums like this one are your best friend. Pictures of your endeavours bring help and advice from people who have been there and done that before you. Even comments 'that looks good' etc will bring renewed enthusiasm. There are many who just can't afford to walk into Norfolk Yacht Agency with an open cheque book but can afford a modest sum a month towards materials etc. You will rarely build a boat for what you can buy a finished one for but that modest sum a month could just get you there in time. Getting people restoring boats can only be a good thing. Skills lost in this generation need renewing and those local companies and chandlers that provide the necessary kit would welcome the business
  11. I recently heard a story about the Sea Smugglers. Hearts/ Wards / Jenner's (he is not sure who owned which at the time) purchased 4 delapidated Majestic Eagle class boats from Leo Robinson's in Oulton Broad. Chaps were duly sent to collect the new acquisitions only to find, on arrival at Robinson's, that all four boats were ashore. Evidentially Robinson's were expecting them but had not launched in case they did not arrive. It turned out it was more down to in case they sank! Anyway, 4 boats were quickly launched and lashed together ready for their trip back to Thorpe. It fell to the lad to man the (manual) bilge pumps on the trip and he had the job of jumping between the fleet and pumping as fast as he could to keep them afloat during the trip. I am told his blisters took weeks to heal...
  12. You ever pull it off young Alan and I will be in your fleet. I'm sure there are one or two on here that wouldn't mind the whiff of galaxy bars
  13. Drool... Have you ever had anyone come up and say 'thats me'!?
  14. Depends on the journey. I have a positively modern 25 year old Fiesta for the motorway work
  15. Yes they did like a Wolseley. Here's one of our daily drives, not that we are stuck in the past or anything. You'll recognise the location I'm sure.
  16. You really not up for a trip down from Troon in a Ford Pop Iain? Come on, I know you're tempted
  17. Lovely film. Makes you realise just how much we have lost, destroyed and thrown away in the name of progress.
  18. Did I mention the white boat? That spent the summer at Hickling because it made it out the dyke and would not carve its way back. Then we sold it...
  19. Two points... Never take anything I say as serious. You are witnessing the ramblings of a buffoon. We have a yacht moored at Catfield. For the last two years we can't get it out the dyke, not enough water. All season it has sat there yet the toll was for the whole system and not for the few hundred yards we can actually use. And before you say we bought the wrong boat its a Gay Lady...
  20. Oh that's just what we need, common sense clouding the issue!
  21. That was my first thought as well
  22. Wow! If they keep buying dredging equipment at some point dredging will have to commence. Did I understand that they were going to use the spoil elsewhere? If we end up in a situation where dredgings are actually worth something I reckon we could have the deepest rivers in the country
  23. yay! Better than my quiz performance earlier tonight! There is someone here who tonight confessed that they attended the very first Glastonbury back in 1971 (there were about 500 people in total !!) and David Bowie was there as an unknown support act. He made a very good impression though and the rest, as they say, is history.
