  1. The crew leaving Goodchilds after dropping off a young family who were stranded at the Barney Arms after their train was cancelled
  2. The cre giving a helpful friendly tow to a small sailing boat (they happen to come across, not called out to)
  3. The crew heading back to Horning after helping a lady with broken ankle
  4. Stayed there earlier this year in a balcony room and was really very nice for the money. There is a very good Thai restaurant straight opposite, and the bar in the hotel is very comfortable. Breakfast is very good, they make to order so nice & fresh, all in all was a very pleasant stay!
  5. You'll struggle not to get 999 signal anywhere in the U.K. Just because you can't get the rough to auntie Mavis on your standard signal doesn't mean you won't get through to 999. (Please don't try, but trust me)
  6. I'd happily do this job but it won't pay the mortgage until I'm a bit older and have down-sized... Having been stuck behind a desk for the last 16 years it's actually quite appealing to me!
  7. Can't speak for others but Hemsby was founded over 40 years ago due to a massive increase in deaths at sea in the local area. Their Broads rescue lifeboat was started on request of HM Coastguard.
  8. BB, BA & NFRS already have their own boats. The real question to ask is if this is a service the emergency services need or want.
  9. Il refrain from commenting on BRW / BSAR... What I will add is that SAR operations on the Norfolk Broads (National Park ) have been relinquished from the Police to HM Coastguard. HMCG are highly trained, very well equipped and have vast knowledge of the Broads. They also have at their disposal the 3 emergency services, SAR helicopters and of course declared lifeboats (2 of which cover the Broads). Declared lifeboats (both RNLI and independents) are are audited by HMCG - everything from training schedules & qualifications to maintenance, suitability of equipment, and from risk assessments to SOPs. Then there's the rescue boat code - a 100+ page document covering the requirements of a rescue boat & its crew... Operating a lifeboat takes literally thousands of man hours & costs thousands of every year (not including the brownie points you have to earn from the wife!).
  10. Yeah they always put us ugly ones out of sight in the pooy lit tents luckily for us that means testing the beer when we change the barrels over It was a great day, we were out on a call-out until 2am both Saturday and sunday morning, not to mention 2 call-outs during the day on Friday, so the crew was already nackered before we even started! Despite that we made about 30% more than we ever have during the Herring Festival thanks to the public (and in part the beautiful weather we had yesterday!!)
  11. After 7 hours of standing at the bar (serving, not drinking unfortunately) I can safely say my feet are ruined
  12. I have an 11 week old baby boy, everyone keeps telling me how quickly the time goes, but nothing makes time stand still like being left in charge of the ticking time bomb that is a hungry baby!!
  13. Some were taken off to safety as they were either fairly old or very young.
  14. Hope you got yourself checked out after, secondary drowning is no joke!! Have to agree about getting out of the water without help - even with proper gear on it's a struggle but with wet clothes dragging you back it must be exhausting!!
  15. They're not employed for the BBC, he seems not on the list. Any they were worth it, it was the most popular TV series on the planet sold globally...
  16. It isn't also worth noting that being paid £2million per year will mean he pays near as makes no difference £1million in tax per year, which is more than most of us pay in our lifetime. He pays it a year. And due to his popularity, the revenue gained from selling advertising space on his very popular show would easily see to the other million.
  17. If he didn't get the ratings he wouldn't be rewarded quite so highly. You may not like him but clearly millions do...
  18. How come a boat owner & forum user gets caught with firearms & wasting police time (among other things) and it gets swept under the carpet but a bloke on his stag party gets his bum out & everyone loses their minds?!
  19. The day centre parks puts itself into the Pontins/Butlins price bracket is the say I stop going there - they're usually fully booked so no need for change!
  20. I might actually take you up on that, be a good excuse to take the littlun out for a drive and start getting him used to boats!!
  21. And Horning Yacht Club / The Swan make us bacon sarnies when they're open Wroxham yacht club are a bit tight on that front!
  22. It's quicker for us to launch at Horning (yacht club) than to drive the extra 10/15 minutes to Wroxham. Granted we spend longer in the water but this is minimal and a lot less time that we would lose in the vehicle heading to Wroxham...
