  1. This is Dave. He is called Dave because my wife was silly enough to let me name a cat
  2. As a project manager within manufacturing I found myself shouting at the TV on numerous occasions. They should use at least some people with real life experience...
  3. You should try some apple-jack warmed up in the microwave for 20 seconds... around this time my favourite is always warm mulled cider, or if that is not available then mulled wine with a drop of brandy!! didnt make any sloe gin this year but that's also a Christmas favourite of mine with some cheese & crackers.
  4. Reading through earlier comments about this year being a boring procession – I’m not sure what season you watched but that just sounds like regurgitated garbage to me. SOME races will always be boring but then not every race will ever be an edge of your seat nail-biting 120 minutes of pure adrenalin… I would say that the majority of this year was great viewing, I have always been a Hamilton fan and whilst I don’t want to sound sour, it was obvious that Rosberg was very lucky to win this year, I would say he was even luckier than Jenson in 2009… As for there being no characters in the sport any more – have you not seen the Vettel interviews this year? The guy is hilarious – as is Dan Ric & Vestappen. No, the sport is not as dangerous as it was back in the 80’s/90’s and yes your favourite drivers are now all retired but technology moves on, drivers move on, and if you can’t accept that then you should probably change your sport… Golf seems to stay fairly fixed with the technology – maybe you’d be better watching golf?
  5. Afternoon all, could do with some help. I'm attempting to pull my fat ass round Southwold tomorrow to help raise some money towards a new inshore lifeboat. Any support would be massively appreciated https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/HemsbyLifeboat
  6. Can see both sides of this. Water safety equipment suggests that swimming is allowed so should Never have been out there in the first place. But then if it was my family swimming there against the rules I would want safety equipment... of the 300-odd people who died in the water last year, over half never intended ever getting wet.
  7. If you could make it at a sociable time of day that'd be great
  8. I have never seen as many rainbows in one weekend, the weather was so changeable, I grew fond of the sound of rain on the roof - rather comforting! Last pictures of our break attached, now at home (a mere 20 minutes from the boat yard). We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and are already planning a trip next year
  9. It was great travelling early - was like we had our own river! Just a few more snaps from today at St Bennets, found a wild mooring tonight just past barton Turf, great experience! Will be sad to hand our trusty vessel back over tomorrow
  10. I did indeed go for the burger which (coupled with a couple of beers) quickly induced a food coma... Ate at the Stokesby Ferry last night which I can highly recommend (although I wouldn't recommend trying all of the Adnams spirits like I did in one sitting, was a little grizzly this morning)
  11. Early start at Stokesby this morning, starting to understand this boating lark...
  12. First attempt at stern-on mooring at Salhouse & didn't sink it!
  13. Made it to Horning safe & sound, boat is perfect for what we need! Also Gus at the New Inn is a star!
  14. Drank too much of that as a teen - don't think I could stomach it any more
  15. I did try something new this year - I left the yeast in a jug of the apple juice for 12 hours to get it going before adding it to the rest of the juice in the demijohn. Read it was the right thing to do on the internet so presumed it must be true! Will update later after sugar has been added!!
  16. I share this sentiment. The guys in blue overalls are all coastguard volunteers; plumbers, receptionists, builders, car salesmen... it's not their day job and incidents like this stay with you.
  17. You don't HAVE to have one but it makes the process a whole lot easier and they are only a quid from wilkinsons!!
  18. I didn't sterilise the juice, but I core my apples, then quatre them, cut out the bad bits then run through a sterilised juicer so I'm fairly happy it's not gone bad. Gave it a smell last, smells exactly the same as my brew last year, not like vinegar at all so don't think it's gone bad. i think I will give it 200g of brewing sugar tonight and see where it goes, hope that there was just a lack of sugar in the apples (although they tasted fine, golden delicious!!)
  19. No need to apologise, happy for any experience! I will wait to see if anyone has any ideas if not I will try adding some brewing sugar...
  20. No, I usually add that when bottling to restart fermentation and add bubbles?
  21. Hi all!! Picked my apples as usual 2 weeks ago, juiced as usual and poured into demijohn. Added universal wine yeast (which I have read lots of places is perfectly OK). It bubbled away like a trooper creating plenty of gas for the first 3 days but has been dead as a dodo ever since... Is this normal or should I still be getting bubbles? From memory it carried on creating has for a whole lot longer last year? is there anyway of saving this year's harvest? Ang help much appreciated!!
  22. Just wondered - can you pre-book and pre-pay moorings? Looking at horning in particular but also in general, is this something that is usually offered or just first come first served?
  23. Many thanks - I think the only bridge we will be going under is Ludham, and possibly Acle! Good news on the boat, I picked it as there are 2 bedrooms and 2 toilets which seemed handy - and it has a nice seating area at the bow for cheese on biscuits and red wine!! They have already threatened to turn up for tea and bacon rolls one the Sunday morning... I will be trying my hardest to avoid them for the rest of the time!!
